Thery're gonna have to work harder next season!
According to the Wall Street Journal, the home of Gossip Girl, the CW network is tanking.
The CBS/Time Warner co-venture lost 28% of its target audience of 18 to 34 year olds so far this season.
And, its ratings during this month's "sweeps" period — the all-important measure upon which future advertising rates are set — are down about 22%.
According to an insider, if things don't turn around dramatically one of the big partners is going to walk away.
The WSJ also points out that part of CW's problem is that the demo its targeting spends a lot of its leisure time on the internet. Good for us!
And, the Writer's Strike probably hastened the departure of the demo from traditional TV to the net.
Any of you youngins have advice for the suits?

What are you talking about? Gossip Girl is frickin' AWESOME. If CW offered it online then people wouldn't be watching it from all sorts of sites and the rating wouldn't be as bad as it looks like.
Besides, how accurate are your ratings anyway? I mean, it seems like a lot of people really love the show. It's just that they watch it online because it is more expedient for them.
The CW should pick-up MOONLIGHT! They'd have 8 MILLION built-in viewers. But I don't want them to pick-it-up if the whole network will just collapse.
What they should do is stream it on the net with a few "ad breaks" in between but also count the ratings including the net. Of course, shows fail when ratings are based on television alone.

When great shows — funny, dramatic, romantic — start getting cut, you have to wonder if they have any consideration for their fans. Gossip Girl is great, I hope it sticks around. Moonlight was fantastic but they've gone ahead and canceled that. Very sad for the fans.
let us watch the episodes online! and find a way to get ratings that way! I work monday nights and always look forward to watching it online.. BUT now you CANT!
Well considering last year they ended the two biggest scripted hits they ever had (gilmore girls and 7th heaven), im not at all surprised their viewing is down so much. I mean, they also ditched Veronica Mars which also had a loyal following. They lost a lot of fans last year….
cw went to satallite and does not play on cable anymore so many of us watch it on the internet duh.
CBS has very poor decision making skills.
Is this CBS asking for advice or you? Because I don't think CBS listens to their viewers. They look at numbers and that is it.
If you base your decision making skills on numbers you're bound to make mistakes.
Here is some advice…STOP GETTING RID OF THE GOOD SHOWS!!! Cancelling all of the greats has now left them crippled and it's their own ignorance. Develop a good series and cast good actors, not ones that are only good for face time. And no more reality series people, how about some ORIGINALITY - you writers want more money and you give us shit…sad, truly.

NOOO i love that show! just keep in mind that a lot of people (unlike me) don't watch the show when they come on on monday nights, and instead download of the internet.
I am so mad that CBS has cancelled MOONLIGHT! and so are alot of fans of the show. I hear that CW is considering picking up the show. They should defiantly, and they would see what a great decision they made! MOONLIGHT ALL THE WAY!!!

hi…i dont think you people get that its NOT gossip girl thats tanking, its the network THE CW so that means ALL of the shows aren't doing hot.
i think we need to update our view of things don't just count the people who are watching on tv count people who watch online even who tivo it. gossip girl got there 2nd season purely by iturnes sales of the show and the massive amount of people who would watch on the cw website
I don't think they should really "count" this season. The strike screwed everything up and all the newer shows on every network were kinda screwed by it. Gossip Girl is a great (NON-REALITY!) show, our demographic just doesn't have the attention span to withstand strikes. Give it another go, things will look different in a year. But…yeah, lose Georgina…and Vanessa too.

If the CW is failing… why not pick up the GOLD that is "moonlight"??
Bring back Charmed!! But not where it ended, but 25 years into the future where Piper's, Phoebe's, and Paige's kids are the ones doing the ass-kicking now. And the story would center around Wyatt and Chris, starring Wes Ramsey and Drew Fuller. That would be my dream come true!
Who in the world can relate to the characters on the show. OMFG — If exaggerating a fantasy is all you got then don't be surprise that the air in that balloon is already going.

when they took the episodes off their website i stopped watching because i couldnt catch up… same with top model. they lost a lot of people by not putting the episodes online this season.

This is redic! GG is a great show! The first couple episodes sucked though– they were sooo boring. They need more sex+ excitement.. We shouldn't have been forced to wait for the inale to finally see something bad happen between S & Dan ?!

Yes, here's some advice: Lay off the teen drama and start paying some attention to the sci-fi/paranormal series (a.k.a Smallville and Supernatural); those that do build strong fan bases. Oh well, but what do I care? The CW is crap anyways! I give it a year or two before it disappears.
I used to watch it but now it only plays on CW and i dont have CW (i live in canada… ) before it played on CTV soo i could watch it… it sucks

Gossip girl is trying WAY to hard. With this whole "Serena and Georgina" shit is already getting tired. And her whole murder/overdose shit is soo The OC. They need to stop trying to make it soo dramatic and make it more like the original Gossip Girl. And WTF is up with Jennys Hair? She looks nothing like the original characters.

uh, duh. Make a really, really good episode; you know this all happened because of the writers strike. That caused the major boredom we have faced from watching the same episodes over and over again, so now we found BETTER stuff to do; even though there are new episodes now. You know what? Make something scary or REALLY suspenseful happen. That would be so cool!
I think the ratings have been hurt after the strike. All shows ratings have been hurt after that since while the shows were gone people had to find new things to and then didn't realize the shows had come back. I think they should have kept the time they were on before and then they shouldn't have taken it offline. I think it should be online and those ratings would save the show. Many people are watching it online now and that is because of all the things they found to do while the shows were not on due to the strike. With the way people live now and the world we live in now it would make more since to keep it on tv but also put it online with ad breaks so then people with busy lives can still watch their favorite shows. Make the online have the ratings as well. This just seems to make sense to everyone other then the suits.
Move it back to wednesdays…the 18-34 crowd is watching bones/house at that time

CBS dropped this gem, and I think the CW would be SUPER wise to pick it up.
Pick up a show with a built-in audience, insert commercials for their other shows, and voila! New viewers!

i think georgina is a major problem for the show. first off i don't like michelle trachtenberg to begin with as a villain. shes an ice princess to me and she is horrible at acting bad. i dont like what she's doing to serena either. things were just better without the character georgina.
I love Gossip Girl and every time there is omething up about it doing made makes me mad. GG is a fantastic show and I watch it every time it is on and havent missed an episode!
i love gossip girl. the network needs to realize that lots of times a group will get together and watch it. that's what we college kids do over here!

Online episodes. Their biggest mistake was to pull them. Our generation wants to watch TV when it's convenient for us.
My advice for the CW Network is to pick up Moonlight. I mean just think 8 million loyal fans would really be a plus. It would be CW's highest rated show, an if paired up with Supernatural imagine how many more fans both shows could get, come CW pick up Moonlight.
the problem with gossip girl is not that their once loyal viewers lost interest in the show, but that the script has gone from '0.C' to cheap soap opera. what was once a good show with up-and-coming actors, great new music, lots of style, and most of all a succesful teen-drama novel which has been extremly succesful with tween and teens, is now a desperate cry for ratings. basically it lost all of its heart and passion, and became narrow-minded
They should move it back to Thursdays, or Wednesdays -any day, just NOT Monday. Monday, everyone is busy at 8/7c pm. Or at least, everyone I know. Thus, we have to search online for the latest episodes.
I watch Supernatural, Reaper (and under duress) Smallville which has jumped the the shark. All else suxs big burritos on that network.
PUT IT BACK ON THE FRIGGIN CTV AND THEN PEOPLE IN CANADA WILL WATCH IT.

ANy true gossip girl fan knows its because the show doesnt even remotely resemble the books. The author practically handed the show success on a bestselling silver platter and the producers and writers totally transformed her books. All the characters and plots are complelety different than the books. I refuse to watch the show.

My advice is for them to forget about those silly shows and get back to true reality or a little fantasy…I think they should take Moonlight under their wing now that CBS has put a stake in it…the most idiot move they could ever make…very disappointed but i only hope that another network will be smart enough to take Moonlight because i will definatly promise you that 8 million people will follow no questions asked… WE are a fan base with alot of heart and we will do what ever it takes to get our Moonlight back.
The writers strike has screwed everything up! Moonlight was the best show on CBS and then they cancel it. CW would be wise to pick it up. I watch Smallville and Supernatural which are great shows. Add the next greatest show to the CW and it will make it even better! and start counting the online votes, it would help so much. So CW, PICK UP MOONLIGHT!!!
If anything, a network needs to pick up Moonlight. Over eight million fans who actually stayed loyal through the writers strike even though we didn't even know if our program would still be there when it was all over. When this gets picked up, the fans WILL follow. Can anyone say "Ka-ching!" for whoever picks it up?

Gossip Girl is a horrible, horrible show. it's only vaguely interesting as of late because of all the crazy shit that has been happening. but that won't hold up because overall the characters are boring as hell. Serena is a shitty actress and insanely boring, dan is becoming a dipshit, and jenny is a stupid ho. blair and chuck are the only interesting characters, but they're only side stories. CWTV SUCKS!!! GG, SUPERNATURAL, and whatever else shows SUCK HAIRY BALLS. bring back shows like dawson's creek, buffy, smallville, roswell, felicity, and gilmore girls back, and you'll get your ratings. some originality PLEASE

The issue is moving it to Mondays(Bad days for me to remember to watch). Wednesday I am always looking for something to watch. I have not watched it since it moved to Mondays. And the writer strike killed it, I do not watch the CW, there is nothing good on the CW anymore so I didn't even know when the show resumed and had new episodes. I do like it, but I never knew when it started up again.

I love GG, my friend and I get together every week and watch it. I do think it's been a little slow the last 2 episodes. Too much drama build up with no results…Other then that, love the show, big fan…

The CW is stupid for not putting its shows online. College students don't watch real tv anymore. The CW could make so much money off of online ads. They stopped putting up full episodes and so they lose their ratings to youtube.
CW5 should move Gossip Girls to another night…instead of mondays.
Maybe that is why they should take on the tv show Moonlight seeing as how they have over 8 million viewers. You add Moonlight you add a lot more viewers who will more then likely watch the show before Moonlight and after it.

put the shows on the internet and keep track of the viewers. I watch my shows online while at work or at school. Even tho I have DVR, this works better for my schedule and accessibility.

Also, put the episodes online, so you at least get streaming revenue! I can't watch GG on TV live, because you put it when Bones airs!
Re: Padi – Clearly you don't know what you're talking about–I myself, and most Moonlight fans I know, are ALL way younger than 45, and are very much employed, and in a decent income bracket (the kind advertiasers like!)….it's also a great show, and has 7 MILLION viewers–can you name a CW show with that big of an audience? Nooooo–it would be CW's salvation!

Advertising…. marketing.. etc. I use to be obsessed with GG, along with ALL my girlfriends. Then they took it off the Canadian network it was on.. and now I can hardly remember to watch it. AND I can only watch it online via downloads. It sucks!!

Can't believe they canned 'Moonlight' based on US TV ratings only!!! I've been watching on You Tube for half the series since it was dropped by Channel 9 in Australia. It has a huge following here and in the UK as well. Whoever makes these decisions based on actual bums on seats in front of a TV on Friday nights is TOTALLY out of touch with the young viewing public! Down the tubes you go, big networks……………
they need to show it on Wednesday, monday is such a hard day to watch a tv show…put it back on the other day and i guarantee theyll get a million more high school students watching.
