I've been to a taping of an Oprah show…they come out before the show starts and whip the audience up into a frenzy. They tell you to be over-the-top, that that's the only way you will get on camera. They spend about an hour before the show getting the audience to act excited.
I was lucky enough to be in the audience last year, and yes there was to mych screaming. But you get caught up in the moment,its like winning the lotto. She can tell you she is giving you the clap and you don't care because you got ticket to Oprahs favorites epsiode. It was great!!!
