actually…not career defining at all. Britney did the strip thing before during her performance of "can't get no satisfaction/oops i did it again" AND did the rain thing on her HBO concert special…and Kelly clarkson rocked out the rain while sounding amazing during a music awards special…nothing great about this performance….a little…underwhelming
There is something wonderful with watching an 18 year old getting watered down. Ahhhh…..all is good with the world.

Umm… not really exciting at all. That song kinda reminds me of Avril's song… I have no idea what it's called but everyone knows which awful song I'm referring to.
i loved it, i think she's gorgeous, and real. and her voice is raw and not the best, but that's what makes it sound good, because she's not amazing. it makes her more real. you can tell the rain at the end was like, how she felt when she was writing the song. i was like yes girl (y) even though i don't say that lol.
How did she bring it..or..WHEN did she bring it? I kept waiting for something great to happen, like you know..her being IN TUNE..yuck.
She looked like she was trying to rock out. but it just ended up being really awkward.
If this is a "career-defining performance", maybe that explains why the music industry is in the shitter..this is really mediocre.

Were you being sarcastic? I honestly can't tell, but I hope you were. That sounded absolutely terrible. I actually thought she sounded good on her tracks, but wow, she cannot sing live, which is a definite indication of total lack of talent.
I have no idea who that chic is, and I hate country music, but there isn't a person over 15 who can watch that and not identify with her. It was oustanding for anyone, much better than all u pissy haters could do.

A lot of singers dont sing well live & that's why they should be called performers or entertainers instead. Producers smooth out audible flaws, that is why some of your favorite singers sound great on C.D. not so much in person-SURPRISE!! Also, heavy dancing or movement makes it hard to stay in pitch.
I think Taylor's performace was pretty good. She wasnt too off pitch & really connected with the song.

That performance was reminiscent of Kelly Clarkson at 2005's MTV Video Awards.

Ok, not only can she not sing, but she can't dance either. She wasn't even doing any complicated moves; you can just tell she has no rhythm. And I happen to like country music. She just didn't do it for me.

OK, the performance was ok only because you were distracted by the hard hitting bass and flashing lites. Her attempt at moving her body was horrible and even more so under the water.NEXT!!!!

DAMN! I dislike country music and didn't watch the show, but DAMN. That was an amazing musical performance - she's really only 18? She has a great voice. Too bad she's a country singer. She'll be crossing over soon I hope. Is every country song about cheating?

The concept, was great…but I don't know if it was the sound or what, but she sounded off key most of it. Just not a very powerful voice. She looks like someone plucked her out of 9th grade English class and put her on stage.

Not bad for an 18 year old … but not that good for a professional singer (except if we count other talentless singers like madonna, britney and so on …), a lot of inconsistencies in the voice, pitchwhise, breathingwhise … it was all a bit messy everywere, but i guess that is a carreer-defining perezformance for someone who thinks madonna is great. She has great potential though, in 5-8 years if she doesnt get cocky and keeps learning how to sing she might become great.

Let me preface with… I KNOW SHE IS 18!! I live in Nashville and I see the struggles of very TALENTED people trying to make it in the biz. How did this girl get a record deal? I know she writes her own songs, but the lyrics completely lack depth. Her voice is not strong. She's not even that pretty… though I think that is why she is ultimately performing on the CMAs. Execs were trying to find the country-music version of Britney. And doesn't that song sound like a total rip off of YOU'VE HAD A BAD DAY!

She seems to have written/cowritten alot of her own material , which I think is impressive, especially now when most younger singers couldn't write a song if their life depended on it.. But this perfomance was just bad. The hoodie made no sence . Her voice was inconsistant and off pitch through most of the song. Her voice was trying to be strong and demanding but she just couldn't "bring it" as you say. Over all O.K. but far from best of the night.

I guess most of you don't know that was her first big deal performance in front of hundreds of country greats. She's 18, she knew she was about to get soaked, of course she wasn't going to sound fine-tuned, she was nervous. She did a great job! I love her music and I've never liked country.
