This performance was amazing. Taylor Swift is eighteen years old, and is already stepping it up and bringing to the next level. She's only been 'in the business' for a year or so too.

The mic is not hooked up the electricity. It's battery operated (hence there being no power cord to the mic)

I'm usually impressed with Taylor Swift. This song was a little too Avrilesqe though, I mean the lyrics are like the discarded on from Avril's first album. Also did anyone else think Taylor might have enrolled in the Ashlee Simpson school of dance? Over all though the theatrics were great!
Re: Common Sense – Wow, I have to agree with you 100% I saw it after your comment and you can hear the difference. I never thought she had such an incredible voice, she's a girl who can get by but her lyrics are quite typical and her voice is average.

I thought she was horrible. I mean, you hate Joss Stone, but at least she doesn't sound like a warbling, off key Dixie Chick when she sings. That was truly terrible. I think it's funny that the new standard for pop singers is that they can actually do a live performance, instead of lip synching. Sorry Perez, I know you hate her, but Avril Lavigne (who I personally hate) is at least talented. Google her acapella version of "I'm with You" on SNL sometime.
Not the biggest country music fan, but, she DID bring it…I liked the look on her face afterward, like, "I did it!"…such a sweetheart.

Actually she sounded terrible and even had a band playing with her. Carrie Underwood sang just with Brad Paisley and his guitar and sounded absolutely great. She did an amazing job singing Make the World go away and that is why she is the ACM female artist.
Her performance was blah - interesting….but carrie underwood can wipe the floor with her.

Let's see. She just turned 18. She's had over 4 #1 hit songs. She made Maxim "Hot" 100. She's won multiple awards. She writes all her own music. She's a very talented young woman. Sounds like a few people are jealous. When her enemies curse her, she will be blessed even more.

I think a lot of people didn't know you were being sarcastic, Perez. That was like listening to a cat stuck in a blender. She would not have made it to the top ten in American Idol. It's like Jessica Simpson or Britney– only so much shelf life for a singer to get by on looks alone. Get those endorsements while you can, Taylor! Before your ass spreads out, before the whore-virgin routine gets old, before everyone discovers that, like Avril, you don't REALLY write your own songs. It drives me insane that people like this get air time! Nice enough girl singer for a state fair, but uber-talented? N'uh unh!

Her songs are lame. Dude, seriously, sit down and listen to Alicia Keys, Faith Hill, Mariah Carey (pre-glitter), hell lets throw some guys in, Fall Out Boy, now thats an awesome band who can sing AND entertain. There are plenty of musicians out there you can listen to and realize what a strong voice and awesome lyrics can do without needing to rip your clothes off to showcase.

I'm a big country music fan……but I think EVERYONE was off key last night!!! I ended up turning it off and watching the season finale of Desperate HouseBitches!!! Taylor seems to be a sweet girl….but that was sooo lame!! Another kid who makes it and then wants to up her game into "adult" mode. Doesn't work for her or any of them!!!

I thought she did amazing. I didn't really like country until she came along. She is 18, none of you were doing this at 18, quit hating and give the girl a round of applause!! She really wanted it, she had the voice and when she realized that wasn't enough, she taught herself how to play guitar and write songs, she wanted it and i couldn't think of anyone more deserving…

The water thing is so old….. remember Kelly Clarkson rocked out on MTV Awards under the water. And Taylor didn't sound that great. The ripping off the clothes bit was the coolest part.
She just copied Kelly Clarkson's Grammy winning performance at the 2005 MTV VMA's… Kelly totally rocked it… this was just LAME… although I love Taylor Swift, just not copy cat Taylor Swift.

When you know how the song on the album sounds, you can tell right away that she was WAAAAAYYY off key at the beginning; however, at the end she belted and it sounded good.
She does that a lot, but you have to hand it to an 18 year old for performing in front of an audience that big without totally cracking her voice (even though sometimes it did….) BUT I do love Taylor Swift but she doesnt sound the greatest live!
