Not content with ruling the music scene (naturally), Rihanna is set to star in her first big screen debut!
It is being reported that the Umbrella chanteuse has been cast as Carol in the film adaptation of Iceberg Slim's book Mama Black Widow.
According to it's online description, the movie synopsis is as follows:
"Mama Black Widow is the portrait of a black family's migration from the southern Mississippi fields of the segregated south to the ghettoized black underworld of Chicago during the 1930's. The story follows Otis Tilson's struggle to keep his family together as they navigate through a world of alcoholism, pimping, sexual deviation and racial degradation. Told in the gut level language of the original novel by Iceberg Slim, the family's journey is a harsh testament of lives lived on the margins of a racist and predatory world."
Also joining RiRi in the cast is Anthony Anderson, Kerry Washington, and Macy Gray. Yes, Macy Gray. We don't know why either.
Let's hope this doesn't bomb for Rihanna's sake. If it does, no one's gonna want to hire her for another film again!

Mama Black Widow is one of Iceberg Slim's best books. I would suggest you read it. I dont know which character Rihanna would play but I hope its one of the twins.

I will see this movie, I like the premise of it, sounds very intriguing. To those (black and white) who say they've been victims of racism… I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm black, and my dream is that I can still live to see the day that we're all better than that. Remember, there are good and bad people of EVERY race - racism is ridiculous!
Re: M – no it defintely is BLACKS making crazy at the movies……it happens to me too….I don't know why but they just let their freaks out at the movies…they prob feel cmfortable it being dark and all….it's a big prob for people in my state..i too, don't go to movies anymore because it can be scary..u dont need to get shot watching iron freaking man….they aren't even mad at people they just start commenting and talking really loudly to each other..and then they all get riled up and chaos ensues…sorry if it's ur peole, but doesnt mean ur bad like that too…..let criticism fall where it may, it's going to land on the right people, u don't have to shelter everyone because it's ur same race…white people know this……
It sounded great until I read Macy Gray was in it. I think that alone will kill it. I'll be enjoying it up until her character's introduction more than likely. I have big doubts about her acting ability or her ability to not annoy me to death.

If this is supposed to be about the south and stuff, won't her island accent get in the way? I know there are speech coaches but it would be a less expensive to just hire someone else. Plus I always imagined Rihanna in a Matrix like movie for some reason…must be the stage outfits
She needs to learn different ways of speaking if she is going to play a character like that. She's hot though I'll go see it.
