Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor.
The 76-year-old was rushed to the hospital this past weekend with what family members thought was a stroke but ended up being a seizure caused by the malignant growth in his brain.
Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year — and the most common type among adults. It's a starting diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.
Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types — such as glioblastomas — or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.
So sad.
Our thoughts and positive energy go out to the Senator and his family.

Republican or Democrat this goes well past party affiliation and to human tragedy. Senator Kennedy has dealt with so much tragedy in his life however he has always kept his chin up and kept fighting and I am sure he will do no less in this case. My thoughts go out to his family as well as himself. Keep the faith Senator
It would be really sad if he was 36, but he's 76… he's pretty old. A lot of people don't even live to be 76.

I have a 37 year old girl friend with a new baby who just got diagnosed with this fatal brain tumor. Ted was lucky not to die of pancreatitis, liver cancer, cirrhosis, emphysema or any of the other diseases he has tried to get with his lifestyle. He is 76 not 40. He's lived a long life, and as it goes, it's a pretty quick trip from here. I'd like to have sympathy for him, but he isn't exempt from what happens to human beings. There is nothing special about Ted Kennedy. Just because he has sat in congress giving away other people's money doesn't make him worth a crap. Karma is indeed a bitch.

to #65. I have family and friends who have died of, or are fighting, cancer. It's very tragic and sad. Yes, Ted Kennedy is dying. We all are. Death is not an "if" for all of us, it's a "when". He's lived a long life filled with very questionable personal decisions, especially when it comes to treating women with respect and dignity. I'm sorry for his family as they are going to have a lot to deal with. I'm sorry so many of his family members died before their time. But Ted got away with a lot in life.

He was expelled from harvard for CHEATING - spent his military service in PARIS- and only served a suspended sentence for killing Mary Jo. How the hell he got a political career at ALL was a miracle. I feel so sorry for Mr. Kennedy. This family has been to hell and back. I have met his family a couple of times in Cape Cod and they are a proud and diligent family. But bad luck is a family friend to them. Every one of them has either something wrong with them or their dead. My heart goes out to Senator Kennedy and his family.

Re: Sam – Sam, if you read your history correctly, Kennedy was AGAINST putting American troops over there. His reasons for increasing US presence there was more complicated than you are letting on. Kennedy had the Cold War to deal with and Vietnam was in the middle of the situation. This is documented.
Don't put Vietnam squarely on Kennedy's shoulders. While he had a part in it, he also wanted our guys OUT after South Vietnam became overrun with political instability. As a matter of fact, had he lived, he would most likely have continued working to get Americans out of there.

this is so sad my mothers mother in law (a remarriage) anyway she was diagnosed wtih a cancerous brain tumor in the summer of 2006. she had surgery but it came back. She died in Oct 07. she was only like 57. it just doesnt make sense how some really good people have all these terrible things happen to them. god bless.

I drove over the infamous bridge (replaced many years ago actually) at Chappaquidick last year to visit a nature reserve. All the guides refer to the site as the "Kennedy Car Wash". I recommend that he be "buried at sea" at that exact location.

ted kennedy is a really nice guy who made who made a few bad decisions - if you grew up like he did, you might make them too. he had two brothers and a sister die by the time he was 20. it doesn't matter what he did, he apoligized for his mistakes. i have watched a very young family member die from brain cancer, and it is something NO ONE deserves. and everyone reading from the middle class - he has helped you out, whether you believe it or not.
Only someone who is completely ignorant would be sad about this. He is an adulterous alcoholic murderer!!! Perez, get a clue. Just because he's got a D after his name doesn't mean he's a good person.
Teddy Kennedy is a saint — think about it: Here's a rich guy who gives up his privacy and chance to be even richer for public service, has fought all of his adult life for the average slob, has introduced the best legisaltion this country has seen, and has stuck his neck out to protect our freedoms (check out his voting record if you don't believe me. I'd say he has done his penance…not that any of us actually knows his sins.

Then he told his friends what had happened. He was very sad because he could be fired from the senate and go to jail. His friends told him not to be sad. They would make this bad thing go away.
Two days later Teddy called the police and told them of the bad thing he had done. They told him not to worry. They would make this bad thing go away just like they had done for his dad.. They were afraid of Teddy. He could get them fired and put them in jail because he was very rich and powerful.
