On Sunday night, Kenny Chesney criticized the American Country Music Awards (despite his win) for allowing fans to vote for the Entertainer of the Year award.
Chesney told reporters backstage, "I don't think it's right that they pick the one award that means the most, that all the artists sacrifice the most for."
According to reports, Chesney made clear Sunday night that his criticism was an industry complaint about the process for one award — not a dig at his fans or at the awards show overall.
It was the first time in the show's 43 years that the top prize was decided by a fan vote.
BUT, it's been revealed that Chesney played along with the industry and prodded his fans to pick him for the win!!!
Chesney's MySpace page still carried a large banner Monday urging fans to "bring it home for KC," with links to the academy's online page and messages from fans lower on the page.

Poor little Kenny is just sad he can't be himself and bring his boyfriends to awards shows. He has to have something to complain about. He's the rudest, most self-absorbed person I've ever had the displeasure of working with.

you know what perez, i love you …but this is not a fair post….i'm a huge country music fan and i know exactly what is going on…to an outsider of the genre it would seem like that….but there are other awards ceremonies throughout the year that are voted on by the fans…. this is the one awards ceremony that has the academy vote…and like kenny said, fans voting takes away the integrety of the award

I am a member of Kenny's fan club, Keith Urban's, and Rascal Flatt's fan club, and Kenny was THE ONLY ONE I did not get an email from telling me to vote!
His fan club members were behind the campaign because they know he deserved it.
I agree with him 100 percent! You can't change how they award Entertainer of the Year 43 years into the history of the most important award in country music! Garth Brooks won 5 times, none of which were voted by fans.

Shamefully, yes. The fans are what got you there in the first place. Someone has to buy your records in order for you to make better ones (best producers, etc).

If he's one then I'm one too, cuz I pushed for people to vote for him and I didn't believe in the fan voting for it either. If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT. Let us vote on smaller, lesser awards, not the one that means EVERYTHING.
