This Is F'ed Up!

wsucks.jpg

Yet ANOTHER sign that our economy is in the crapper!

American Airlines announced on Wednesday that they'll start charging $15 for the first checked bag, cut domestic flights and lay off workers as it grapples with record-high fuel prices.

SUCKS that more people are going to lose work!

And, it SUCKS that we have to pay to check baggage in. Just gives us that much more incentive to only take carry-on, but now everyone's gonna start doing that too!

The passenger cabin will be even more sucky on American than it already is.

EVERYONE will probably max out the 2 carry-on policy. Oh, and bet u can't wait to deal with overworked, under-resourced airline staff.

Awesome!

Last month, American announced it would join other carriers in charging $25 for second bags checked for some passengers, but it wasn't immediately clear how Wednesday's announcement would affect that, according to the source.

Thanks for everything, George Bush.

We haven't built a refinery in over twenty years. We aren't allowed to drill in a wilderness. We are tying our own hands rather than providing ourselves with our own oil until technology (electric cars) catch up. Um, check your facts. GW wants to drill, want to refine, in the good ol USA!

why do so many people still support Bush. I guess they enjoy the high body count, poor economy, and overall shitty situation that we have been in while bush has been in office. Republicans are not very smart, just easily brainwashed.

    Perez,
I usually enjoy checking out your site for all the celebrity gossip. I do have to say that you blaming George Bush for American Airlines financial issues is really very ignorant. It is clear to me how much you hate George Bush, but to blame him for every single thing is idiotic. You are much better when you are poking fun at celebrities and not giving ridiculous political commentary. Stick to the funny stuff okay…George Bush is not the devil you make him out to be!

IF THE SUN DON'T RISE TOMORROW i GUESS "THAT WILL BE GW'S FAULT TOO.” Maybe if the wackos would let us drill for our oil (and who might that be?) it just could matter in so many ways. But isn't it conveinent to blame Bush for everything. May I ask..how many times have we been attacked since 9/11? Oh yeah …0 times. Over your heads I guess…

Worst president ever . . . SOOOO un b e l i e v a b l y bad. Our industries suck royal ass. Maybe, just maybe if they made the airline better and more pleasant and comfortable to fly it wouldn't be going down the tubes. I only fly on Jetblue or Virgin. The others are unbearable (though I have never tried southwest).

He was not elected the first time or re-elected the second time he came into office. He was appointed President by his father's friends on the Supreme Court after stealing the votes from Senior Citizens in Florida. The second time Carl Rove succeeded in scaring the electorate into voting for Bush by getting them grossed out on boys kissing. I blame the dumb Southerners

    311

it's a capitalist economy. it's not bush's fault that the airlines make these changes.
your intelligence is so apparent like the other morons who blame Bush for everything. I have a headache. Must be Bush's fault. Can't wait until Obama is in and things still suck. Who will you blame then? Idiot.

  12. mayumi says – reply to this

    312

Perez, you are being stupid. Is this a Rovian trick to desensitize the public to Bush's incompetence so that when real shit happens the public won't care? 'Cause if so, you might as well blame him for your weight issues too. Why stop with the airline industry when you can go further and blame Bush's failed economic policies for your obesity. Perhaps skyrocketing prices of organic celery has forced you to over eat on donuts and potato chips.

  13. stephanie says – reply to this

    313

SORRY but u cant blame bush for everything…its called checks and balances for a reason! add the value of the dollar declining, india and china's demand for oil on the rise and $ going to the war and then make an EDUCATED guess as to why oil prices are rising instead of blaming bush…Thank you…and keep ur political statements to urself unless you can back them up…thanks again!

  14. OPEC Price Fixing says – reply to this

    314

The severe decline in America’s economy began after the Democrats took control of both the house and the senate. While it might not be the result of their victory it doesn’t reflect well on this fact coinciding with said victory.

The rise in oil price is largely due to the devaluation of the dollar since oil is traded in US dollars (USD). The reason for the downturn in the value of the dollar is complex and is not solely the result of the War in Iraq and blaming the president for these events is just as erroneous as blaming the Democrats taking control of Capitol Hill. It could be argued that he could be more pro-active in confronting OPEC (Arab states that we send financial aid and military assistance to including having defended Kuwait). OPEC is in clear violation of anti-trust laws regarding this since they are engaging in price fixing by way of horizontal agreements that create output restrictions which are against EC and US law.

Domestic production can be greatly increased by reversing the moratorium on offshore oil drilling. Ironically in this case the opposition to offshore oil drilling has been somewhat of a bipartisan effort however the primary stumbling block to this is opposition by the strong environmental lobby and their sway on the Democratic house and senate.

Perez, I usually enjoy checking your site to see which retarded celeb you've insulted. But this post annoyed the heck out of me. The only thing that makes up for your ignorant views on the (non-existent) relationship of oil prices and GW Bush is the fact that so many readers have already reamed you for it. I let out a sigh of relief when I read the comments by readers who understand concepts like economic principles, supply and demand, OPEC, etc. You know, those little things called "facts". Thanks, fellow readers, for calling out Perez on his blatantly idiotic post. No doubt his Bush-bashing is fueled by the fact that our president isn't a homosexual illegal. Stick to crude scribbles and bashing celebs, Perezita!

Does anyone in the US pay attention to the rest of the world at all? People all around the world pay to check their bags on domestic or short-haul flights and pay massive taxes and fuel surcharges to fly. Honestly, you're just catching up with the times. I can't wait to see what happens if gas prices turned into what they are elsewhere - the UK is up around $8-10 gallon and you don't hear half the complaining that you do here as you would in the US. I never realized what a country of complainers we were until I moved. Goodness gracious, blame it all on someone else but its just a sign of the times and is happening all over the world.

    322

And everyone puts down Israel. If y'all just sit back and let Israel live peacefully, they will develop an alternative to fuel and this will be history. They are already working on it - after all, they've been paying over $7.20 per gallon of gas, so they have great incentives. And if anyone can do it, it's a Jewish mind.

Can we please have a bullet train system now? Supporting the airlines was a huge mistake, should have changed technologies. I mean, it be a little more than half as fast as flying, depending on the routes, but it certainly feel luxurious. Last time I flew American Airlines the plane was so old I thought it was going to crash! They actually crash all the time but it gets covered up, google my friend. Economy flights had nicer planes 5 years ago, who got all those nice new planes? China? Russia? Korea? Who cares, we need better energy-efficient transportation, and we need yesterday.

  30. kal111 says – reply to this

    330

OK PEOPLE…LISTEN UP!!!! THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH BUSH. LET ME EXPLAIN…

I work in the airline industry for an airline owned company that put all the fare related data out there for the world to see and buy. This is a service charge that has ultimately been in the works since 9/11! Have you ever wondered why air fares are no longer $150? Blame your friendly neighborhood terrorists that decided to use USA owned businesses with aircraft to take down the US economy. This attack has paralized the airline industry. Nothing has been the same. There have been extra service fees on baggage…sitting in a window seat…or sitting in a specific part of the aircraft…food…taxes…etc for 5 or 6 years now. Now with fuel prices being what they are something has to give. If you think fuel prices are the only extra fee you're paying open your eyes and read aviation news. This is NOTHING compared to what's already been added to your ticket price. Bottom line, flying is benefit to those who can afford it. Don't whine and complain about it if you're not going to walk, run, ride your bike or drive to your destination of choice. It's a service offered to people to help make their lives easier. If you don't like the prices, then don't fly. After all, prices were much more expensive in the 70's than they are now!

Other countries, even oil rich countries, have been paying far more for gas than the U.S. for years. Other countries are prepared to pay more, and are getting the fuel orders. These oil guys are George's milking buddies. He's only got a few months left to get the future cash flow in order.

    335

By the way…Bush may not be the total blame, but he still refused to by oil from Russia when they first offered it to us at only 50$ a barrel, and now since he refused the first offer they brought their prices up to about 100$ a barrel. Yeah, he still has some blame will oil prices, and the economy in general. Besides, what really gets me the most was how he promised to lower gas prices in his presidental campaign (and I will admit, every candidate did), but instead, we had record breakers in high prices! WHAT THE FUCK!!!

  36. J.R. says – reply to this

And the could do something to stop the high gas prices but they wish not to make a freeze. LOOK at the PROFIT the OIL companies are making. Doesn't take a rocket sciencist to figure that out. Bush is sending out rebates to make himself look good before he gets out of office. Well fuck him cause that shit is not even working. How many people have to loose their jobs and we become homeless? They are spending money over their for this war. Do you think they are coming back here to fill up on gas? No they are spending our money over their making their country more richer by using their oil. They are bombing shit over their then rebuilding their shit. Making them once agian richer. Boosting their economy paying to rebuild shit.

FOR THE LAST TIME, BUSH DOES NOT CONTROL OIL PRICES!

    CHRIST!

I agree that he's a terrible President and a stupid man, but he's not responsible for the cost of fuel. Its down to supply and demand, i.e. there is a high demand and an ever decreasing amount of it.

  40. Gord says – reply to this

    340

Oil, Schmoil. Everyone knew decades ago that it was a limited resource. Add India and China, and you knew there wouldn't be enough. Alternate forms of transportation energy are likely available, youtube/ free energy, but the infrastructure is in place for oil and employs thousands, so alternate energy won't be brought in until its necessitated. The framework should be laid sooner than later, though, or it will be a nasty transition. Brazil is completely oil independent; after they came to a standstill decades ago in a gas shortage, they weaned the whole country off of oil. They use ethanol produced in their sugar cane fields, and it's cleaner burning. Ethanol users support their own economy, but it takes up edible crop space. The lid will be forcefully kept on alternate energy until the wells run dry, IMHO.

But then why are oil and gas prices still rising? You know NOTHING about the economy, or democracy. But you plague the internet with your thoughts because you have been fed by the liberal media to believe that Bush is the "bad guy." I dare you to debate Larry King, or even Ann Coulter over your political views and you'll be made to look like the ass you are because you simple know NOTHING about foreign affairs, American's economy, micro or macro, or anything relating to politics. The only reason we have ANY production in this country is because companies like Exxon Mobil and Connoco Phillips fought tooth and nail to stay solvent enough to keep their doors open and door exploritory drilling in the late 80s and 90s during the oilfield bust. These companies make HUGE contributions to the economy, and if you don't think so look at the natural gas fields in North Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, Pennsylvania and West Virginia to name a few. North Texas for one has a thriving economy due to the gas and oil drilling going on the last few years by these "evil" companies. You should be thanking them, they are the only reason we are only 60% dependent on foreign oil. These big companies have HUGE exploration programs that generate thousands of jobs and service companies, not to mention monthly checks for lucky royalty owners. Learn something about the oil and gas industry before you go spouting off at the mouth about something you really don't understand.

IN ONE SITUATION, FATIGUE AND CRACKING ACTUALLY CAUSED THE ROOF OF AN ALOHA AIRLINES BOEING 737 TO PEEL OFF OVER MAUI, WHERE A FLIGHT ATTENDANT WAS SUCKED OUT OF THE AIRPLANE AND DUMPED INTO THE OCEAN. THE TRUTH IS, THE GOVERMENT MAY PRETEND TO SHOW CONCERN AS A MEANS TO SATIATE YOU, BUT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO STOP THE OIL COMPANIES FROM LYING ABOUT WHY THEY KEEP RAISING THE PRICES, BECAUSE EVERY TIME THEY DO, THE GOVERMENT'S TAX REVENUES GO UP.
