Embracing The V

oprahrules.jpg

For 21 whole days, Oprah is going vegan.

No meat. No fish. No dairy.

Nada!

The queen of talk was reportedly inspired by Kathy Freston's book Quantum Wellness and says, "this 21-day cleanse gives me a chance to think about [eating] differently and see what my attachments are to certain kinds of foods – and what I'm willing to do to change.

You can keep up with Oprah's vegan experiment on her blog.

So far, she says, "Wow, wow, wow! I never imagined meatless meals could be so satisfying."

Have fun on that, O, but we need our chorizo to feel happy.

Salchichon!

wonder how much this greedy cunt is getting paid for this stunt. She does nothing for free. The only person i know that can turn a profit being charitable. does eating gayles clam count as meat.

    103

Perez, you are FAT. So is Oprah. I don't know how either of you can be happy (eating your chorizo) with so much extra weight and other health problems.
Good for her for actually giving a non-fad diet a try.
    You should think about it.

  4. mama says – reply to this

    104

Perez, you need to try Soyrizo, it's just as good as chorizo. I kid you not. It's like there's a party in my mouth and everyone's invited!

This is the best thing you can do for the environment (eating meat is one of the largest polluters!!) for the animals (even so called free-range and humanly raised animals end up at the same slaughterhouses where their throats are slit and bled out while fully conscience) and your health (going vegan is the healthiest diet you can have!) There are plenty of fake meat and dairy options that are amazing, it's easier than ever to go vegan.

I would highly recommend reading Skinny Bitch BTW.

protein, iron, zinc, calcium, and vitamin B-12. are all thing lacking in the usual vegan diet. while there are options to getting enough, most of america is lazy or uneducated and act on impulse. a lot of people trying to copy oprah will niglect to eat some of these things even if they are mentioned on the show.

  10. ILoveVegans says – reply to this

    110

I'm happy with anything that's promoting veganism. Hopefully Oprah sticks with it! Everyone should consider going cruelty-free. Get off the rotting, decomposing flesh diet!

  11. ange says – reply to this

    111

Carol vorderman's 30 day detox diet is even more full on: No wheat, dairy, meat, fish, caffine or alcohol…..
Just wheat free pasta, brown rice, detox tea, vegetables and fruit. Fucking kills after three days.

  12. heathe says – reply to this

    112

    Perez, look up SOYRIZO.

just as good without the cow flesh. :)

    113

Who the fuck cares? Really? She's one step away from becoming a scientologist as she star fucks Travolta, Tom Cruise, Kirsty Alley, etc. Travolta is a homo. He was at the gay clubs in the late 70's as a lot of people saw him out. He dated a male porn star with pictures to prove it. He used a dead woman as his cover, calling her is "girlfriend", and Oprah treats him like the "husband of the year". What the fuck is wrong with her?

  14. tg says – reply to this

    114

O i love u, but this is not a big deal, most Ethiopians do that 200 day out the year, so it is not a big deal u only going to be free of fat.

  15. Rachel says – reply to this

    115

I agree Bea - how can Perez be anti-fur but not anti-meat? Both industries are barbaric, and unnecessary.

  16. Leela says – reply to this

    116

I see Oprah's promoting someone's book. I wish she would just get that she is obviously eating way too many simple carbs, and that is why she's overweight. This approach will only leave her hungry, confused, and hopelessly fat…which many vegans find themselves. Yes, low fat may help you lose weight, but you'll be miserable because it's not natural and requires a lot of will power. Low carb is the answer for anyone with weight problems…Period. Our bodies aren't geared to handle the massive amounts of carbs that most people are eating these days, and that is the reason for the obesity rate.

Oprah just seems to jump on bandwagons when what she really should be doing is cutting out the bad carbs. Her approach to weight loss is ridiculous and temporary. It's time to get real here…she eats too many carbs!

  17. Carroll Cadden says – reply to this

    117

Then you've never had Soyrizo, Perez. Might sound gross, but it's really, really good. My parents are life-long meat eaters and really like it. Give it a try! Keep on keepin' on.

  18. Steve says – reply to this

    118

    There is vegan Chorizo!

  19. Robino says – reply to this

    119

Perez, there is something called Soyrizo if you must have it. It's quite delicious. I guess I've been on an 18 year cleanse or something. Good for Oprah! I hope she also talks about the billions of animals suffering for typical American diets, rather than just her petty selfish weight problems.

  20. Robo says – reply to this

    120

    Re: jp
JP, I love how everyone claims to be so concerned about alleged deficiencies in vegan diets but never thinks about the things you get too much of or not enough of in non-vegan diets. Too much:fat, cholesterol, protein (leaches calcium from your bones), pesticides (comes from animal fat 10X more than sprayed produce), hormones, antibiotics; too little: fiber, antioxidants, unsaturated fats, most vitamins. Our species was 95-100% vegan until about 50,000 years ago, out of the 1-2 million years that homo sapiens and immediate predecessors have been around.

  21. mathew says – reply to this

    121

So after 21 days Saint Oprah goes back to eating animals and contribute to their slaughtering. Maybe after her 21-day vegan diet she can become a full time vegetarian and stop contributing to their suffering.

  22. Michele in Ohio says – reply to this

    122

Send me a chef and I'll do it too! How about Oprah shopping for all the food and cooking it and finding delicious recipes.

Oprah is full of crap! When her weight gets out of control she goes on vacation, comes back skinny, and says she didn't have surgery or anything. She is copying Robin from Howard Stern who really did lose weight that way, but she is just at a spa getting her fat sucked out to save face because she challenged people in Mississippi to lose weight with her but she just got fatter.

People have been doing it for yeeeears and they act like its a brand new concept.

I eat meat, because I LOVE it, its yummy. I also know where my produce is from. I have no problem with anyone being vegan as long as they don't shove their way of life down my throat.

and btw- if anyone in atlanta wants to pay me to be their personal vegan chef, hit me up. and I don't make hippie granola shit. I make all- american food, just vegan, and it is good! my food is always the first to go at parties!

  51. Marcus Aurelius says – reply to this

    151

Some blogger/poster keeps saying she's "jumped [over] the shark". Which means someone has drastically changed their view/position on an issue. A very significant issue, for them. Anyone want to shed some light on that for me?

  52. Kelly says – reply to this

    152

I like Oprah a lot, but honestly, it's not a big deal to go vegan. Tons of people have done it before her. And on top of it, she's only doing it for 3 weeks and from the look she has a chef doing all the work for her. I would love to see that she's cooking the meals herself. There's more to being vegan than "cleansing" your body. I'm a vegetarian (no meat or fish) and I rarely eat dairy products. It's not that hard. Seeing Oprah make a big deal over being vegan for 21 days makes me want to puke. "Well, I feel like I got baptized in Vegan Land today." That's crap.

Healthy food= things like fruits and veggies..Last time I checked those were a lot cheaper than pounds of meat.. Pretty interesting huh?? And for the record..Mickey D's has a dollar menu that has salads and fries hmmmm sounds vegan to me…You don't have to take pills to get your iron intake green veggies have all you need.. Anyone can be a vegan or vegg all it takes is a little common sense and some compassion for animals and LIFE.. It's not expensive EDUCATE yourself pls!! Oh and got puss?? Don't worry if you don't cuz Cow Milk has plenty ;)

I am vegan and its hella easy. dairy equals fat guys…duh

  58. LALALALAI says – reply to this

    158

This is such an obvious attempt at masking a crash diet. There is absolutely nothing about going vegan that is even the slightest bit restrictive. I know this because I am. In a very short time, you come into a practical list of ingredients and you can make almost anything. And that is coming from a POOR vegan, so imagine how easily a FILTHY RICH ONE WITH A PERSONAL CHEF might get along.

  59. Kate says – reply to this

    159

There are millions of people out there who don't have personal chefs, but yet are vegans in their own right. Just because it's "hard" doesn't mean it can't be done. So instead of complaining, criticizing, judging, just take a look at your own life and try to do something good instead of pulling others down with your nasty comments. Showing off low energy does nothing for yourself or others.

  73. Cruelty-Free says – reply to this

    173

I normally couldn't care less about what Oprah is up to. But I'm happy that she is adopting a cruelty-diet - even though it is only for 21 days. Maybe she'll decide to go that way indefinitely.

There is no need to eat meat - Vegans don't need protein pills to be healthy. You people need to educate yourself. Meat is full of steroids, hormones, trace antibiotics and other nasty things. Animals are slaughtered in inhumane conditions, and the workers who take these jobs are generally treated like crap and not paid very well for what they are doing.
The meat and dairy industry is responsible for a LOT of environmental damage.
Going vegan is good for the environment, its shows you have compassion towards animals, who are not ours to eat, torture or wear, and it's healthy for your body.

    175

If you consider the human digestive tract, it most closely resembles that of the great apes — with whom we share 97% of our DNA. The apes are vegan — they don't eat animals. Whenever the "evolutionary diet" was tested on human subjects — this means only fruit, vegetables and the small amount of salt humans actually need — cholesterol and blood pressure improved as did overall health. Meat rots in the intestines — because our intestines aren't designed for a meat-eating diet. If we ate the way our bodies were designed to eat — fruits and vegetables — we would see a precipitious decline in diabetes, heart disease, cancer and a huge gain in life expectancy. In other words, if you want to live a long, healthy life, go vegan and stay away from the sweets.

All three of these items are in everything. Gluten is hard since is even in rice. SHe is rich, she can find the best whole foods out there. They say gluten is what is making people fat!
