Ellen to Marry at the Bush Crawford Ranch?!

First lady Laura Bush and daughter (the recently married) Jenna Bush Hager will appear in next Wednesday's episode of Ellen.
And, unlike John McCain (boo!), Republican by blood Jenna showed support for Ellen's upcoming nups to Portia DeRossi.
In a conversation (taped Thursday) about public figures desiring privacy on their big day, Jenna greenlighted Ellen's request to use the Bush family compound for her wedding.
Ellen: So, the ranch was a great place to get married – it looked like nobody could fly over and get pictures or bother you, really.
Jenna: Yeah, that was really nice.
Ellen: So, can we borrow it for our wedding, can we get the ranch?
Jenna: Sure!
Ellen: Okay, great!
Aww. We've always had a little soft spot in our heart for Jenna.
We all know that the Ellen nups would never happen on the Bush ranch…but wouldn't it be a great if it actually did happen?!

I don't understand why you keep blasting McCain over his appearance on Ellen. They had a respectful discussion about a subject they both feel strongly about and agreed to disagree. There was no screaming or hurling of bigoted insults. I thought the interview was a prime example of what makes democracy work in this country and applaud both for taking the risk of confronting the issue directly. But I was not offended by McCain's remarks. People are allowed to hold their own beliefs. Forcing somebody to accept that which they feel is morally wrong is no better than forcing me to love somebody of the opposite sex. It is barbaric and it certainly won't make my life, as a gay woman, any easier. I wish people hell bent on being an activist for the next "in" movement would grew up and realized this fact. But then, I am continually amazed at how many people are more concerned about my sexual rights than I am. Here's a real shocker for you - I'm gay and I'M opposed to gay marriage. Does that make me a traitor of some sort? And I know that I am not alone in that feeling. There is far more to the discussion than your one-sided snide comments reveals.
I'm all for Ellen getting married wherever she wants–but not on the Bush ranch. McCain may be a nice person–I like him because he was a POW–but he stands for everything that I don't. It would be very dangerous if he were elected pres b/c he would put pricks on the supreme court and try and undo all of the progress that has been done in this country. That is like trying to get Cheny to walk you down the isle when his daughter is openly gay but he has fought against her rights his whole life.
California's Supreme Court ruled to allow gay marriage, but as far as I know, it is still illegal in Tex-ASS. So, nobody but straight folk are getting hitched on Bush's okay corral.

I don't think McCain really cares if gay couples are allowed to be married. I consider myself to be very Reaganesque conservative and I could care less. That is such a low ranking issue as to important things in the world today. He has to make that statement because he is already on thin ice with the "conservative" part of the party. The executive branch won't be the power that changes this anyways, it will be the judicial branch. Marriage was originally a civil institution created to protect against promiscuity and illegitimate children, largely because they created such a problem for inheritance purposes. It may very well happen, I have been an Ellen fan for a long time and she is actually quite friendly with the first President George Bush, they do charity work together. For goodness sake, she had Jenna call the president live on her television show and he took the phone call so he could say hi to her. Pre-concieved notions are usually false anyhow… I'm just glad that Ellen and Portia get to express their love for eachother in a legally binding ceremony just like everyone else's rights allow them to.

A. McCain is not now, nor has he ever been a culture warrior. That's why Huckabee (a preacher) beat him in all the Southern states.
B. McCain voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment.
C. Both Democrat candidates oppose gay marriage just as much as McCain. I think the Clintons even oppose civil unions. Plus, Bill signed and supported the Defense of Marriage Act.
D. (not pertaining to this issue, but to other statements Perez has made) Obama's not playing dirty with the Clintons. It's the other way around. She's made multiple attempts to steal the nomination.
You can't make everybody accept the gay lifestyle. Get over it! You can't make everybody like blacks,hispanics and asians.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Gay marriage goes against everything that's natural and people can't handle that. It does seem a little weird to have gay people getting married as it isn't a very healthy environment to raise kids in. I wouldn't want my kids to see a gay couple "officially" living together and married, let alone have children live in that environment. It is perfectly fine to be gay, but to be so public with it is almost rude. So i think McCain is perfectly right in his opinion.- Don't be so ignorant to your own views.
