Why do people buy cute fluffy dogs and then cut their hair? If the dog is groomed a few times a month and lives indoor why cut them? Why not let them look like the breed they are? I have an Old English Sheepdog who is not cut. I bought the dog for its looks. If you are to lazy to maintain a fluffy dog, there are plenty of short haired ones.

he is the cutest!. i love his personality. he seems like he is so much fun but i know because of his breed he is super smart & probably listens.i love my boston terriers but they are so crazy.they are smart but super stubborn & have tons of energy.they play all day. they would love teddy because he obviously loves to paly too! i am glad you walk him everday & that you got him a summer cut. dogs need that in the summer in cali because it gets so hot. your big redeaming factor perez is that you love dogs!!

I work for a biotechnology that does Animal Genetics and have my Veterinary practice. This is a PRIME EXAMPLE of NOT to buy Trendy mix/designer breeds. It's just a really dumb fad. What your getting is an unpredictable dog that will have hyperactive,fear, aggression issues. You might get lucky and get a well mannered pup out of a litter. Its a crap shoot. I've seen many Golden or Labradoodles that has behavioral problems. Don't be stupid people if you want a dog with character buy a pure/well bred Labrador or golden retriever from a reputable AKC breeder. Many of these ignorant breeders selling these mixes are in it just to make a quick BUCK. Adopt if also possible. The cool kids are doing it.

Every goldendoodle I have met has been a spaz. It is link they are not wired quite right in the brain. Crossbreeding sucks.
A goldendoodle is nothing more than an expensive mongrel. Because the genetic makeup is diverse from the Poodle genes and the Labrador genes, the resultant first generation (F1) offspring is a complete genetic gamble. The dog may be any size, color, coat texture and temperament. Indeed goldendoodles do shed. Their coat may be wiry or silky and may mat. Body shape varies with parentage but tends to be lanky and narrow. Behavior varies with the dog and within a litter with some puppies poodle-like in attitude and others somewhat like the Labrador Retriever.
The Labrador Retriever Club, Inc. is opposed to cross-breeding of dogs and is particularly opposed to the deliberate crossing of Labrador Retrievers with any other breed. These crossbreds are a deliberate attempt to mislead the public with the idea that there is an advantage to these designer dogs. The crossbred dogs are prone to all of the genetic disease of both breeds and offer none of the advantages that owning a purebred dog has to offer.

It is taking my personal favorite breed (golden retriever) and crossing it with my personal least favorite breed (poodle). Ugh! What an atrocity.

The point is, Why breed these mongrels in the first place? Since your family breeds, whether for pet or show, I hope you realize what will happen if people keep putting money in the mongrel-breeders's pockets, they will continue to breed these mutts, and encourage more people to breed more poodle crosses, and more and more and more. It's not about backyard breeding or puppymilling really. Breeding should be done to PRESERVE the breeds!! If everyone continues to breed these mutts, do you know what will happen? Within 50 years, there will be not a purebreed poodle, golden retriever, labrador, schnauzer, cocker spaniel, etc. etc. etc. anywhere anymore. They would all have been mongrelized out of existence. It's happened many times before. Responsible breeders work hard (and I mean HARD) to improve the breeds they choose to breed. It's not right when a mongrel breeder makes up their mind that they are going to mix breeds.
All that being said, I have nothing against mixed breed dogs. I don't personally care for poodle mixes, but the whole concept of "designer dogs" is very sad. I can remember a time when mongrels were mostly cute, inexpensive family companions. Now everyone wants to mix every breed under the sun with poodles, and to me, poo-mixes are homely!! Then charge $1000 or more for them. In today's economy as well, it's not a good idea to spend that much on a dog that only 15 years ago would have costed a potential owner next to nothing. Then where do you think those pups that can't sell end up? In pounds and foster homes, that's where. Because the breeder decided to mix these pups for no other reason than to make money. And after 4 months old, those big pups are not likely to sell at all. So they have to dump them somewhere, right? That's where people like me have to step in and save these unwanted pets, because after I lost my Groucho 2 years ago, I cannot bear to think of another dog put to sleep. So the ones on death row come and live with me, and I try my damndest to find them good homes. Most of the dogs I've rescued were labrad-oodles and goldoodles that were promised by the breeders to have better temperaments than their purebreed parents. Which is a load of horse-shit!!! But thanks to that, I've developed a "sixth sense" about what animals are thinking.

Seeing this cheered me up for the first time in the last few days. I had to put my dog to sleep (she had cancer) a few days ago, the very same day a tornado came through my home town and devastated most of the town. Thanks for putting a smile on my face.

Neither bichons nor poodles shed. Don't know what kind of terrier is behind your dog, some terrier breeds shed while others don't. You may have been lucky and got a pup with more of the non-shedding genes. But not every mongrel owner is that lucky. When my long-coated chihuahua visited Michigan with us last summer, she shed a LOT!! It was soooo hot! She looked nappy too. Then we came back here and she stopped shedding and grew her coat back. It happens. Nature takes care of her babies.
