I have no personal issue with you, and I am sure you are a very intelligent individual; however, generalizing and using phrases like "you guys" when discussing events from the past attacks an entire nation of people that mainly had NOTHING to do with events from nearly 50 years ago. It comes across as quite thick-headed; why not judge people on a person-to-person basis? A person's nationality is one of many identities that are attributed to an individual. In generalizing and stereotyping, you come across as awfully thick-headed. I have spent an entire year in England on study abroad, and have met some of the most amazing, sweet, intelligent and genuine people here that I will be friends with forever; not that I didn't expect to meet amazing people. Same goes for you Steph; maybe you have had quite a few negative encounters with Americans, for which I am very embarrassed and do apologize; but generalizing and attacking all Americans is not very fair. I've been to France a few times this year, and I have LOVED it. Of course I ran into a few jerks along the way- maybe they were just having a bad day, I'm not really sure. But I didn't let that impact how I view the French as a whole, because that is not rational, and spurns hate. You just have to amount that to one jerk in your day- but that doesn't speak for an entire country full of people. Some of my closest friends that I have made while traveling abroad are French; I don't choose friends based on nationality, I choose based on who they are- their character. This has been the most amazing experience for me, and I hope to visit France again in the near future. Now I am not defending America as a whole, but more so the individuals; please don't judge as a whole, because many of us are amazing people.
