Have we finally grown tired of Oprah Winfrey????
The answer (sadly) seems to be a resounding "Yes!"
The New York Times just wrote this article about the tarnishing of the O brand and they point out some startling facts.
- The average audience for The Oprah Winfrey Show has fallen nearly 7 percent this year, according to Nielsen Media Research — its third straight year of decline.
- The circulation of O, The Oprah Magazine, has fallen by more than 10 percent in the last three years, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, and the magazine is now seeking a new editor in chief after the announced retirement of its longtime steward, Amy Gross.
- Oprah’s Big Give, an ABC philanthropic reality show, beat every program on television except American Idol in its premiere week this winter, but steadily lost nearly one-third of its audience during the rest of its eight-week run, according to Nielsen.
- Her endorsement of the presidential bid of Senator Barack Obama appears to have alienated some of the middle-aged white women who make up the bulk of her television audience, many of whom support Senator Hillary Clinton.
- Ms. Winfrey has lost viewers in some markets while The Ellen DeGeneres Show has gained.
- Ms. Winfrey is also continuing to develop new programs. A spinoff talk show featuring Dr. Mehmet Oz is planned for 2009, and earlier this year she signed a development deal for television projects featuring Kirstie Alley. A syndicated talk/cooking show featuring Rachael Ray has been less successful and has recently fallen out of Nielsen’s list of the top 25 syndicated programs.
- If Ms. Winfrey has cut back any part of her schedule, it has been in appearances in support of Mr. Obama. Following high-profile rallies just prior to the Iowa caucuses in December and leading up to Super Tuesday in February, Ms. Winfrey all but disappeared from the campaign trail, leading some pundits to wonder whether she had gauged a negative effect on her business.
- A Gallup poll conducted in October, shortly after Ms. Winfrey announced her support of Mr. Obama, found that her “favorable” rating fell by 8 percentage points, to 66 percent, from 74 percent in January 2007; her “unfavorable” mark jumped by more than half, to 26 percent from 17 percent.

Oprah needs to STOP having so many "black" oriented shows and get back to interviewing celebrities and shows with "real" people who need help. That is what made her famous in the first place–helping people and getting the word out about everyday people w/ everyday problems. Now it seems like whenever I tune in, its either Dr. Oz or some "poor me" black topic and I change the channel.
What kind of trouble could Oprah possibly have? She can BUY ALL OF THE NETWORKS if she chooses to do so!! Get real, there is nothing for Oprah to be afraid of. SHe has made her BILLIONS and her BILLIONS are making BILLIONS for her. Including her investments in "other hosts". Oprah's shows just aren't that interesting anymore. Does anyone really want to watch a show about a search around the country for the best sandwich? Or the best pizza? I don't. The best show she had on recently was the show with Brian Weiss. Finally, something new (to me anyway) and interesting. But, when Oprah wouldn't even try it, I lost a lot of respect for her. I used to tape her show every day but now it's like once a week if that. I check to see what the topic is before I set my dvr. Again today another show I have no interest in.
Maybe that's where obama is getting all his money. i bet that whore has funded more then half his campaign.

Oprah's shows just aren't that interesting anymore. Does anyone really want to watch a show about a search around the Country for the best sandwich–in Gayle's opinion, I might add. When Gayle did the search for the best pizza and in Maryland Gayle loved Lido's pizza, I went ballistic! I hate Lido's pizza. It's made with smoked provolone! No mozzarella! Whoever heard of rating a pizza with no mozzarella as the best in the state? It's not even pizza - it's a cheese sandwich! I used to tape Oprah everyday; now it's like once a week. I check the topic before I even set my dvr. Again today it's a topic I have no interest in.
Oprah is condescending and patronizing, that is why I stopped watching her. She talks down to anyone who isn't a celebrity. Furthermore, I could not help but notice how rude and downright HOSTILE the Obama supporters are. Challenge any aspect of this man and they start screaming hateful tirades at you, just one more reason NOT to vote for him.
What hurts more, her girdle or her halo? All she cares about is her money and rubbing her ostentatious lifestyle in everyones faces. She has no compassion for those less fortunate and believes those who are struggling financially in the US, deserve to be. She is preachy, arrogant, shallow and totally out of touch with reality. I was never a fan but my family who were once fans have one by one totally been turned off. Miss perfect needs to learn some humble pie. It figures her latest show was about charities fighting over money. Disgusting. My advise for O is that she has to learn that nobody's perfect, not even her. Be humble, be sympathetic, and get real.
I happen to like Oprah. Even if she doesn't have the power she once had, she still is a force to be reckoned with. I think these statistics are a little overexaggerated.
No one gives a shit about Oprah anymore. She's so freaking rich now, she's out of touch with the audience. I wish she'd just go away and take her recommendations with her.

When Gayle and Oprah did the road trip Oprah was APPALLED at some of the hotels/motels she stayed in but when she arrived in Vegas at the swanky 4 star hotel (forget the name)..she DIDN"T KNOW HOW TO CHECK IN…..WTF…Earth to Oprah….you walk up to the counter and say "I'd like to check in". It's not that difficult. I guess her servants do that for her. It revealed a lot about Oprah. Also the debacle surrounding James Frey was BRUTAL…(.his new book is great!) I agree with this article. I am one of the Middle aged white women who were turned off by the fact that Oprah pushed Obama on us without any true information. Just because he is a black man was not good enough reason for her to endorse him. I felt from the beginning that this was a misuse of her celebrity status. Now that information has come out showing that this man might be a closet racist, and a uninformed man makes me very nervous.
When she opened her big stupid mouth about who she was endorsing Iwannabe obama that was the beginning of her end. I immediately STOPPED watching Oprah after she started publicly supporting Obama. Nothing against Obama, but I watch Oprah for her show, not her politics. It was a HUGE turn off. And what a turn off it was! I turned off my TV. Now, I switched over to Ellen.
