Have we finally grown tired of Oprah Winfrey????
The answer (sadly) seems to be a resounding "Yes!"
The New York Times just wrote this article about the tarnishing of the O brand and they point out some startling facts.
- The average audience for The Oprah Winfrey Show has fallen nearly 7 percent this year, according to Nielsen Media Research — its third straight year of decline.
- The circulation of O, The Oprah Magazine, has fallen by more than 10 percent in the last three years, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, and the magazine is now seeking a new editor in chief after the announced retirement of its longtime steward, Amy Gross.
- Oprah’s Big Give, an ABC philanthropic reality show, beat every program on television except American Idol in its premiere week this winter, but steadily lost nearly one-third of its audience during the rest of its eight-week run, according to Nielsen.
- Her endorsement of the presidential bid of Senator Barack Obama appears to have alienated some of the middle-aged white women who make up the bulk of her television audience, many of whom support Senator Hillary Clinton.
- Ms. Winfrey has lost viewers in some markets while The Ellen DeGeneres Show has gained.
- Ms. Winfrey is also continuing to develop new programs. A spinoff talk show featuring Dr. Mehmet Oz is planned for 2009, and earlier this year she signed a development deal for television projects featuring Kirstie Alley. A syndicated talk/cooking show featuring Rachael Ray has been less successful and has recently fallen out of Nielsen’s list of the top 25 syndicated programs.
- If Ms. Winfrey has cut back any part of her schedule, it has been in appearances in support of Mr. Obama. Following high-profile rallies just prior to the Iowa caucuses in December and leading up to Super Tuesday in February, Ms. Winfrey all but disappeared from the campaign trail, leading some pundits to wonder whether she had gauged a negative effect on her business.
- A Gallup poll conducted in October, shortly after Ms. Winfrey announced her support of Mr. Obama, found that her “favorable” rating fell by 8 percentage points, to 66 percent, from 74 percent in January 2007; her “unfavorable” mark jumped by more than half, to 26 percent from 17 percent.
Wow.
Tough times for Winfrey!!!

its stupid. first, nielsen's ratings are based on a group of select people, then they just throw in a few calculations and expect all of america to be doing the same the group is doing. second, alienating, or not watching a show because of who they are supporting for president? that would be like my best friend coming up to me and saying "i like hillary you like barack, we just can't be friends". it is really dumb. both are strong candidates, so people should suck it up and not discriminate against someone for their views. lastly, i dont get why oprah is being so researched and attacked. she has onnly ever done good. must all hollywood stars be given a downside, be put under too much pressure. we wonder why the hell everyone in hollywood is so fucked up. thats because we cause it. its only funny until they kill themselves. i dont blame this sight for reporting news about whats going on, i blame nielsen's ratings, and people judging people, and stereo-types and all the other bullshit. leave it in high school. whats the matter? oprah is the nice girl that wasn't always the prettiest so you've just gotta make fun of her some how? lets call her a lesbian and show her that nobody likes her. not funny assholes.

At the conclusion of a hearing Thursday morning before California Superior Court Judge Aurelio N. Munoz, lawyers for Hollywood mogul Peter F. Paul will begin seeking sworn testimony from all three Clintons – Bill, Hillary and Chelsea – along with top Democratic Party leaders and A-list celebrities, including Barbra Streisand, John Travolta, Brad Pitt and Cher.
Paul's team hopes for a trial in October. The Clinton's longtime lawyer David Kendall, who will attend the hearing, has declined comment on the suit.
The Clintons have tried to dismiss the case, but the California Supreme Court, in 2004, upheld a lower-court decision to deny the motion.
Bill Clinton, according to the complaint, promised to promote Paul's Internet entertainment company, Stan Lee Media, in exchange for stock, cash options and massive contributions to his wife's 2000 Senate campaign. Paul contends he was directed by the Clintons and Democratic Party leaders to produce, pay for and then join them in lying about footing the bill for a Hollywood gala and fundraiser.

As a 43 yr old white female…I've always enjoyed the Oprah show…but I enjoy Ellen Degeneres MUCH more. Ellen's shows are usually upbeat and bring a smile to my day…she also seems much more genuine than Oprah, even with Oprah's new age/spiritual lean…she still comes across as pretentious. It seems she's just involved in toooo much. She complained the other day on her show that she "works too much" and is "tired all the time". I don't think anyone would mind if she took an extended vacation for a year or so.

Soon after that O had the subject on her show. 2 months ago ANT announced some type of ambassadorship he wanted to do and now it has been announced O is doing it. Is her next book of the month going to be The Four Agreements too? That is the topic for June with ANT.
