What Happened To The Comeback???
The New Kids on the Block's "comeback" single, Summertime, has stalled BIG TIME.
The song has failed to catch on at radio and….
According to the new Soundscan singles chart, Summertime has dropped out of the top 50 selling songs.
Ouch!
To date, NKOTB's Summertime has sold a pathetic sad 62,000 downloads.
Hey, at least their reunion tour is selling well.*
*Allegedly.

There's one simple reason behind that. No one wants them to make a comeback, we just want a bit of nostalgia through a reunion tour, kind of like the Spice Girls did. Not a career renewal.
They totally suck now anyway! Sorry NKOTB– when I loved you I was about 8 years old!
Listen you wanna be, don't hate..
Ava,
You need to see if you haven't already that you were successful in school, stayed off drugs and stood up for yourself on your own in spite of the group.
Their recent material and TV appearances don't make one want to buy tickets. You guys have to stop looking at them as they were Gods or important when they are NOT. They're normal people who can sing for a living. That's about it and not very well might I add.
Fans are looking through rose colored glasses at these guys and not seeing what everyone else is seeing their dancing was terrible, band was the pits and they were all singing out of tune and off key.
It just comes across as extremely flaky for 30-year-olds to camp out for three nights to try and see them or go nuts at Macy's making a spectacle and or make fools of themselves by paying $375 for VIP packages to completely gush over them in person and tell them what they meant to them when they were 12.
If they acted their ages and were mature on the NKOTB message board and a board like this maybe radio and the rest of society would take the band seriously. Same thing goes with calling non-stop to radio stations in a drive to boost said single up. Act 30 not 13.
Also, I hope fans knock it the hell off with the damn childish signs that they can't even read from the stage at concerts and observe the "no cameras" policy that not only means professional cameras, video and lenses but cell phones and point and shoot cameras. Just take the concert in like everyone else.
Here's the problem! It's the summertime, people don't wait to hear a ballad. They should have released an upbeat single with dance remixes. That would get the party started perfectly.
One more thing: It's quite evident that there has been a lot of vocal sweetening, knob twisting, mistake fixing and pro-tools to make this song sound right. It's over-produced the radio/album version. If you listen to the concert and TV appearances you can tell the band and the performers are way off. It's the truth.
i'm a big NKOTB fan but this song…Summertime…stinks!
it's terrible…
You're an asshole Perez! Let's see if people give a shit about you in twenty years? Let's see what kind of paycheck you'll be collecting in twenty years?? Lipo is expensive, good luck!
the spice girls single was their lowest charting single and didn't sell crazy well but the tour still sold out and was a success.
Pathetic
Re: Jodie –
Since day one I was one of the first to speak up that Summertime was not the song for a comeback and many people agreed. But now I appreciate it for what it is….a POP SONG. They sound great and the song is catchy. It's not award winning, but it's what the fans wanted.
As for the Today show performance. Are you really that narrow minded that you will judge this comeback on that one show? Did you not see the soaking wet stage that was dangerously slippery? Did you not hear the mic problems? Did you not realize it was before 9am? Do you ever watch other performers on the Today show? They all sound awful. But because it's NK's people give them NO slack what so ever. And forget pointing out that they did pull it together and sang the last two songs very well.
Furthermore, the New Kids on the Block are more than a music group. They are 5 guys who have given their hearts to their fans and we have given them our unconditional love back. They aren't bubble gum boys who have no mind of their own, they are men who grew up on the streets of Boston and have always had something to say…that means something to a lot of people. They helped a lot of impressionable young people stay away from bad things and I wish people would give them some credit for who they are as PEOPLE in addition to being great entertainers.
…the "comeback" stalled because we all grew up and moved on? Because they sucked to begin with? Need I go on?
FUCK YOU PEREZ
I love NKOTB. I paid $250 for front row tickets. New Kids fucking rules!
And you Perez…well, you fucking drool.
FUCK YOU PEREZ
B96 AND KISS FM BOTH PLAY IT AND IT'S A HIT!
Rain or not they are supposed to sound good. If they don't sound good regardless of it being the Today show than they have the responsibility to walk off the stage. That much is in their tour rider. They didn't sound good on the Today Show, Zootopia and Kiss 108. And no, I'm not narrow minded. If they thought the stage was too slippery and dangerous they ought have told someone they weren't comfortable singing outside. Rain hasn't a thing to do with sound quality or the lack there of.
Enough said. It's really sad that you can't have an honest debate on a message board or at NKOTB.COM. There's oversensitive people going nuts every time someone says something slightly negative about the group. It's no wonder radio programmers don't take them or you seriously. The moderators at NKOTB need to lighten up as do the posters. You all act like you're 10 versus 30-years-old.
Anyone paying for concert tickets wants the band to sound the best they can be. The guys appeared on stage three times now and not at their best. It's all been rushed. Perez and other critics agree with my assessment. Does that make me narrow minded. I thought not.
The only reason everyone is going ape about what Perez or other writers/bloggers critics have said is because they know they're all correct. They just can't admit it to themselves and try making the writers look bad for being the messenger. If they didn't tell the truth they wouldn't have a job for long. Not everyone is going to think the NKOTB are the cats meow after 20 years. Is Perez biased? No more so than any other music writer who sees it the same way.
OK, you know what? Haters are gonna be haters, nothing will change them. NKOTB can sell out concerts, sell 10 million copies of their new album, doesn't matter. The haters will still hate, especially PEREZ GAYTON. Unless of course one of them turns gay and gives it to him up the cockhole. Then he'll be whipped and will say nice things just to keep getting his precious new kid cock. But that won't happen so GAYTON and friends will be hating them forever. Get it, hating them forever.
Re: jvee – My sentiments exactly. I would have to say that the group wre a great influence on my back then because I found myself seeking out people who were fans and we became friends that way so please don't make me feel like I should question what NKOTB gave me as a child. I can certainly have an honest debate about NKOTB. I don't proclaim that NKOTB sound great but I think they're decent. I like their harmonizing. This reunion is a chance for NKOTB and their loyal fans to reconnect, a chance some of us never got. We get the chance to enjoy them one last time and say our formal goodbyes when this is all over. I don't think the reason radio stations aren't taking NKOTB seriously is because we're "oversensitive." I think the outdated backlash has followed the band because negative opinions are voiced much louder than positive. As for their concerts, artists rarely sound exactly the way they do on their records when they sing live. I actually didn't think the medley sounded very good with all those tech problems they were having but then, I know it's hard to keep your voice steady when you're dancing around. To each their own, I say. If you don't like it, that's ok. There is no need to lecture us. It's just music, guys. The band is just having fun and so are the fans.
#28, you need a good kick in the ass
They play the single on the radio here all the time. They've also sold out several shows so they've had to add new ones. Pretty impressive for a band who only released one single in the past 14 years.
The dude on the far right looks simian
actually, their single is number one on local radio countdowns where i live. and tickets are impossible to come by online–floor seats at some shows are going for as high as $2,000–and shows have been added in some areas to accomodate the demand.
they do NOT need to go away
Well DUH. I could have told them that. What ever made them think even still had a fan base? I used to be a HUGE obsessive fan of theirs when I was like 12 but I've grown up now and so has my taste in music. I'm embarassed to even admit I used to like them. I definitely don't care they're doing some reunion album or whatever. Save what money you have left and don't waste it trying to do a comeback doomed to fail. Honestly.
P.S. If you're banking on looks to try to springboard a comeback into a solo career. Don't. My taste in men has grown up too and now I wonder why ever thought any of them were even remotely hot. I doubt any of the younger crowd would even care about them and appealing to the younger set would be their only chance to make something of it. They're just too old now.
I don't HATE NKOTB. I like them but expect them to live up to certain standards when it comes to their live performances. I also know that artists sound different somewhat it concert but at least those artists can dance and sing in unison, in the proper key and in tune. Other artists also have bands that keep proper time unlike here.
The song selection, the arrangements and overall presentation hasn't been there yet. I want more out of them. Does that make me someone who hates them? I want to see them do something that knocks people on their ass. But so far I don't see any of the sparkle as well as stage presence and polish that used to be there. They need voice lessons, a better choreographer and a better backup band. Ditch the dancers as they add nothing to it.
Like with any other group I'm looking for bang for the buck and a reason to go to the concert. I have a ticket but just don't know what I'm going to get from them until that night. For me it's a curiosity thing. Someone else pointed out that anyone could have told them that there is no fan base beyond people in the chat rooms to keep this going long. I say they do the sold-out shows and ditch the rest of the tour like Spice Girls when they see nobody gives much of a shit in the music world.
The song is being played in the radios…They added new dates to their tour!!! So please!!!! They ROCK!!!!
Re: Jodie – I thought there was a mature dialogue going on here? I post on NKOTB.com, but my posts are rarely sunshine and roses. In fact, I have started a few threads stating my "disapproval" of Summertime being the first single (for mainly this reason, people won't get it). I was also the only person to bring up the question of "what if they stink?". I'm willing to admit they were a bit rocky, but I'm also open minded enough to know they were performing under crappy circumstanes. But what makes them stand apart from other music groups is the fact that they DID perform as promised and didnt let down 40000+ fans waiting in the rain. We don't expect perfection and no one else should either. You kept talking about their dance moves, so I pointed out the wet stage. You dismiss the sound problems, but it was obvious the mic's were cutting in and out. These first shows are also just the beginning. They have the entire summer to finish their music and practice for the tour. It's premature to discount them now. They were never known (or loved) for amazing vocals, but they are way better than average. And lets face it, average is a step up from what I hear on the radio these days.
Perez, you are such an idiot. You are aware that quite a few of the shows sold out in minutes, yes?
Of course you're not. If it's not Paris or Lindsay Lohan, you're out of it. Get a life, you fucking ass.
Are they really not playing this song in other cities across the US!?!?!?!!? I live in the MA/NH area and they play the song nonstop. Gotta be honest with you, it takes hearing a few times, but it seriously grows on you!! As cheesy as the lyrics are, the beats are good and it is extremely catchy! Take it listen, it's goooooood!
All the ones that are putting New Kids down are just mad be cause they all look good at their age and all of you are prob. fat or bald or look to old for your age. I think it funny perezhilton has no life because he does this shit he like to put others down because he don't want to look at him self becauses he the has been.
Perez, ur jst jealous, u cant be on stage…….hve a band, & sing really great, lke NKOTB…….Donieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee *Thud.*
ahahaha sorry I dont believe it. People are buying it, the tour is selling which is true! Well they were in the nyc/nj people are going nuts. ALso in nyc z100 they play it alot:)
They just started playing it on the radio station i listen to in Toronto… but as for their tour they had to add a second show as the first one sold out!!!
I just wanna hear old stuff
They sold out a 25 000 seat arena in Montreal and one in Toronto!!
I think the problem is that the fans are a little old for downloading songs. I don't even really know what it means to download a song. I'm waiting for the cd, and in the meantime I listen to Summertime on their Myspace for free. I'll be buying many concert tickets though. Their shows have been selling out in minutes.
"SUMMERTIME" BY MIKE KRUM IS BETTER WWW.MIKEKRUM.COM
Re: Jodie – Actually, I appreciate you making that step towards satisfying your curiosity. Most people wouldn't even bother and they wonder why their song hasn't gone higher in the charts. I would have to disagree on you that they need voice lessons though. True that some sing lead more than others but as a group, their voices, how do I put this…they fit. As for their sparkle & dancing, I never expected them to be the way they used to be and honestly, I'm sure their old concerts weren't always perfect neither. They've aged & so have the fans. With age comes wisdom. We know what our bodies are capable of and obviously, it's safety first. There was a large part of me at the Today Show that was quite worried about them dancing on a stage that had to be squeegied to get the water off. What they did for that concert was the result of only a few months of work but I applaud them because I'm sure it wasn't easy to pull off in such a short time. Just the fact that they are together satisfied my curiosity. I hope you enjoy the concert when you go. I hope you bring an open mind. I hope you get the chance to meet at least one of them someday. NKOTB & the fans are enjoying the hell out of this reunion and it shows.
They need to go away!!!! Their time was up a LONG TIME AGO! They still kinda look hot….some of them anyways….
What about 'CLICK CLICK CLICK', the song they got from NASRI?
Been addicted to it for almost 7 months now!
I haven't heard their version of the song yet, but a lot of people love it. Nasri's version is INCREDIBLE, mindblowing. Don't think they can top it for ME
PEREZ…..shut the *&#% up, you're getting on my nerves. Don't talk about NKOTB, unless you have something nice to say. You kiss ass one moment, and the next you crap on people. What the hell is your problem?
hey perez, why are you being a hater?? i thought you liked nkotb…you dont have to say something stupid and nasty about everyone just to get readers. you say alot of things about people who deserve it and they dont. ask anyone who has met or worked with them, they are great guys. stop being a douche.
i dont think you should be ranking on them…you make your living by talking about people more famous than you on a website with a pink background. i do acutally like you but you are being a fucktard. you know you listen to that song in your room and imagine joey touching your body all soaking wet…
Just have to say…Donnie fucking Wahlberg…..Praise the D
Perez is just sad , cuz he cant fuck them.
Re: Jodie –
Hmm…thats what everyone does. Justin Timberlake sounds like a cat being raped live…and studio cuts sound like a nice young girl.
Re: Drea –
its a song about thinking back to being a teenager..listen before you say dumb shit
NKOTB then or now are big… doesn't matter what anyone says… they stil Rockit and the fans will support them no matter what.. Haters be Haters… they still are bombass! "summertime" is a catchy NKOTB Nostalgia and if you liked them then you will like what they come out with now!!!!
Support the Guys!! Beware haters.. NKOTB fans are everywhere in droves…hordes….flocks…..by the mulittude… 5,000 fans showed up for the Today Show…. damn and that was just a 20 minute show… what is to happen next!!!!!!!!!!!!
NKOTB ROCKIN' LIKE NO OTHER…
HATERS BEWARE!!!!!!!
Perez is right when it comes to the music industry all they care about is amount of downloads and sales through online and retail that are accurately measured by barcodes etc. by Soundscan. 62,000 paid downloads is considered to be a large failure from the way the industry measures success. So, what he's reporting isn't biased. He's going on the numbers and how success in that biz is usually measured.
He's also not being critical by saying their song is not in the top 50 when the expectation by him and others was that it should be. Also, a lot of shows aren't sold-out but some are. He may be going by numbers and other figures that suggest they aren't doing well or threads about Montreal for instance.
He may just be a fan who wanted more out of them and is questioning whether all's right with the reunion. I don't see anything above to get angry about. BTW, I've seen NKOTB at the height of their success in concert versus what I'm seeing on TV now. It needs to get better. I know it can by September even if Perez doesn't
I didn't like NKOTB then and I dont like them now, besides since when are they NEW kids, they are more like " New Farts in the Circle
ha ha ha
Re: Jodie –
They may not have been important to YOU or OTHERS, but To MANY, they were. We, the fans, are who they are doing this for.
You go NKOTB, sold out here in Chicago, can't even get a nose bleed section. Need to add a 2nd show here in Chi-town. You guys rock and the world knows it that is why they are being trashed.
Re: Ava – you are awesome!! lol….perez is an immature, self loathing sad human.
Perrreeezzzzzzz!!!! You know you love you some Donnie!! YUMMMMM!!!
How can you say that the song is "stalled"? Its all over the radio, TV, and the internet. Im a fan and I am going to a few shows, at least the ones that HAVENT SOLD OUT YET! If you call that bad, I wonder what you think good is?
