As you (hopefully) already know, earlier this month - on May 12th - a deadly earthquake hit China's southwest Sichuan province.
The tragedy left almost 88,000 people missing or dead, with estimates that nearly 70,000 people were killed.
Then just a week later at the Cannes Film Festival, Sharon Stone said something that has sparked controversy worldwide.
She blamed the Chinese for getting the earthquake, due to their bad karma!
WTF?!?!
Stone said, "I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma — when you're not nice that the bad things happen to you?"
The remarks have caused uproars in China.
They have already promised to boycott her and her films.
Of course, after the bad press, Stone has apologized for suggesting the earthquake came due to their bad karma. And to try and do good, she's offered to help with the relief efforts and cleanup.
Stone says, "My erroneous words and deeds angered and saddened the Chinese people, and I sincerely apologise for this. I'm willing to participate in any earthquake relief activity and to do my utmost to help Chinese people affected by the disaster."

Sharon is totally entitlted to her opinion. However, the Tibet-Chinese control is the same as the US taking the Native American lands, no? And the Phillippines. How about Iraq?
She's right! Also, do you really think she's worried about being boycotted in China? I would hope NOT. She just said something that an awful lot of us were thinking. I'm sure a number of people thought the same thing about Katrina, too. Its just too bad that the real victims in both cases are the people who couldn't give two shits about the global politics and just want to live their small, narrow, uninformed, uneducated lives.

You guys should really read up on history before you post. Most of the news presented in America is fltered. And even if some of the things that the Chinese are doing in Tibet are real, do the people of China control it? The answer is no. The government controls it. Therefore you cant say its Karma. The earthquake was a natural disaster, 911 was not a natural disaster - so therefore can you say 911 is karma? Do you think that in Iraq no innocent people died because of Americans? Do you think really that the Iraq war helped the civilians? Will there be Karma because the US is being unkind? That's purely idiotic to me. Sharon Stone should really get a decent education before she goes around pissing everyone off. Without China (more than 1/6 of the worlds population), helping the world in the trade/manufacturing and international business markets, the US would NOT be prosperous. And don't say the Chinese are taking most of the manufacturing jobs, without market competition there is no room for technological growth and the lowering of costs. PLEASE read up on history before you say "FREE TIBET". Tibet was always a part of the China dynasty. Are you sure that they would be better off if they became independent?

Perez-sometimes your immaturity really shines! I think what she said was brave! When a country as a whole has caused pain and destruction as China has something devistating is gonna happen. I feel really sad for the pain and suffering of all the innocent people and what their going through though. Burma and China right now are in the spotlight-interesting stuff. It's not easy make sure all your people are fed/clothed/sheltered. Where else would you have a government that will feed you, cloth you, put your children through school… all for free?

Sharon Stone's comment was directed towards the CHINESE GOVERNMENT's treatment of the Tibetan people and the severe human rights violation. 1.2 million of a total population of 6 million tibetans have been killed and tortured since the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959. However, I believe that the CHINESE PEOPLE have misinterpreted her message and believe it to be an attack on their people.
The same confusion appears in debates about the Olympics. Human rights activists believe in boycotting the Beijing Olympics because of the repressive Chinese government but the Chinese people themselves believe it to be an attack on their country and culture. The Chinese government is quite happy about this confusion because it unites their country men against the 'evil west'

When I moved abroad, I was saddened to learn that Americans are viewed rather poorly in the world. I am not an American and I stand up for you. Why? Because I recognize this dislike stems from ignorance. Not all Americans are responsible or should be blamed for decisions made by your President. I refuse to label Americans in a poor light simply because I don't agree with the administration's foreign policy. This is not conducive to establishing a peaceful global order.
This point holds true for what is happening in China. You have been through similar tragedies with Hurricane K. Would you want your fellow global citizens to say you deserved it simply because your president has made decisions they don't agree with? No human being would. Wow this is ridiculous. Way to being misinformed! If anyone looked on the map, Sichuan province is right next to Tibet. And many Tibetans died in this earthquake. So if her words were twisted around, it would seem as if it's karma for the Tibetans also for their violent riots.
