The New Hobbit Is…?

To all of you Lord of the Rings fans, reports are surfacing that the new prequel movie they are working on, The Hobbit, might have found its star.
Said to take the lead role of hobbit Bilbo Baggins is Scottish actor James McAvoy.
The J.R.R. Tolkien novel is hoping to be the next blockbuster big hit and will be directed by Guillermo del Toro.
The film is scheduled to begin filming later this year in New Zealand.
Also returning to the prequel will be Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf.
In regards to choosing the main lead, an inside source says, “A number of names have been doing the rounds, including Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black, but James [McAvoy] is the one the film's bosses really want. They're expected to have talks soon so hopefully it could be confirmed in the not too distant future."
As for director del Toro, he adds, “I can tell you it's down to a few names that we all agree upon. For our first choice, completely magically we all have the same name."
We’d prefer to have seen Daniel Radcliffe, but we doubt they’d pay him as much as he’d probably ask for.

I also think James McEvoy is the perfect choice. Not only is he a great actor but he also looks the part! Jack Black is too comedic and Daniel Radcliffe is too closely tied to the Harry Potter movies to pull off a role in Lord of the Rings.

comming from a person who had read the book, James would be awesome in that role. He could totally pull it off. Radcliffe is too young and should stick to Harry Potter, and Jack Black isn't enough of a serious actor to do it.
but Bilbo was middle-aged in the book…. these are all young pretty boys… except Jack Black, but unless he can carry off a good accent I wouldnt want to see that…

Dan Radcliffe needs to establish himself as an adult actor who can do more than play Harry Potter . Showing your private parts in a crappy play wont do it either. Radclifffe needs to learn how to act before he asks for the big bucks. He and the Potter kids will be washed up child stars in a few years
Alas Daniel Radcliffe can´t act, even if he is famous because of Harry Potter.James McAvoy on the other hand is a damm good actor, to even compare him with Radcliffe is an insult to McAvoy!
Being the huge Tolkien fan i am, i have never considered Bilbo remotely sexy, but with James portraying him my feelings would be reversed, i love him, it's a wonderful idea!!

I wonder how many of these people posting comments have actually read "The Hobbit" and are familiar with the character of Bilbo Baggins. I do think that James will be great for the role, but please, people, don't assume that he'll do a good job just because he's cute or a good actor. Just sayin'.

I love that actor he was amazing in the last king of scotland. what a great choice. what made lord of the rings so amazing though was all the hotties. any chance of vigo and orlando being in the hobbit. that would be amazing.
I know he isn't the most classically handsome man but there is something about him that heterosexual women love. His love scene in Attonement was unbelievalbe.

I LOVE HIM!! he is an excellent actor. He was "Mr. Tumnus", the Faun in "The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe". I would see anything he was acting in.
