I also agree that the comments that she made in the article that you posted right before you started calling her "don't call me Latina" Alba, were very hurtful. I also think that the way that you constantly put her down doesn't help the situation. Being ostracized by her "own people" is part of what she talked about when she said she didn't "feel" Latina. If you really want her to "take pride in where she came from", how about treating her with some COMPASSION? Show her that she is still a loved member of the community, even though she has bought into the false idea that white is somehow better than brown. That is the only possible way that she may change. If Portuguese, Japanese, etc. were more widely used it would make sense.

First of all, as far as I'm concerned NO ONE has responded to Clinto's message which was an entirely irrelevant, arrogant, and uninformed comment to make. Obama might not be everyone's cup of tea (I'll be honest, I don't think I would vote for him given the opportunity) but, I wouldn't go so far as to call him an evil terrorist.

Why should Jessica Alba fit into a prescribed box of what it means to be latina? Culture is essentially a series of experiences (very personal ones) no two are identical but it most certainly is not a racial identity. Her experience is distinct and it is considered a more traditional American upbringing versus making posole with her abuelita. She has never said she is not latina just that cultural upbringing was not typically hispanic. Stop defining what she should be Perez especially since there are numerous stereotypes about being a Gay American. Remember speaking spanish is not the identification card for being hispanic. Learning English would enable them to transition into our society quickly. It is insulting to most true Americans, who have lived in places all of their lives, for one culture "Latino" to expect Spanish to be spoken everywhere so that they can feel at home. No other immigrant group does this here and if they do, it is not supported. Furthermore, a group consisting largely of illegal immigrants should never try to force their language and their presence on the legal citizens because it doesn't endear them at all. It creates dissension amongst the many cultural groups we have in the country.
