"I Lied - Get Over It!"

Back when news of Ashlee Wentz's pregnancy first broke, the Simpson camp - being the media pros that they are - remained mum about the baby chatter.
Pete Wentz, on the other hand, went so far as to DENY that Ass was pregnant.
Now, he explains to MTV News why he was dishonest with his fans and the media.
Says the dad-to-be:
"Every woman, no matter who they are or what they do for a living, has the right to wait at least 3 months before sharing this very personal news," he wrote. "We wanted to wait until after the first trimester and get a clean bill of health from our doctors before confirming anything, just like any other couple.
Being a boy I have no idea how to respond to such things and my first instinct was to protect her and the baby.
It's insane that you can't let happy news brew in Hollywood. This wasn't about press or anything. It was about the health of the baby and trying to find a way to be happy with what should be the most happy time of our lives in the middle of a press blitz. I apologize to anyone who felt misinformed but the truth is, the person and growing baby is who I felt most loyal to protect and defend."

I think it was noble that he lied. It really isn't anyone's business and the fact that he wanted to protect Ashlee says a lot about who he is. He did the right thing. What a good man.
I am NO fan of Ashlee or however you spell it, ever since that "kiss my sneaker" (for an autograph) comment to a fan, she is on my shit list (Like she cares) but regardless, she is an annoying, talentless, riding-on-her-sisters talentless-coattails little bitch. BUT, I think her first husband is right, the biggest msitake I ever made was blabbing to my family and friends about my 5 1/2 week pregnancy, only to miscarry two days later. I should have kept my trap shut and I wouldnt have had to endure "untelling" everyone and the pity that came along with it.
What? Why is his even an issue? It's nobody's fucking business. What kind of pathetic loser would actually be mad about that?
Most expecting moms, myself included, will tell you that its safest to wait until the 12 week mark because then the risk of miscarriage drops substantially Miscarriage is more common than people think Its had enough to loose a baby, but then to have to explain it to the press, your fans, ughhh..that would be devastating
I dont think they did anything wrong by lying, you say what you have to say to make yourself comfortable those first crucial weeks.

miscarriages , well most of them happen in the first 3 months. Women usually dont tell any one shes pregnant untill the 2nd trimester. why does it matter its there business
He did the right thing. Miscarriages happen in the first trimester and it is always front page news in the tabloids.
He was fine to just say, "No comment," instead of creating drama when he told MTV that the story was a blatant lie or whatever crap he said. All parents, famous or not, should wait three months - but the fact that he "baited" the press with grandiose statements makes it seem like he was intentionally messing with the press. "No comment" would've been sufficient.
I don't think it really matters, they have a right as parents to be - to decide when they want to reveal the pregnancy.

Of course he was right. They deserve privacy. Pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, can be really fragile. Every woman should have the right to not make it public until after the crucial 12 week scan. They are no different. Everyone knows saying nothing amounts to admiting. The boy was put under pressure. He had to lie. He did the right thing.

I think Pete is 100% right! One of my close friends told EVERYONE the moment she got preggo and then a month later she suffered a miscarriage that was even more painful due to the fact that she had to tell everyone the baby was gone. Also, Lily Allen had a horrible time when this happened to her. Besides, celebrities aren't obliged to say anything if they don't want too!

I think they did the right thing. I've miscarried before and it is SO heartbreaking to have to go back and tell people that you've lost the baby.

I understand not wanting to tell anyone until after the first trimester - but obviously they told someone or it wouldn't have leaked to the press in the first place. Both times I was pregnant I told everyone right away, why hide it, or lie? There were just more people praying for me and there to help if any problems arose.

Good thing he lied. The first 3 months is really vulnerable. If she was ever too stressed out about anything then she could have risk loosing the baby. So I'm ok with it. Atleast he had a good reason plus its his baby. Hes taking care of it not the press.

I don't understand why two such young people were so concerned about the health of their first baby. Did one of them (perhaps) ingest tons of illegal substances before making this baby…hence the 'health concern?' Asslee was probably just waiting for the results of her amniocentesis to decided whether or abort or not.

he's 100% right. the miscarriage rate drops significantly after the first trimester. so why not wait until you have a smaller chance of having to distribute bad news?
i've had 5 miscarriages and trust me, breaking the news and hearing condolences over and over again just hurts more.
I think it's totally understandable that they would want to keep that information to themselves during the first trimester, but I'm more concerned that he's married and expecting a baby and he still refers to himself as "a boy."

He's sweet. I'm sure its hard to remain quiet when you have different people asking you the same damn questions over and over again. I'm glad he lied for the comfort of his lady and who said they owe anybody (besides each other) anything anyway.
Lying is understandable-but the way he lied by calling her pregnancy a "witch-hunt" was stupid. And- yeah- it does look like they rushed to get married because she was knocked up.

Who cares if he lies, isn't that really what the media wants anyway? If I were him I'd make things up on a daily basis (about myself or perhaps my relationships). Isn't that half of the point to being a celeberty; being something you're not?
Are people seriously upset that Pete Wentz lied in response to a question that should never have been asked? (Well, maybe asked is OK, but not pushed and an answer demanded.) The public has the "right" to know when the next Fall Out Boy album is being released. We have the "right" to know if Ashley Simpson will tour in support of her new album. But we do not have the right to know the details of their wedding and baby plans! If they want to share, great, but it is over the line to expect such information.
Pete did the right thing. These people maybe famous and rich but they're still human. He did the right thing. I would've done it to.
I believe he was keeping it quiet because doctors do tell you to keep quiet until after the first trimester due to the fact that there are high possibilities that you can lose the baby during that time.

The lie wasn't malicious, it was what he thought was the right thing to do and all he wanted to do was protect the people he loves. People shouldn't be asking such personal questions. It's up to the person to tell the public what they want and people shouldn't be trying to drag something so personal out of people when they clearly don't wanna talk about it. Just because they are famous why should everyone have a right to know their business?
Other famous people have told bigger and worse lies.
And if any of Pete's fans are pissed then they clearly aren't that good a fan.

They have a right to keep things private until their sure things are ok, but he shouldn't have lied about it. He should have kept quiet, but he didn't because they want the press. That's just the nature of their business. They need the press to survive whether they like it or not.
i learned my lesson by telling everyone i was pregnant before 3 months and then i had to tell everyone i miscarried was really hard for me to do.. even months later people asked how my baby was doing. After 3 months the risk goes down so then it's safe to say the baby will be alright- in most cases.
I think he lied because he had to. I knew that if she was pregnant they probably wanted to wait for the 3 month mark. That is what most women do. You wait for everythign to be okay and then you tell family and friends.
I think it is ridiculous that people were making such a big deal out of it. They are still people and deserve privacy. Let them confirm when the time is right.

First sensible thing I've heard out a celebrity's mouth in a while. Do you have any idea how many pregnancies are miscarried in the first 3 months? Many couples don't tell their friends, let alone strangers, and saying "nothing" is implicitly confirming the rumors.

i don't think it's a matter of lying versus keeping their mouth shut. i simply think they chose to do what they thought was right. it's not uncommon at all to wait three months before telling people about a pregnancy because the first three months are the most unsure and that's when a miscarriage can most likely occur.
I can understand him denying it. An early pregancy is very personal and to be shared with close family members and close friends. The media has no right trying to extort a definitive answer from them regarding their most happy condition. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of people who post on these sites, myself included, don't have much of a life and need to be a little bit more understanding that the Petes and Ashleys of the world are just very normal, common people, just like the rest of us. To be perfectly honest I find it to be so odd that they even spoke out about it, considering everyone else already knew that she was pregnant. I mean, he should have told the truth, because it would have been, yet again, just a small section in the couples section in People magazine. She's pregnant, and to continuously lie about it isn't honorable, but I do see the point in keeping it a secret. You don't want her to get stressed out. I mean it's cool he's with her, but please show a little dignity and respect. It just makes me lose a little respect in him, knowing that the guy who has changed a lot, has to lie. People should be happy with his decision no matter what, and I don't care what anybody says, and apparently he does enough. But the sad thing is, is that he mentioned nothing about it being for Ashlee's health, because that should also be a careful consideration. But who really cares? It's traditional to wait until the first trimester is over. It's supposedly bad luck for all the reasons the other readers mentioned. Especially after what happened with Lily Allen and then Nicole Kidman mentioning her ectopic pregnancy, I started to wonder how many "baby bumps" and rumors were actually a source of great sorrow to these stars that get dragged through the tabs every day. No person, even a celebrity should be obligated to reveal such a personal bit of news against their own judgment, no matter what the reason.

I think he was right to lie. He was trying to take some pressure off of the pregnant Ashlee and her baby. Plus, there is always the possibility of a miscarriage in the firt trimester. Look at what happened to Lilly Allen and all the invasive attention she got after the media found out she had a miscarriage. Congrats to the newlyweds and parents-to-be. You don't owe anything to the media, instead, it is the baby and its safety that is the most important thing.
Remember, they announced the pregnancy on foe when she was just 1 month along…then have spent the past few months denying or lying…yeah, who cares if anyone tells a stupid lie, but don't deny that it was all about publicity and shameless self promotion. Just like every other thing pretty much every "famous" person does.

As someone who has had at least 5 miscarriages I think what Pete did was 100% the right thing, there is nothing worse the suffering one. He was protecting his wife and his child. What is so wrong with that? It's nobody's business if she's pregnant until they are ready to let people know. That's the problem with these gossip sites, they push the stars to release information before they are ready. When the stars are ready to let people know, they will let everyone know. I say good for you Pete and Ashlee, I wish you nothing but the best and I hope that your child is born happy and healthy! You deserve it! Just ignore all the naysayers
Good for him. Pregnancy is a very special time for a couple and that doesn't change just because they happen to be in the public eye. I think it shows great character on his part to want to protect Ashlee and their unborn child from the public. That actually raises him up a notch in my book. Seems to me he's got his priorities straight. Ashlee may have found herself a good guy in Pete. I wish them both well.
He shouldn't have lied…he shouldn't have stayed quiet, either, actually…if he wanted the happy news to just "brew," he should have told the truth, THEN kept his mouth quiet.
What Pete did wasn't wrong, exactly…but it wasn't honest either. He could have taken the same road as the Simpson's and just kept mum. Of course some folks take 'no comment' as a yes. So I can see where telling a lie would buy him some time to ensure his family was protected. I think it is very admirable that he wanted to protect the health of the child and wait 3 months. soo many times we see pregnancies end early and it is heartbreaking, to have to go thru that in public would be awful….go pete, u rock
