Back when news of Ashlee Wentz's pregnancy first broke, the Simpson camp - being the media pros that they are - remained mum about the baby chatter.
Pete Wentz, on the other hand, went so far as to DENY that Ass was pregnant.
Now, he explains to MTV News why he was dishonest with his fans and the media.
Says the dad-to-be:
"Every woman, no matter who they are or what they do for a living, has the right to wait at least 3 months before sharing this very personal news," he wrote. "We wanted to wait until after the first trimester and get a clean bill of health from our doctors before confirming anything, just like any other couple.
Being a boy I have no idea how to respond to such things and my first instinct was to protect her and the baby.
It's insane that you can't let happy news brew in Hollywood. This wasn't about press or anything. It was about the health of the baby and trying to find a way to be happy with what should be the most happy time of our lives in the middle of a press blitz. I apologize to anyone who felt misinformed but the truth is, the person and growing baby is who I felt most loyal to protect and defend."

He is absolutely correct and within his personal rights to protect his wife and baby. The paps are vultures and pounce at the first hint of blood. He was in a Catch-22. You can't remain silent in Hollywood so you have to sidestep the issue (as Ashley did quite a bit) or lie to protect your family!

you should have kept mum. The first trimester is the most dangerous part of a pregnancy, and it's best to keep the news to just family and close friends in case there is a miscarriage. A miscarriage is common early in the pregnancy, but is a very difficult thing to go through. It should have remained private!

I think it's funny that you even ask the question…the pregnancy is no one's business but theirs, they don't owe anyone the truth about it.

they should have kept denying everything for the whole nine months, and they should keep denying it even when the baby bump is clearly visible like jolie's baby bump, then when the baby was born, they should tell the media "we really had no idea ashlee was pregnant! this is so sudden!"

I think he did the right thing. It's good that he wanted to wait until they were 100% sure that Ashlee was pregent. Any guy in his position probably would have done the same thing. He cares about Ashlee and his baby's well being the most.

I think he should've just stayed quiet. I agree that he has a right to confirm/deny when he is ready, but FOB has always prided themselves in being a 100% honest and upfront band. If he wanted to make any comment at all about it, it should've been the truth and if he wasn't ready to share the truth, he should've kept his fingers off the keyboard.
I'm sure there are dumber stories out there, but "WOW" Pete Wentz actually felt the need to set the record straight about "lying" about whether or not he and Ashlee Simpson were expecting. He lied and people give a crap that he lied? Anyone who feels betrayed by Pete Wentz saying that he and Ashlee weren't expecting when they were expecting needs to re-boot their moral compass.

As a mom of two I don't get the fucking big deal that people have to wait to share the news. If you miscarry you're going to tell people anyway since you'll need/want the support. You don't find out if you're having a "non healthy baby" until about week 20 or so anyway… so people will know you're pregnant by then!!!! If one decides to abort her non-healthy fetus that usually happens between weeks 18 and 22… so once again, the news will be out.
This "I'm less than 12 weeks pregnant so I'm gonna keep it a secret to protect ourselves" is a load of crap.
You're either pregnant or your not… why lie… why wait. I never got that. And moreso, I don't get why the Hollywood herd tries to cover it up more… like they're so fucking special.
Say what you want about the guy but he was right and she's got a good guy. Anyone - no matter how healthy can have a miscarriage. It's bad enough to have to tell family & friends if that happens but the mass public? And yes ordinary people keep quiet until 3 mos. I'm glad I did. I only had to explain to a few people that I had a miscarriage - not the whole freakin world. It's not something you want to talk about over and over. Good for them. I hope everything goes well.

I think hes going to make an awesome dad because of this and hes right it was easier to answer no then to give an explanation. They did the right thing too about keeping it mum until the first trimester is over because chance of having a miscarriage drop to 3% after the firs trimester and there doctor probably recommended to wait. Why is it such a big deal J.lo didnt say anythign and her reps kept denying it until she was already 7 months pregnant and she finally said it her self

Were you going to be there to personally support Ashlee, God forbid, if something had happened to that baby after an announcement? In talking about your own personal experience while insightful does not really apply to a celebrity status in terms of pregnancy. These people are not left alone even when tragedy hits them. They are certainly not better than us but they are special in that they are dogged every single moment about their personal life. For you to deny that would be ridiculous as you are on this very public site reading about and judging their actions. As a mother of two, I would also hope you keep the schoolyard behaviour to a minium "ugly to boot"? You could be attending school with children with insults like that. Very parent like.

I think Pete did the right thing as a father! There is a lot less risk after the third trimester. I made the mistake of telling people of my pregnancy 7 weeks in, only to miscarry a week later. Pete and ASHlee have the rght to their privacy. They were only protecting their family.

i think they had every right to do what they did and wait until the baby was given the all clear because what if they just found out and told everyone and then lost it?…I think Lily Allen comes to mind here and at least pete apologised for lying..the media need to stop being so harsh on them and let them enjoy this hapy time in their life.I waited until i was 3 months to tell everyone when i was pregnant with my son.. A lot of people don't even tell their own families until after the first trimester. That is the most dangerous time during a pregnancy for a miscarriage and it just makes more sense to some people to keep it on the hush rather than have to sadly explain a miscarriage when people inquire about the pregnancy later.
Regardless of that they do have a right to their privacy. Of course he was correct in keeping it secret…they could have kept it a "secret" even if she was clearly 9 months pregnant…shit they could even have the baby then deny it exists…it is not the public's right to know!!
AWHHH I freakin love Pete Wentz. THAT is chivalry right there, WHAT a gentleman!! Respecting his lady & unborn child. THAT is most important, not fame, not media, not your fans that don't even know you personally- FAMILY is most important. It doesn't matter whether he lied or not, it was the right thing at the time, and atleast he's ADMITTING to it, instead of saying something like "well uhhh I wasn't sure at the time and uhhh …" like so many celebs today. I hate that little Hobbit Pete Wentz. They think people are stupid, but it's a proven fact that if you build suspense, it makes people even more curious to a point where they bug you and bug you till you cave in. That just shows what kinda parents they are going to be, a sack of liars. Ashlee used the Joe Simpson approach, which is to pimp the non-born kid to sell records. That didn't work, nor is her concert since it's post poned. Hiding the obvious to your fans is insulting, and I hope nothing but the worst for them.

He didn't do a thing wrong. I waited until I was 12 weeks along to tell everyone for that exact same reason, and I lied a couple of times about it. Granted, I am not a public figure but it's the same shit. If anything, that gives Pete and Ashlee more of a reason to lie. he has a point, too. Its such a shame they couldn't just sit back and enjoy such happy news. Anyway, he should not have to answer to anyone for lying about this. He was totally within his right to do so.

There's a HUGE misconception that making it through the first trimester means a healthy, full-term pregnancy. I made it to 15 weeks - right past my 1st trimester and into my second when I miscarried. It happens and no matter how long you wait to announce a pregnancy, things still can go wrong. Everyone knew she was pregnant. I don't understand his need to lie about it. He should have just kept his mouth shut and not said anything.
We get to thinking, as we read these gossip colums, that we have a right to know about celebrities' personal affairs. To be fair, the only responsibility celebrities have to their fans is to work hard to entertain–be it singing, acting, or being a top performer in their sport. Beyond that, we have no claim on their personal lives. I respect people like Christina Aguilera for realizing this and refusing to give in to the pressure the media lays on them. Mind your own business and at least give these people the respect they deserve for providing endless hours of entertainment. We do not own these people, and sometimes it seems we forget that they are real people living real lives.
