All of that eats away at inner city schools funding. The "it's cool to be a thug" mentality makes the school a dangerous place. to the woman who doesn't want her kid near me, i dont want to be around your kid. i teach my students the truth. that without education they will be stuck in low paying jobs unless they are willing to sell their souls, bodies, and or drugs. i have no choice in which school my school partners with, the exchange also teaches white kids that they have the best and these kids are expected to compete with them when they do no have equal resources. i think it promoted white supremacy. when they grow up and become politicians, they forget what they have seen, the inequality. i dont know why so many blacks are unemployed because i have been since i was 19 and both of my parents were educated and gainfully employed. but i beleive it has a lot to do with the fact that every business in the hood is foreign owned and staffed. if they get educated they have to compete with people who are better prepared. my students don't even have books to take home, we have what is called a class set of books. did your azz have a book to takee home, i bet you did. i just spent $140 at staples printing chapters so they take home the chapter we were working on.

And the racism that is still going on is more from "BLACK" people then "white". It's even being preached about and taught in the churches that have mainly "BLACK" people attending. So to try to tell a "white" person they have no room to talk is saying a "BLACK" person has no room talk either. You don't see "white" people making racist pictures or videos or speeches.
I am so tired of hearing this crap! I am a black man, i will start off by saying that a lot of these arguments are just flat out wrong. First of all beyond for those complaining, about blacks having special things, like black history month, BET, and scholarships, EVERY other minority has their months, channels, and scholarships too but they are just not as publicized, and that is a product of the media, not black people! Haven't you heard of telemundo? (Nothing at all against the latina's because i watch telemundo all the time. It is very interesting stuff even thought i dont know what the hell that they are saying). But Tiffan, i know that where you are trying to come from but i disagree with you regarding slavery. I nor my parents or grandparents have never been slaves. My personal feeling is there are two things that fuck black people over in this country and SLAVERY is neither one.
Number 1 is JIM CROW. This is what set black people behind. We know that separate but equal was a farce and how it turned out. And that is why i have hard feelings at times. My parents and grandparents LIVED jim crow. And there are A LOT of black people alive today who have LIVED jim crow. AND jim crow was not a pretty period for black america. The race riots, blacks getting killed and buried in mass graves, the lynchings, the hangings. So for those screaming get over it what do you tell these people who watched their friends, get beaten or killed during the jim crow period? What the hell do you tell my dad who has a bullet wound on his chest from a race riot in the 1950's? What do you think the shit still wasn't happening as late as the 1950's? Pick up a book find out the truth no matter what race you are. You wanna tell him to get over it. What do you tell my mom's cousin, who had to pull her dad's carcass down from a fuckin tree after he got lynced. You want her to get over it?
Re: tiffan – Tell me, how many violent crimes are committed at your school? How much vandalization is there? How much theft? Do you have security guards and metal detectors? All of that eats away at inner city schools funding. The "it's cool to be a thug" mentality makes the school a dangerous place. They destroy things so instead of being able to build upon each years new purchases, they have to replace the same things over and over again. That's not our fault. You can not blame white people for black kids wanting to be thugs. And it is because of that mentality that the "best teachers" refuse to work at inner city schools. You're rite, they are the best. They have the choice to work where they want to so why would they pick a place where the kids don't want to learn? Where all they want to do is be "gangsta" and "cool" when they can pick a place where the kids are respectful and want to be there? Think about it. Would you rather work at a place where you can get assaulted for scolding a kid or a place where you have more free money in the budget to do more for your kids? That is why "our" schools are so much better. It has nothing to do with black vs white but has everything to do with respect. I do commend you for sticking with the inner city kids though.
Number 2 is the fact that we as black people are great at fucking ourselves! Look what happened to us esp during JIM CROW was WRONG! The government knows that it was wrong but THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO SHIT! For the love of god gas is, if you are luck $4.00 a fucking gallon. They dont even give a shit about white people. So why are us black people waiting on others to fix our problems. We must fix our problems internally! That means to open up our own businesses in our own communities, and not fucking rob them, or bullshit our employees. Those who make need to go into those communties and help out, while at the same time those who need help need to quit fucking alienating those who make it. Put the glass of haterade down and back the fuck away! Black people if we quit fucking ourselves, things will eventually get better, but we have to make a commitment to ourselves!

And even though slaves were emanicipated in the late 1800s, that didn't make the problem go away. Remember Rosa Parks–that was the 1960's, only 40 something odd years ago. I learned and/or heard these same types of stories about American history all throughout school, and college. Yes I did go to college, and surprise, I got two degrees–English and History. But I regress, even though I did hear this stuff, and I absorbed it, it didn't make me feel guilty, it didn't make me racist. I just learned from it. If anything that I may say seems racist, it is because I am a product of my environment, as are we all. I speak what I live, I live what I speak. Nothing that I say or believe is based on history…moreso from factual experiences that I have experienced throughout my life. As for you, life is too short to hold on to some misplaced guilt. Give it up, you'll feel better. Trust me.

I totally understand where you are coming from and it's good to see that a African-American doesn't mind if "white people" having culture clubs and organizations like anyone else. But where I live it's been tried, and before it could even get up and running it was shut down by a group of people that heard about it and called it racist with out even going to see what it was all about. And yes it would have welcomed everyone. I just would like to see that everyone could move forward past racism and be qual in everyway. Not one having more rights or special treatment then the other. I would like to see that everyone could get scholarships not because of race but because of other reasonings, and ect…. I get sick and tired of blacks referencing slavery all the time. Maybe artists of Irish extraction should have albums titled "Irish need not apply" or have pictures of emaciated people on the album cover. But no, the Irish rose above all that. I don't think any person of African descent in their right might is neither explicity nor implicity blaming slavery for the shortcomings of African Americans. Instead, many of the posts on here seem to be echoing similar sentiments and that is that inherent inequality and mounting tension still exists where race is concerned. Most people are too busy being hyperbolic (exaggerative) and histrionic (dramatic) to really "get" this point. Blacks, coloreds, African Americans (whatever the PC term is today) are looking to lay blame. Let me break it down: when you have a friend who has wrong you, you don't want to hear "I did blah, blah, blah, but so what–get over it." No, instead, you want to hear something like "I 'get' how you feel" or "I see how that affected you." So the same goes for African Americans. It's not that we want to point fingers or say that any White person living today is somehow the reason that Blacks were ever enslaved. We just want you get 'get' that there is still inequality. Yes, in 2008, this inequality may have more to do with SES that it does race, nonetheless, it exists.
