Is NAS remaking "Roots"? This image isn't original or provocative. There is no doubt that Nas is talented and intelligent, but this imagery has been seen before over and over again. If his intention is to stir people up, or to wake them up or educate them, then he really should have produced something that hasn't been rehashed in film and print for decades.
It may be hard for some people to believe (especially white folks from up north), but racism is still very much alive. Take a look at West Virginia. Some people there honestly believe Barack Obama is a terrorist because his last name sounds like Osama, let alone vote for him because he's black.

First of all, anyone with common sense KNOWS that all in all the higher gas prices are GOOD for us. Why, you ask? People will gain some actual intellect and instead of driving cars that get 16 miles per gallon, they will drive better cars. People will work towards better things like different fuel for cars, with diesel getting higher, and public transportation will be forced to improve, there are many things that cold be improved by it, it is OVERALL GOOD.

Growing up out west and moving to the south, my opinions on race have definitely changed, I used to think like many of you, that slavery, segregation, etc were SO long ago and those things did not matter today, but I think it depends on what part of the country you are in. Sadly people are so quick to point to the finger at others, instead of looking at themselves and taking responsibilty for their actions. I believe in pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and not blaming others for your situation, but I now also believe that there are many people that treat others unfairly based on the color of their skin. And in America because there is freedom of speech, Nas, has the right to express himself in this manner, and we have the right to discuss it, agree or disagree. I have to say I am offended by the people that assume that blacks are all on welfare, etc.. everyone of my friends, my husband, and I are all college educated and hard working people. If more people involved in this discussion had open minds and a diverse groups of people around them, the comments would not be so ONE-SIDED.

Is NAS remaking "Roots"? This image isn't original or provocative. There is no doubt that Nas is talented and intelligent, but this imagery has been seen before over and over again. If his intention is to stir people up, or to wake them up or educate them, then he really should have produced something that hasn't been rehashed in film and print for decades.

Growing up out west and moving to the south, my opinions on race have definitely changed, I used to think like many of you, that slavery, segregation, etc were SO long ago and those things did not matter today, but I think it depends on what part of the country you are in. Sadly people are so quick to point to the finger at others, instead of looking at themselves and taking responsibilty for their actions. I believe in pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and not blaming others for your situation, but I now also believe that there are many people that treat others unfairly based on the color of their skin. And in America because there is freedom of speech, Nas, has the right to express himself in this manner, and we have the right to discuss it, agree or disagree. I have to say I am offended by the people that assume that blacks are all on welfare, etc.. everyone of my friends, my husband, and I are all college educated and hard working people. If more people involved in this discussion had open minds and a diverse groups of people around them, the comments would not be so ONE-SIDED.
