Re: ash some people are such idiots. Why in the hell would NAS be racist against Black people when he is a black person? –
I am not sure anyone said that. But BTW, you can be black and racist too. racist against blacks or whites or whatever.
Re: STFU E – haha, you're right… i don't have to answer everything… but i WANT TO, so I WILL.
"Black people are more racist that white people."
Sean Bell R.I.P
Deon Russell R.I.P
Michael Baker R.I.P
Shawnetta Johnson R.I.P
Mark Wills R.I.P
Tina…etc. etc..etc..
to much for me, but what a genius way to get his motherfucking point across!
People can seriously be so ignorant! Your life is ultimately what YOU make out of it. It doesn't matter what ethnicity you are, what city you're from, who your parents were, or even how much money you have. I'm half black , grew up in the "hood or ghetto" and have dealt with racism. Now, I could of have chosen to be a pot head, or joined a gang or got pregnant like many of my classmates, but I didn't. Rather than spending my weekends smoking blunts and watching MTV, I spent them doing a little thing called homework, which required an hour long bus ride to the library because I didn't have a computer. I maintained a 4.0 GPA, got accepted on a full scholarship to one of the best college prep High Schools in Southern California and am now a junior @ Stanford U. The problem with ( part) of the black and other inner city families is a lack of parental guidance and the fact people just aren't willing to put forth much effort to change their situation. Yes, it sucks that inner city schools aren't as good as the suburban schools, but that's just part of life. There's always going to be racism and prejudice and things at are beyond your control. You can either let it define you, or you can choose to make a difference and re-write your own definitions.
Re: thissu – To have the attitude that a given people of a given race race and/or persuasion should merely move on, stop bitch'in,etc. is ignorant on its very face in light of continual racism not only in this country but if you hve ever traveled throughout the world…all people of color in a given society. One only has to look at the recent primaries in kentucky and West Virginia where 27% plus people polled stated that they only voted for Hillary Clinton because they could never vote for a black man no matter if his politics mirrored theirs or if it were in their best interest. THAT"S IGNORANT AND STRAIGHT UP RACIST! Then take into account that by and large, Hillary appealed to the lower class and less educated (and believe me as a social worker I don't look down on anyone on the basis of class or socio-economic status).
he's a little late…this crap was out of style a few hundred years ago !!!
I think the point most here are trying to make is, how are we supposed to stop looking at the division, the differences, and start treating one another the same, as one when people keep on pushing those differences, and things that they never went through onto a society that never caused it? That's going to cause even MORE racial tension.
The fact is, some people still want that racial tension there. And not all of them are wearing KKK uniforms or SS badges. Some just make CD covers like the one above.
Re: Shani – Nobody gives a shit about that bullshit! I'm from SE, Washington, DC which is supposed to be the worst neighborhood in DC, and although that neighborhood could be pretty fucking bad, the majority of the kids in my neighborhood always graduated from high school on time. Hey, I'm a fucking pothead (LOUD AND PROUD) and I just graduated from University of Virginia. Maybe you're from the south or whatever, but black people pretty much have their act together around these parts, even if it's only for superficial reasons (having the bigger house, the better car, access to better schools for their children, etc.) It's like a competitive "who can acquire more" that actually propels black people to make good.
Re: KevinK – I really don't think he's trying to create racial tension. I'm not speaking generally when I ask, why do white people immediately jump to that conclusion? When the Pianist came out such and such years ago, did you feel that Roman Polanski was trying to create racial tension? No. He was just telling a story. And that's what Nas is doing. It's not his fault if white people immediately get offended every time there's talk about slaves, nooses, lynchings, etc. I have not once blamed slavery for my life, and not many black people do.
And as far as reparations, are you implying that it was okay for America to get involved and demand reparations for the Jews affected in the holocaust, but African Americans who were actually slaves IN AMERICA (the holocaust did not happen here!) didn't deserve anything? It was okay to set them free with nowhere to go? No money, no idea where the fuck they are? Does that honestly make sense to you? No, black people nowadays should NEVER reap the monetary benefits of slave labor, but there were ex-slaves alive and well in the US in the early twentieth century.
To everyone else:
I don't understand how it's okay for everyone in America to celebrate/discuss or make movies/books/music about their history/past, but whenever black people bring up the most monumental tie that binds us all together, there's mass hysteria. And black people are not the only ones who complain. Let's silence that assumption right now. If I come across another Irishman, Native American, etc. that's been oppressed and wants to malign me with their pseudo-anger, I may have to blow my head off. I don't want to hear your stories, that's why I don't bring you mine! So, for all of the white people telling blacks to 'get over it' (trust WE ARE over it), Irish people whose family immigrated here a long time ago, Jews, Native Americans: GET OVER IT!
Re: Whatev – Wow, that's the EXACT same thing I told the angry white trash on the other page. No exaggeration. She felt something was owed to her simply because of her whiteness, when no one is owed anything. To be honest, I think racism within the black community is something that white people cooked up to make themselves feel better about hating black people. The "too-black, too-light" mentality died a looooooong time ago, but you white people love to hang onto it. "They don't even like themselves…yadda, yadda, yadda." Cut it out, please. You really do not know how prejudiced you sound. You guys don't even like YOURSELVES! You complain about white trash over here, liberals over there. I've had a white history teacher try to convince my mostly white class that the holocaust was necessary, and guess what? No one questioned him. Gosh, you guys find a bandwagon and you jump on it headfirst.
Get off YOUR lazy ass and get a job. Quit living off of workman's/worker's compensation, put down the Jack Daniels, and stop blaming affirmative action for your inadequacy. Newsflash: Not all white people are brilliant. I know how hard that is for you guys to understand, since you're all soooooo smart. Cheers!
listen up, yes it is history, but to say that the black are being racist is stupid, and i don*t think people choose to be on the street, ASS! By the whites are still being racist and still dropping the n word, such as micheal richards and jason from the hills.
Wow. To that comment " When we are in office your white bitch backs will look like that " FUCK YOU is all I have to say. And they say Whites are racist!
ok its time to move onnnn, slavery was a very long time ago, its history ..YES…its still fucked up…YES..but its 2008 pps, move the fuck out of america if it still bothers u that bad!!!
These comments have been really interesting to read. Some have been thought provoking, some have been abrasive, and really, as a result, I have to give kudos to Nas for being controversial, for making people think and react and feel defensive. It is so easy to live life without questioning it–hence, this album cover received a lot stereotypical responses from representatives of racial and religious groups on here. No one likes feeling like they're being attacked.
We could talk all day long here about all of our different experiences of race and how it permeates our lives and actions, but to discredit anyone's personal experiences is ignorant in itself. The topic of white privilege is unfortunately a very real one, and I'm ashamed much of the time for most white people–those who couldn't possibly empathize with people of varying racial, ethnic, or religious groups outside their own identification; groups that are consistently and PRESENTLY denied access to RIGHTS that only the fortunate in this country enjoy. To dismiss a lifetime of hostility, both on a personal and political level with the statement, "GET OVER IT!" is entirely unsympathetic and even inhumane.
I hope we all can get past the petty bullshit and actually CARE about doing what's right. But if we could do that, there wouldn't be room for websites like this, now would there?
Re: Gray I really don't think he's trying to create racial tension. –
You are correct. He's just trying to make money. But in the PROCESS it WILL create tension of the like. But he don't care as long as he gets his monies.
And if you kinda squint, he looks like Mr hanky the Christmas Poo.
time to move on…you werent even alive during the times of slavery. hell, you're parents weren't even alive then.
powerful message, but so overdone. move on…
