Lucky break for the old fart!
Brigitte Bardot won't be going to jail for inciting racial hatred, but she will need to pony up about $23,000, according to reports.
A French court has decided to fine the old dog instead of throwing her in the slammer.
It is the fifth time Bardot's been convicted over her controversial remarks about Islam and its followers. This is her heaviest fine so far.
The former sex symbol was not in court to hear the ruling.
She should just shut her piehole from now on!

Sigh. Most of you have no clue what U.S. law is in regards to Freedom of Speech! And that's a damn shame since it's THE most important right we have! To impart some knowledge,the principle of freedom of speech has two basic tenets. First, free speech serves special and significant constitutional purposes and should be strenuously protected. However, the second tenet provides that First Amendment does not protect all speech, but only speech of a certain quality. So even in the U.S. there are types of speech that are unprotected speech. Things like: obscenity, defamation, child pornography, threats and intimidation, false advertising, and YES, even incitement to immediate violence or illegal activity are ALL unprotected speech. You speak it, you can get sued or go to jail. In addition, the Government can suppress of otherwise legal speech if the government can advance a compelling reason. For example, national security concerns might justify suppression of an article describing military strategy in wartime…and I'm sure most of you see why THAT'S necessary.
Anyways, having read what Bardot said, I would say that if she were in the U.S., her speech would be protected. I saw no incitement in her statement. Hate? ABSOLUTELY! But incitement? Unlikely…she should have stuck to talking about saving the animals sans the attacks on an ENTIRE religion. It would better served her purpose.

I certainly find Ms. Bardot highly entertaining - if not crazy. However, her beef with Islam should be closely examined. I certainly do not appreciate their - Islam's - hypocritical intolerance against the gay community writ large. They Muslim community in France is growing and concerns the French nationals because they do not with to assimilate.
Brigitte Bardot is so right! She is defending the way they slaughter the animals on their holy days. Hard to believe someone could acutally go to jail for being anti-islamic. i happen to be Muslim, and i love animals. my whole family does. we would never hurt animals. that thing they do with sheeps is because it is customary to eat lamb on Eid. Lots of people eat animals, but because we kill them in the most harmless way possible, we're barbaric? doesn't make sense. STILL, i think she was punished to harshly. she was only concerned about the animals and probably just didn't know that we have very specific ways to humanly kill animals in our culture. Even if she hates us, she should be entitled to free speech.
