I live in Texas (not for long) and believe me, the drivers here are the WORST! I've lived in California and have spent much time in Boston and some in NY and Texas wins, hands down, as the worst drivers I have ever seen. I don't know where people here are going for their driver's licenses, but they must just be handing them out to whoever comes through the door…it is frightening!!!!!!!

Depending on your state laws, Ryan, bicycles are considered vehicles and must follow the same laws as vehicles. Granted some cyclists are a bit rude, there are just as many, if not more, rude drivers on the road. Were America a more pedestrian/bicycle friendly society you would feel differently. It would be very beneficial to all persons on the road if they were taught to ride a bike on the road first. You can't do your makeup, read a paper, call your girlfriend…you have to be hyper aware at all times. Remember, driving is a privilege in America, not a right.

I think this incident is awful, but I'd be grateful if someone would publicize the stories of all the pedestrians who are seriously injured by cyclists who lack the decency to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. Seriously, I've nearly been clocked so many times–or have seen others nearly clocked–by these people that this picture actually did my heart good. And I know that's wrong and awful, but cyclists can be total fuckers for whom "share the road" applies only to them and not pedestrians as well.

My heart goes out to the family members. I will NEVER go back to Mexico. The laws are not reinforced and they generally treat Americans like shit. But they'll take your $ with a big grin on their face. Not only is it corrupt there, I've seen horror story after horror story. They drug your drinks, then take your cars. When buying food at my local mercado, I "looked" American and they'd try ripping me off while purchasing shrimp, by putting their pinkie finger on the scale, making it look like it weighed more. Unfortunately, I know this guy- Juan Campos. He is the younger brother of an old friend. Sadly, he was not one to make good choices, as I am sure not many ppl are. However, his blatant disrespect for himself, the cyclists, and the minor he was with is not to be ignored.
For the record, he is not an illegal- he was born in the U.S. and comes from a single parent home.
This is unfortunate for all families involved. He is not a killer, but rather a person who made a dumb choice.
