Go Ahead, Make His Day

Clint Eastwood sat down with the British media and let loose on everything from his feud with Spike Lee to his support of John McCain. A Hollywood Republican! GASP!

Here are some of the sit-down highlights:

In regards to Spike Lee's gripe that Clint Eastwood failed to tip a hat to the contributions of a small African American unit on Iwo Jima in the war flick Flags of Our Fathers: "Has he (Spike) ever studied the history?" asked Clint. Yes, there was a small detachment of black troops on Iwo Jima as a part of a munitions company, "but they didn't raise the flag. The story is Flags of Our Fathers, the famous flag-raising picture, and they didn't do that. If I go ahead and put an African-American actor in there, people'd go, 'This guy's lost his mind.' I mean, it's not accurate." "A guy like him should shut his face."

On being labeled a Hollywood Republican Clint says, "I don't pay attention to either side. I mean, I've always been a libertarian. Leave everybody alone. Let everybody else do what they want. Just stay out of everybody else's hair. So I believe in that value of smaller government. Give politicians power and all of a sudden they'll misuse it on ya."

And what about John McCain? Eastwood tells the Brit reporter, "My wife used to be an anchorwoman in Arizona, so she knew John McCain and she liked him and I kinda liked him. In fact, we sort of supported him when he was running the first time against Bush eight years ago. But we haven't been active as yet. It's kind of a zoo out there right now. So I think I'll kinda let things percolate."

One thing Eastwood also makes clear is that he will definitely not be making Dirty Harry 6, despite rumours to the contrary. "Some idiot came up with some theory," he says. The crime flick Gran Torino, which he is due to film at some point, is emphatically not part of the Dirty Harry cycle. "Not at my age," he stresses. "There are certain age limits on police officers. They'd have retired me out at 65."

It's quite telling that the people who have great talent, smart and not publicity whores but stay out of the Hollywood spotlight and keep their private life private are not the ultra liberals and democrats that so many in the celebrity insecure , barely a high school diploma, morally bankrupt of the Hollywood we see everyday. Clint is right, and Spike Lee who can barely get a film financed should shut his racist, black victimization mouth up, really…… when's the last time Spike Lee even done a half way decent movie, 1986, he's a big time loser who's career is over but no one told him yet.

Clint you're right on target with your comments. Spike is typical of his group. Crybaby, Whitey Held Me Back, Where My Welfare Check, etc. The guy should be the Poster Boy for Failed Affirmitive Action.

Good for you Clint. Stand up for what you believe in. I would vote for historical accuracy over political correctness any day. And Spike Lee gives African Americans a bad name. It's people like him that PROMOTE and keep that racist fire burning.

I m a bit amazed to see how racist you people are…You say America is beyond races? then why are Black so poor? Why are they a large majority in the jails??? Maybe you re gonna say it's in their genes, like Sarkozy did. I just think you're still very racist even if the law has changed, people haven't. Spike Lee is right about this one

Hey Perez, why isn't Mr Eastwood receiving your usual discriminitory remarks regarding the fact that he is old, and by the look of him, has not succumbed to the plastic surgery trend? When other older people (usually women) make statements about issues which have nothing to do with looks and/or age, you usually trivialize what they say by dismissing their remarks because of their age, or writing stupid comments across their photo, eg "hag" across Lauren Hutton. Constistency and respect for the life experiences of older people are not strong points with you. What has Mr Eastwood done right to escape the usual bitchy comments?

Sarah people in the US pretty much choose their way of life. If they are poor, it's USUALLY because they choose not to do anything with their lives and sit around all day. And there are many many "blacks" that are rich as well.

Stop feeding into the FUD stereotype.

Re: dale – None of you writing on this blog have noticed that Dale believes "only good one is a dead one," which is to say the only good black person is a dead one? This is the sort of company you find when you begin to assume that Americans are beyond racism. Some of you are probably good people who are rightfully irritated by the continued discussion about race and would like to usher in a "postracial" America as soon as possible, but don't delude yourself into thinking that All minorities don't face racism and shouldn't be allowed to gripe a bit.
