Janet Jackson was recently asked what the next single off her new album will be.
Miz Jackson answered with disappointing news:
That’s pretty difficult to say, only because of the record label at this point. We started off with Feedback and the label and myself haven’t quite seen eye to eye since the Feedback single so they’ve kind of basically stopped all promotion. I’m trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album so I don’t think you’re going to hear another single off this album.
What do y'all think?

NOT FAIR AT ALL! Just wait until the label sees the kind of support she'll be getting from the fans come tour-time–
geesh, how about not blaming the record company for once?? how about singles being played on the radio is pretty much the determining factor in how a record sells? maybe radio got no response on the next single after Feedback and the second single going to radio was weak OR there was no other song on the record that could be a single? How about the phone at radio stations were just not ringing with listeners wanting to hear the song?? ever thought about that? If there's no story at radio, there's no story anywhere (retail, mags). Radio makes everything else happen with a record.
Of course Janet has to make herself look good (don't blame her) by blaming the record company and they don't care, but her last 3, yes THREE, records have tanked. I'm a Janet fan but the songs were just not good. I believe she lost the magic with her music when her and what's-his-face divorced. end of story.
I,m sorry that Janet is not getting the promotion she deserves her latest album discipline is a strong album especially when you compare it to some of the crapp out there that is currently on the charts. I agree Janet should start her own label she has enough talent and creativity to do so and make it a sucess. The odds has been against her since superbowl. Justin Timberfake seems to have got a way with it, and he is not even that talented compared to Usher. The industry is racist and so are some posters who can not think of any thing original to say as they have brains the size of an amoeba, which leaves me wondering why do certain posters have such an obssesion in posting anything to do with Janet if they do not like her, seems crazy too me, but I don,t want to get into a pyscho, retarded idiots mind as I am scared what I might find…

I never thought it was a smart move to release "Rock With U" as a second single. You need something that is going to be a sure-fire hit to follow-up a first single, especially in the States. Music Execs have really lost their touch.
it's pretty logical…when your album bombs, the record label will stop spending money to support the album.

Her best two albums were rhythm nation and the velvet rope. her boyfriend needs to stop giving mariah the best beats and saved them for janet so her career can take off again. but janet keep making the same music for the last 9 years. is time for her to go on a new direction, sound.

Huge JJ fan here, but that latest CD sucks…except for the Feedback song. Janet needs to sing, not whisper and try and be sexy…she Mariahitis…thats what Mariah was doing for 2 to 3 CDs and finally with Emancipation she started to sing again. Janet needs to get back to what made her huge, rockin dance videos and sing Janet, just sing!

Now it makes sense why feedback was only for sale on itunes, the industry sucks and Janet can and will do it on her own. Feedback was a solid single and Discipline is a good album which did get to no1 in your charts Janet has had no promotion in Europe at all and she does have a fan base here also that appreciates good music not 4 mins of crapp by a certain artist that still gets airplay even though it is bad . Fuck no…that's not fair. but is this the truth. The album has a couple of good tracks but once JJ got the flu or some shit, she dropped off. I thought this was suppose to be a freekin come back. Something is not being said of the conflict she is having. Isn't this her third or fourth label that isn't doing her justice. Sound like Jackson syndrome to me.
Its a shame Janet's label won't back her. 2nite is a fun dance song that could have been a great single (Luv would also make a good single). I believe Janet has got a great comeback in her but she's not found the right producers and writers to work with. We true Janet fans believe in her….but to be honest, all the major divas this year have put out disappointing cds. I wasn't that impressed with Madonna's new cd (and I've always loved LaM's music) and Mariah's only good song on her new cd was "Touch My Body". Seems like the divas are having trouble competing with the youngsters….which is interesting because the youngsters are putting out nothing but shit right now.
Janet is desperate…..too desperate for fame! It's NOT gonna happen with this album honey, sorry. The album STINKS as bad as Perez does on any day of the week!!!

Commercially this is bound to happen, but musically this is not fair as this album has really been her best since the Velvet Rope, there are very good materials. If this album were released say 6 or 7 years ago, it would have banged hard!!
Island Records have not done Janet any favours at all she should leave… Janet should tour then try and get out of that contract, and pursue acting or do a musical she is so talented and it is a shame to see it go to waste her record company has failed her and the industry is just plain racist and sexist. This is so wrong. I thought Island Record would of promote Janet better than this especially with how the music industry have wronged her since 2004. It,s a real shame as Discipline is actually a good album much better than some of the music out there.

Forget the detractors, guys check out the video for "Rock with U" on youtube. It's excellent! Great choreography and lots of young dancers. She needs to release 2Night and have a very vibrant, upbeat, COLORFUL video like her "All for You" video, to put her back on the charts. Her videos lately have all been very dimly lit, which I think sets a dark mood, and turns-off people. She needs to get away from that.

I don,t think Janet's music from her last two albums was that bad. The wrong singles was released thats all. I can,t understand why her own label is not helping. Janet will get thru this it sounds like her career before Control when everybody was telling her what to do. She is strong and independant and could do it all by herself. Janet should create her own label and make it a sucess.
well i unfortunately bought the album the first maybe a whole 2 tracks worth listening to feedback and the remix of feedback. her biggest downfall in my opinion is its to old school janet. no one wants to here half an album of interludes AKA Janet talking to a stupid computerized voice. hello madge manages to reinvent she isn't re releasing like a virgin !
first off…i have to agree with her label…..this album sux. things all sound slow and there are no good riffs. her last album was so much better, it is a shame that the whole nipple incident ruined it's run for her. the only thing that could make up for j.t.'s mistake in exposing her nip is to let her rip off hs pants and thong in concert….tat would be hot!!!!

She really hasn't had any really strong singles since 2001. I think it's a combination of things, including her boyfriend being so involved in her career. She is so reliant on producers to create her sound and record labels to create her image.
She gotta do what Mariah did. LA Reid didnt want Touch My Body as the first single he wanted Im That Chick, but Mariah said no, its my album, i'm an executive producer on it i want Touch My Body and it worked it went #1. At the same time Mariah has a lot more creativity and hands on on her albums as she writes and produces where as Janet is like all the rest, (J LO) she just rocks up sings other peoples songs for a week or too and goes home and waits for the producers to make the album. Mariah spent 9 months making the latest album.
She should leave the label. More and more artists are cutting the middle man out - Tori Amos just left Epic, NIN just released "The Slip" as a free download on the official website, following the success of Radiohead's "In Rainbows." With iTunes and artist-driven websites, record labels (and CDs for that matter) are quickly becoming a thing of the past.
