Keira Knightley is in talks to play Eliza Doolittle in the re-make of stage to film classic My Fair Lady.
The studio, Columbia, declined to comment on casting of the project, being produced by Duncan Kenworthy (Love Actually, Notting Hill..fab flicks!) and theater legend Cameron Mackintosh.
According to reports, while it's being called an update, the film will use the original score and retain its 1912 setting.
Where possible, Kenworthy and Mackintosh intend to shoot the film on location in the original London settings of Covent Garden, Drury Lane, Tottenham Court Road, Wimpole Street and the Ascot racecourse.
Keira is no Audrey Hepburn!!!!!!!

The only actress that ever reminded me of Audrey Hepburn was Calista Flockhart and she's too old. This is going to be like the horrible remake of Pride and Prejudice.
As far as looks go though, Kiera NAILS the Eliza Doolittle. Same bone structure and everything.
I honestly can't think of one actress in hollywood that would fit this role… maybe Natalie Portman looks and acting wise?…they should just find someone new and interesting…
ok so i actually HATE keira knightley….but i am a HUGE fan of my fair lady.
with that said, i don't think keira knightley would be all that bad in my fair lady (shocking i know. she's terrible. but perhaps this could be the right film for her? she does have a nice singing voice). she does look the part…and while she obviously would never replace audrey hepburn…it might be worthwhile to give her a chance (look at how daniel craig turned out for james bond?)
and it might as well be an english actress too? i dunno. not too sure what to think.
Enough with the remakes of classics. And ENOUGH with the remakes featuring Keira Knightley. She has that same annoying expression in every film - talking or opening her mouth with her teeth sticking out. And is it just me, or does she pretty much play the same character in every film???

Re: joey – Emmy was into Opera before she even started acting. Metro Opera…at 7, she did over 20 shows, look it up. So as far as you thinking she "doesn't have the chops" to sing in the opera…know you stuff before you open you mouth.

A cockney speaking guttersnipe is pretty much the only character Keira Knightley is actually fit to play. They just need to bring in someone better looking with talent to play Eliza in the second half of the film.

Eh, I say let us see Keira's interpretation of the role. AH wasn't really that talented of an actress. Her best accomplishment was Roman Holiday. My Fair Lady and Breakfast at Tiffany's are fun movies, but they in no way test her acting abilities. The reason ppl still worship AH is b/c she was Givenchy's real-life mannequin.

Kiera Knightley is definitely a terrrible choice for the part, but Natalie Portamn is no better…however, I think that Hugh Laurie would be superb as Henry Higgins, if they insist on going ahead with this superfluous project.

Emmy Rossum can't act to save her life. Her voice is terrible too unless it's been digitally edited. (If you don't believe me, go to her website and watch one of her videos of her singing live. You'll see what I mean.)

Why would you try to re-make perfection??? Seriously? And anyway, its not actually Audrey singing in the film. They recorded her singing and then decided to dub her songs. I don't think Keira's a poor choice, I think she's got bad chops, and you shouldn't be so harsh on her Perez, but it shouldn't be re-made, regardless. It was the first major musical I've ever done with good actors and dancers and it is very near and dear to my heart. Keira Knightly wouldn't be very good and Emmy Rossum would BUTCHER it! Neither are worthy of portraying Eliza. And neither are Audrey Hepburn? Try neither are CLOSE to Julie Andrews, the original! In my opinion, have someone do it who has stage background and who can REALLY sing, not someone who is pretty and they can teach to sing. Who that is, I'm not sure yet.
