My Fair Keira?

Filed under: Anglophilia > Film Flickers > Keira Knightley

keirak1.jpg

Bad idea.

BAD!

Keira Knightley is in talks to play Eliza Doolittle in the re-make of stage to film classic My Fair Lady.

The studio, Columbia, declined to comment on casting of the project, being produced by Duncan Kenworthy (Love Actually, Notting Hill..fab flicks!) and theater legend Cameron Mackintosh.

According to reports, while it's being called an update, the film will use the original score and retain its 1912 setting.

Where possible, Kenworthy and Mackintosh intend to shoot the film on location in the original London settings of Covent Garden, Drury Lane, Tottenham Court Road, Wimpole Street and the Ascot racecourse.

Keira is no Audrey Hepburn!!!!!!!

We heart London and musicals.

They can't butcher My Fair Lady!!!!!!

Who would be a good Eliza???

Emmy Rossum???

C'mon. Audrey didn't even do her own vocals and maybe Keira won't either. Who cares? I don't think the idea sucks.

    Perez,

I love ya, babe. I agree, Keira Knightley is no Audrey Hepburn. But, I'm sorry - Audrey Hepburn is no Julie Andrews either. Audrey didn't sing one note of the music on the film version. It's a musical, for goodness sake!! Why hire people that can't sing?! And unless Keira can sing, I don't think she should play Eliza either.

    308

Why can't Hollywood just come up with new ideas?

A remake of My Fair Lady would not even come close to the original, so why even bother?

No one can top Audrey Hepburn's Eliza Doolittle.

Audrey didn't sing because the assholes that made My Fair Lady wouldn't let her.

Again, they wouldn't let her sing, and it broke her heart.
Julie Andrews is amazing, don't get me wrong, but Audrey is wonderful too.

you're so fucking stupid perez. you don't know shit about film or casting. keira knightley is an amazing actress…have you seen anything besides pirates? why don't you go stroke it to your 10 dollar hot topic line and shut the fuck up

  17. heathe says – reply to this

    317

Audrey Tatou maybe? Though I don't know how well she could pull off the British accent. :'(
I don't know but for some reason Kiera bugs me. She's pretty and all but I see her as a total bitch behind closed doors.

But they shouldn't even be remaking that movie in my opinion.

  18. S says – reply to this

Well, Emmy Rossum HAS played Audrey Hepburn before. She could totally do it again!

  23. Evelyn says – reply to this

    323

And Audrey Hepburn was no Julie Andrews.

Let Keira do the remake. Keira Knightly is an excellent actress, and I couldn't see anyone else in today's crop of young actresses doing it.

  24. kaori- says – reply to this

    324

Audrey Tatou would be a lovely Eliza.

  25. Good i says – reply to this

    325

I think that Keira would be a great Eliza Doolittle. She has a great acting range. Anyone who has seen her in Pride and Prejudice would know that she can pull off some period drama.

  26. Kitty says – reply to this

    326

Emmy Rossum would be amazing! She is the only person who would do this justice.

But seriously, why do we need a remake? It's a classic, no one should touch it ever again! Same with the Birds, very angry about that remake!

  27. k says – reply to this

    327

i should be eliza. or anne hathaway. actually leave the movie alone

  29. STEPHE says – reply to this

    329

    HELLO!!!! NATALIE PORTMAN!!!
Natalie Portman would be perfect, she is the "Audrey Hepburn" of this generation!! Classy, witty, pure, and gorgeous.

  30. KeiraC says – reply to this

    330

Just to be clear - Audrey Hepburn did not sing her role in MY FAIR LADY, it was sung by popular 'ghost' singer, Marni NIXON, who also dubbed tons of OTHER movie musical roles including WEST SIDE STORY.

I've read before that Keira comes from a creative family, and her role choices thus far have been fantastic, so I would wager she can do it. Emmy Rosum was Terrible in Phantom of the Opera - both from a musical and acting point, so I would rather not see her again in anything, any time soon. PARTICULARLY a musical.

  31. JWo says – reply to this

    331

Kiera is puuuuuuurrrrrrrfect. You're jealous, P.

    333

HATE EMMY!!!!!!! Nooooooooooooooooooo! She has no personality.

  34. rawr says – reply to this

    334

Ok, first of all I feel a remake of My Fair Lady is unnecessary. Secondly, Audrey was an actress, not a singer, BUT she could sing a little bit. Didn't any of you people ever see Breakfast At Tiffany's when Audrey sings Moon River, its beautiful. Also, Audrey did sing a few songs in My Fair Lady, she just didn't have much range but it hardly mattered because she was perfect as Eliza

  35. Jon says – reply to this

    335

I hate her she is to thin…. All she ever plays are period pieces whats that all about.. They should cast LaLohan in it she is the best….

  36. dunski says – reply to this

    336

    ummm. do you know nothing????
Audry Hepburn didn't even do her own singing in My Fair Lady, it was dubbed. get it right.
SO if they really HAVE to make some new remake, Keira would be just as good as anyone, cause she's a talented actress.

  37. Tanava says – reply to this

    337

    BARBRA STREISAND! CAST BARBRA STREISAND!

  38. ache says – reply to this

    338

Please, someone tell me why Perez loves the idea of musicals and London but wants an American to play an the part of a cockney English woman? And duh, Audrey Hepburn (of English and Dutch descent born in Belgium) didn't even sing in My Fair Lady-it was Julie Andrews (a Brit) who sang the role the best in the actual stage show. And for the record, none of the songs Hepburn "sang" for the role were in the movie-ever-it was all dubbed by Marni Nixon. At least Keira Knightly is English for God's sake! The reality is, they don't need to remake it.

  39. Laura says – reply to this

    339

    Anne Hathaway!

  40. Isabel says – reply to this

No, not Keira Knightly. Pick PARIS HILTON. She has a beautiful voice, have you even heard "the stars are blind"? Or Nicole Richie, or Wendy Townsend.

    341

They need to do a remake of The Sound of Music, and cast Tina Fey.

  42. clara says – reply to this

    342

the first person that came to mind to play the part was natalie portman. she is just really good at doing a british accent and reminds me of audrey hepburn like no one else but, im not sure if she can sing or not. if they gave her lessons, then she would be the best choice.

  43. Hillar says – reply to this

    343

Emmy would be perfect Perez! Plus My Fair Lady needs a new york accent at the begining and Keira has a british accent. It just wouldn't work.

  44. lana says – reply to this

    344

KEIRA WOULD BE PERFECT BECAUSE SHE IS SO CRASS IN REAL LIFE!! SHE IS JUST AS SKINNY AS AUDREY WAS TOO!!

  45. keiraH says – reply to this

when is hollywood going to get over Keira and realize that people don't go to her movies SIMPLY because she is in them.

Except Emmy Rossum can't act, nor sing that great.

  47. D$ says – reply to this

    351

You guys chat like Kiera would be playing Audrey Hepburn! When she would be Eliza! What is the big deal if someone is willing to remake a movie. It might create a new fan base for the original. Possibly it might become a classic also.

  52. sonia says – reply to this

    352

Emmy Rossum??? She is way too classy and goody goody to play Eliza. I actually think that Brittany Murphy could be perfect for the role if she got the british accent down right because she has an amazing singng voice and i think she could play goofy and dumb pretty well. But if not then Keira would be better than Emmy for sure ’cause at least she is capable of having a tough edge.

  53. jase says – reply to this

    353

    Re: lauraa
OMG yes! So true!!! Emily would be PERFECT for this…and she can sing (i think), she sang a bit of Michael Buble's Me and Mrs Jones.

  54. chrisy says – reply to this

    354

Please do not remake this movie!!! I will start a petition. It's one of my favorite of all time….just like remaking The Sound of Music or The Wizard of Oz….what a dumb idea!!! Leave it alone Hollywood.

    357

I may be biased because I'm the biggest Audrey Hepburn fan, but I don't think any actress in Hollywood could do the role justice.

Somehow I can't imagine Audrey throwing temper tantrums on the set and releasing a sex tape. Most other actresses have something like that hanging over them.

Writers should stop remaking classics for them only to be flops and get the creative juices flowing!

  58. Kim says – reply to this

OOO I would LOVE EMMY to play Eliza!!!

  61. jj says – reply to this

She's perfect; boyish, no chest, long neck, stupid face. Just like Audrey! Oh yeah, and no singing ability.

  62. rm says – reply to this

    362

i dont know which is worse this or the rumor of someone re-making Ben Hurr. i think hollywood needs to take a step back, stop wasting their money and get new and origional ideas. or better yet stop with all teh CG shit and actually make a great movie with a great story line and actors.

Also, Emmy Rossum can't act for shit. You just keep pimping her out because she seems "sweet" but you miss the fact that EMMY CAN'T ACT! She has all of 3 facial expressions. Go Keira!

  65. Meiko says – reply to this

    Actually, nobody can replace Hepburn.
    Enough said.

  66. LateNi says – reply to this

    366

This is one of my favorite musicals. Remakes are always tough. It has to be better than the original or there is no point in remaking it. I like Keira - but can she sing? This is a MUSICAL! I hope she doesn't slaughter it.

  67. rawr says – reply to this

    367

Re: dunski – no you get it right, Audrey did sing some and was supposed to sing more than they let her.

  68. Kate says – reply to this

NO ONE! If they remade "My Fair Lady," they would completely destroy it. Like if they remade "Grease"…it would completely kill "Grease"…and why would you want to kill/want to be labeled as the killer of the most beloved musical of all time???

hell yeah. I looooooooooooooove Audrey Hepburn (plan on naming my first daughter after her), and I loooooooove Keira Knightley. I dont usually like people messing with Audrey stuff, but TO ME…..Keira Knightley playing Eliza Doolittle would be like, heaven on earth. In my oppinion.

  73. Yellow says – reply to this

  74. I'm j says – reply to this

    374

She is so beautiful! I wonder if Natalie Portman lost weight to try and keep up with her? It must feel pretty bad to have someone play your double (Star Wars) and watch their career sky-rocket.

  75. LisaLa says – reply to this

    375

Keira would be fantastic and yes, she can sing. Plus she can play both the cockey girl and the transformed Eliza perfectly. Perez, get off her ass. She has done well in every film she has made. Plus I would do her in a heartbeat!!

  76. I'm j says – reply to this

    376

Natalie does look more like Audrey but talent. Puleeze. She cannot act. I think she's had lessons too. She did the best in the Professional. That's it. In other movies she looks contrived. You can totally tell she's acting and waiting for her lines.

Forget remaking the musical.  Remake PYGMALION,  the original GB Shaw play, previously filmed with Wendy Hiller as Eliza and Leslie Howard as Higgins. Supposedly Audrey Hepburn had always wanted to play the Eliza Doolitle role in Pygmalion, so she was particularly happy to play the same role in the musical.  Too bad Rex Harrison was so old by the time the film was made:  they really need to find a younger, more plausably romantic male lead for this new production,  someone no older than his mid forties,  but younger would be better.  They're probably hoping for Jeremy Irons which would be a mistake. There have to be any number of sexy Brits who would be brilliant in the role.   Any suggestions?

  85. Julia says – reply to this

    385

Natalie Portman would Be an excellent Audrey Hepburn
It must be the petite built, and interesting eyebrows
I have never heard her singing voice, though
    But in my true opinion…
They should just digitally-remaster the origonal MY FAIR LADY
But, That is just an amature actresses opinion
Nothin more, nothin less…. I guess- hehe
