so, i reread the header before this reply and relised what was pissing you all off
"You know we love y'all, but….

    THIS is unacceptable.

Let's do something about that!!!! "

he's saying, we love you. the "but" is what's throughing everyone off. what he means is: you're there, you can make the difference. we can't cause we're in america. and it's a localised issue that wouldn't require international action like say: the red fund or peace corp or others like that. the "but" is "but you guys can't be ok with this so do something to support this woman." it was an encouragement. so please, please, please relax and let is role off you backs. by the way i fucking hate george bush, but the us is still a pretty cool nation with problems like many. there is no best, but there are certainly worse. shit we've got a bi-racial candadate for president. that's pretty fucking cool!

  3. antarc says – reply to this

    303

as an antarctican i would just like to say that this would never happen in the south pole. all of our scientists would never get mad about someone shaving there head's. especially cause they'd keep thier hair out of the ice core samples. and the penguins would never continue to eat at an ice flow that didn't allow them to wear thier feathers any way they want to. and if you where to racially generalise our uninhabital little nationless plot of land we would totally boycott your stupid web site, all 9 of us. but generalising and being racist is what you get from a bunch of warmongering, gun crazy, terrorist americans. there's only two things i hate in the world: people who stereotype people of other nationalities and the dutch. i mean americans. - said by a brit, written by a canadian.

the people of owen sound are spreading the word .stay away from nathaniel,s restaurant and my hats off to the lady who donated her hair you go girl!!!

  5. Roxi says – reply to this

    305

This is in my home town and trust me….that posh little restaraunt is feeling the wrath of their action's. Every year probably a quarter of the population in our city shave's their head for this fundraiser. We are a tight knit community and and as far as I'm concerned this kind of ignorrence is unacceptable. Thanks for making light of our situation….the employee's still working there are sticking up for the owner's…disgusting and shameful.

  6. love says – reply to this

    306

Canada didn't get together as a country and decide to fire her.

  7. msc16 says – reply to this

    307

there was also a lady who lost her job at tim hortons last month for giving a child a free timbit, she was fired over 36 cents or something like that!

  8. sassys says – reply to this

    308

Don't blame Canada! Blame the lame ass boss whom by the way is going to loose his customers and thus his business over this. It didn't have to become a national story for that to happen either. O.Sound is like many places here in Canuck land…a small place with a big heart and the locals will show how they feel about this by not patronising his place and spreading the word. There goes the biz! What a dip!

  9. Angela says – reply to this

    309

    Dear Perez.
Don't blame Canada for an isolated incident in Ontario.

  10. serial says – reply to this

    310

Stupidity is a global thing, not a Canadian thing!

  11. jenica says – reply to this

    311

as an fellow canadian,i to think this unacceptable.that employer should shown support by shaving their head, along w/ other employees.to show the ones w/ cancer have everybodies love and support

  12. Cancer says – reply to this

    312

Owen Sound is a hick town with a narrow mind. I have been there many times. This is not an accurate representation of all of Canada. Many, many organizations are set up to help to raise funds to find a cure for cancer. Many employers would have no problem with their employees supporting this- even by shaving their heads. Shame on the restaurant owner and I hope to God he/she never has to feel the wrath of cancer. The last thing he/she'll be thinking about is his/her hair.

  13. JF says – reply to this

    313

This has nothing to do with Canada, just a stupid restaurant owner. The restaurant owner will be screwed in court because we have a little thing called the charter of rights and freedoms.

  14. Marky says – reply to this

    314

This has to be one of the lamest posts you've made in a while. Please explain how Canada is in any way connected to the firing of this woman. Mario, you're not really that ignorant, are you? You're joking, right? Please tell me this is some form of really dry humor that I missed.

  15. Yup. says – reply to this

    315

That one, single restaurant owner is a looks-ist idiot. Canadians already know that he doesn't represent us. He represents his own discomfort, and that of a few 'see no evil' customers. Cancer doesn't go away if you hide it.
Bravo for the waitress. The bad publicity will affect his business far more than a mere girl who shaved her head for a good cause. He's probably already wishing that he could take this one back now that he's thought about its ramifications. Shallow is as shallow does.

  16. Yup. says – reply to this

    316

Free Timbit (donut hole) Tim Horton's lady got her job back, and went to another location.

  17. purple says – reply to this

    317

sigh….did you hear aabout the chick from tim hortons that got fired for giving a 17 cent to\imbit to some kid?
her manager accused her of stealing and fired her.

  18. Nat 10 says – reply to this

    318

I'm from Owen Sound and I can't believe how stupid the owner of Nathaniels is. Dumb move, man. Another restaurant will shortly be out of business…the food wasn't that great anyway.
And Morgan. It's not a hick town - so shut it ;)

  19. ROSEBU says – reply to this

    319

    BLAME CANADA!!!!!! LOL

  20. meliss says – reply to this

    320

unfortunately, the restaurant i work at probably would have done the same thing. in the world of fine dining, the rich and socially elite are more concerned with the look of their server than the reason they would be bald. i'm not saying it's right, i'm just saying it's the way of the world in fine dining.

  21. Tyler says – reply to this

    321

I think he's only posting this, because it surprisingly happened in Canada. I'm sure it's happened 10 times more in the United States, it just wasn't posted here.

  22. dfg says – reply to this

    322

I'm from Canada and I don't appreciate this because there is injustice all around the world..so for you to generalize is pathetic. Its like saying "U.S. the war gotta stop!!"!….its not the whole country's fault but a few assholes in the administration.
p.s.-Fuck you from one of your former fans because you just lost a reader…tmz.com

  23. CanCan says – reply to this

    323

Yes Perez, Canada as a gigantic NATION is disgusting and awful and deserves to become the 51st state for doing such a heinous thing. Come on! Of course it is absolutely unacceptable what happened to that waitress, but that was one restaurant, which members of the community are boycotting.

    Canadian and proud!

  24. shutup says – reply to this

    324

It was one restaurant, not a whole nation that fired her, fuck you perez!

  25. shutup says – reply to this

    325

P.S. Canada DOES NOT all love perez!

  26. bee says – reply to this

    326

I bet she'll get a better job, and that the joke will be on the owner who looses LOTS of business. I'd never go there again if I lived in that town.

  27. hello, says – reply to this

    327

We know-it was on the News yesterday. But don't worry-THE LAW IS CLEAR in Canada. This nice lady will get her job back (if she wants it) plus damages. But that's nothing on the damage that moron owner has done. The boycott is on!! Here in Canada we shave our heads for kids w/cancer and Cops for Cancer, 8" is one wig! I've been offered a grand for my long black hair…not enough guts yet tho…I'll stick to being their nurse!

  28. Jackie says – reply to this

    328

    That's not very Canadlianlike!

  29. LS says – reply to this

    329

this happened very close to me, i actually know the woman, and she's frustrated and willing to make a big deal out of this
in fact, the restaurant boss isnt willing to take back his statement at all
    jerk.

  30. Laura says – reply to this

    330

    Everyone stop getting so offended.
He isn't blaming Canada. What he IS doing is trying to get Canadians to fix it. You know, make complaints over it and such…

  31. doug says – reply to this

    331

hey perez don't paint all Canadians with the same brush because this wonderful woman worked for a neanderthal….hope the fine people of Owen Sound boycott his ass and put him out of business. All Americans aren't assholes for putting Dubya in office TWICE!!!

  32. matt says – reply to this

    332

    sue them!

  33. Angel says – reply to this

    333

I live in Owen Sound and we OUTRAGED that this has happened!!! To quote my friend….."Does it surprise me? No. This is a wake up call to all those who still live from their ego that just because you make more, have more or you are in the "higher" tax bracket, money does not depict WHO you are and to treat others unfairly. I hope you wake up. This is a constant dilema in Owen Sound!

  34. Mariam says – reply to this

    334

I am a proud Canadian, and to hear of such an unjust and unprecidented attack on a charitable donation is unacceptable. Ms. Fernall should be compensated for the frustration and time she had to spend to find a new job. I do not reccommend anyone attending the restaurant in question, because it obviously has no support for the suffering and surviving cancer patients out there.

  35. catbat says – reply to this

    335

Anywhere in Canada gays can marry anywhere (not just a few select places), women can walk around topless and not go to jail, abortion isn't considered an illegal act anywhere, a woman is entitled to 1 year maternity leave. (don't get me started on your unequal access to health care). When the States catches up with those basic human rights, then you can make derogatory comments about your neighbours.

First off the woman didn't sue, the owners have been punished through the media and life goes on. Canada has lots of areas where we need to improve LOTS but this isn't one of them. Should the waitress have pursued the action in courts she would have won but she chose to take a high road.

So u just went and sat at a restaurant and they just walked up asking of u were American?? Unless an American starts spouting something here, Ive NEVER seen anyone just walk up and start spouting hate..let alone 3 or 4 people. Ive never even seen anyone walk up and ask if someone was American?? You are full of shit.Toronto is used to people from all over the world…noone would even notice…again..unless u started spouting something.

    337

Would everyone stop making a point about so called generalization?! Jesus it's just a subject line to get you to read the article. I'm Canadian and I wasn't offended. I think what's more at point is what the restaurant did. Now that offends me. Hopefully she does bring a lawsuit against them, just to set precedence and show that douchebag of a restaurant owner that he's wrong.

    340

As someone who lives within a half-hours drive of owen sound, I can assure you it is the armpit of our country and if this were to happen anywhere, it would only be in owen sound. I'm surprised that town hasn't brought down our entire nation yet to be completely honest. What a hole.

  41. Alfonz says – reply to this

    341

I think it's a restaurant thing, not a Canadian thing. A comment like this shows ignorance on your part…

  42. wbotw says – reply to this

    342

Aw, look at the tubby American making ignorant generalizations! Perez, you freaking loser, perhaps you should do something about all the little problems the US is having before you harp on Canada for the actions of ONE restaurant owner in Ontario.

  43. Dani says – reply to this

    343

omg, im a canadian and that's absolutly horrible!!!!!!!!!! i cant believe anyone would do that@ i shaved my head for cancer and if anyone did anything like that to me, I'd be sooo furious! I'd definitely would have something to say about it. I say we egg that restaraunt!

  44. C says – reply to this

    344

You know what you should do Perez; give the restaurant a call that fired her! Canadas not at fault I live in Canada and I'm truly disgusted by this story and I really hope that the people of Owen Sound make a stand and stop eating at that place!!!! This owner is an ass and I hope the press are camped out on his front door!!!

  45. Janess says – reply to this

    345

I am canadian you americans should shut the fuck up your country is worst everyone knows this around the world so stop hating on my country

  46. 346

…don't forget to mention we all live in igloos which is probably why we don't know any better. This may come as a surprise but MOST Canadians would gind his actions unacceptable.

  47. lentil says – reply to this

    347

Perez, if you even read comments…..Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world, how about narrowing it down to the restaurant owner who lives in eastern Canada. Its got nothing to do with the country so leave it out of your canadialand file. I live on the Westcoast of Canada, I live 20 mins from the border to US ! Obviously the restaurantowner is an ignorant man who deserves to have his buisness boycotted.

  48. Cassie says – reply to this

    348

The Canadian Cancer Society should have offered her a job– :)

  49. KD says – reply to this

    349

I'm sorry, how is this Canada's fault? When some dickheads in the States do something assanine you don't give a "Dear US, this sucks"…..you are aware that Canada is in fact BIGGER than the US and there's a good chance that Canadians in Alberta didn't know what was going down in one restaurant in TO.

  50. Sarah says – reply to this

    350

I think it's ridiculous what kind of result this story has had, coming from Owen Sound, I think the biased approach all forms of media (except for my local paper) have had to this story is disgusting. Many jobs have dress codes that include a particular hair style, no piercings etc. It's only when someone blatantly disobeys said dress code that it becomes an issue, she was told before she shaved her head that her managers wouldn't take kindly to it. She chose to do it anyways and now she must face the consequences. There were other options she could have done for Cops for Cancer as opposed to shaving her head and she chose to do it anyways. No difference then not being allowed to wear piercings at work, teenagers have no problem taking out their piercings while they work a shift, if they can follow conduct then why can't a grown woman.

  51. Rachae says – reply to this

    351

It was one idiot restaurant owner, has nothing to do with canada as a country….just because it happened here, it could have happened anywhere. don't generalize for our entire country please. There are assholes all over the globe.

  52. Sarah says – reply to this

    352

As soon as Nathaniels reopens by the way, I'll be in there for the first time ever. YUM!

  53. Melody says – reply to this

    353

Re: fullas – I swear on my life that it happened. I was with a man who had an American flag tattoo, and as I said, four men walked up and started with the insults. I've been to Toronto several times without any problems, except the last time.

  54. Tokio says – reply to this

    354

I agree that this action is unacceptable BUT it has nothing to do with Canada as a country. It has to do with the owner's and establishment's unfortunate attitude and reaction.

  55. balls says – reply to this

    355

ummm Dear Canada!??!?!?!? you're blaming an entire country for this article?? canadians are all collectively douchebags yah…

  56. suckit says – reply to this

    356

Idiot…like that doesn't happen every day in the US. Restaurants have rules about the appearance of their waitstaff. They have dress codes, just like they have standards for the general appearance of the front of the house. My MALE roommate was told he'd be fired if he shaved his head at his job. It sucks, but like really there are far worse things in this world.

  57. Sonja says – reply to this

    357

I KNOW. It's dispicable, but let me assure you that this is not a Canadian thing. It's a single business's jerk thing. I'll bet the business doesn't last one month before they have to claim bankruptcy after this twit debacle!

  58. Sonja says – reply to this

    358

um, krysta (comment #301), from where I am sitting in Alberta, Toronto is just as EAST as Nova Scotia. The east of Canada is stuck up and it DID happen there!

  59. Steph says – reply to this

    359

    Hey Perez,
One business owner's stupidity and ignorance shouldn't be made to reflect a nation of 32 million people. Besides, legally they can't discriminate against an employee for the way they wear their hair.

  60. Amanda says – reply to this

    360

Yes it's horrible. But what this woman is forgetting to say is that SHE GOT IN A BIG ARGUMENT ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE WITH HER EMPLOYERS, WHICH IS THE REASONING FOR HER BEING FIRED there you have it. She's just trying to get the attention for it. and perez, don't generalize it as Canada because one woman is going after her employers because she did something wrong.

  61. everyw says – reply to this

    361

I think it is unfortunate that this happened, but I fully support the owner's right to run his business how he likes. I also suspect there may be more to the story. I wonder how she approached him, and how sensitive she was regarding how her appearance affects his business.

  62. Joseph says – reply to this

    362

Um…okay but what does this have to do with the COUNTRY in particular? It's obviously wrong, but what you did isn't particularly right.

yoy can be such an asshole.

  68. Luke says – reply to this

    368

    Two words: Patriot Act.

If you want to brand Canada as some intolerant nation based on a unilateral decision by a restaurant manager you go right ahead, you'll look like a naive ass. Someone was murdered yesterday in Montreal, blame ALL OF CANADA. Seriously, don't talk about my country without knowing anything about it.

  69. ABC says – reply to this

    369

That isn't something that relates to Canada as a nation. It was just an isolated case that could happen anywhere. But in Canada the issue will actually be looked at, and resolved. Unlike many contries including America.

    Don't generalize!

  70. albert says – reply to this

    370

c'mon perez. you can't hold everyone in a country personally accountable for the actions of a private citizen. If that were the case, I would imprison you for the actions of your president. both you and he seem to be idiots.

  71. WAHHHH says – reply to this

    371

    Dear Canada,
We get the point, it was one person, not the whole country……Canada is a very big place….everybody is very offended……
You all need to lighten up, your whining is giving me a freaking headache. And let me clarify, by you all, I don't mean the whole country, just the whiners

  72. Dru says – reply to this

    372

Wow.. I grew up just outside of Owen Sound (Note: I have seen maybe 3 mullets in that time, and it was on people 40+).. and I can't believe this.. That woman gave up her hair for such a wonderful charity, and she gets fired for it? If I were her boss, I would've cheered her on as she shaved it.
I can tell you right now that anyone and everyone I know from Grey-Bruce County is going to know about this and help boycott Nathaniel's Restaurant.

  73. 373

Dan Hilliard, you should be ashamed of yourself. Firing Stacey Fearnall based on her physical appearance is actionable. The added comment that she should `spend the summer with her children` is even more demeaning. You obviously think women work to amuse themselves. We work to take care of our families and secure their futures.

    Idiot.

  74. karen says – reply to this

that retaurant had to shut down for a few days
and shes had loads of job offers pouring in after that incident
and just to clear things up, she was not officially fired
    just on paid leave

in no way am i trying to justify it, my sister had a very rare cancer ..
infact a few years ago she participated in a cops for cancer event in newmarket.

    but yeah, lol
    what happened was wrong
but we only have a few douche bags like that ;]

She has done a great thing
I know school teacher in my community that have shaved there head for cancer…. and they have never gotten fired..

  82. 382

  83. Sara says – reply to this

    383

HOW THE HELL IS THIS CANADA'S FAULT? don't bash Canada because one person made a bad choice.
We Canadians don't bash the States because of that hospital who turned away a woman who's child was near death that they could have saved but chose not to because the mother didn't have insurance.
Its wrong of you to blame the whole country based on one woman who was prob a bad waitress anyways and would have lost her job in the first place. I'm sure there was way more to it then what you know.

  84. Rebecc says – reply to this

    384

    Perez,

For all the news casts I see on cnn.com about how f*cked up America is, for someone losing there job over a hair cut is a little less unacceptable than the way you F*ckers act, you f*ck rag

  91. shanno says – reply to this

    391

I live in Owen Sound and know the restaurant in question, Nathaniels, and really if you lived here you would say only in Owen Sound. We are such a backwards town. The owners have let it go to their heads that they have a "upscale" restaurant.
The cops for cancer campaign is a very big deal here and to fire someone for shaving their head in support of a worthwhile cause, is crazy, its like saying that they wouldnt let someone who is going through chemo treatment, dine in their establishment

  92. Fantas says – reply to this

    392

I live in Owen Sound, Ontario (where this incident happened) and know Stacey Fearnall's husband (he was my teacher for a few courses).
Canada shouldn't be at fault for this. The fault should be on the owners of the restaurant (Nathaniel's) that fired Stacey.
I understand that the restaurant wants to keep its image, but they should be proud that one of their [now-former] waitresses raised $2,700 for Cops for Cancer. Firing her was a big mistake because Nathaniel's is going to lose so much business.

I think you have anger management issues. In America, you can get help for that right away instead of waiting 4 weeks for an appointment.

What does this have to do with Canada?? Just because it happened here doesn't mean it wouldn't happen somewhere else.

Perez, you've become too one-sided again.
