this is not progress. No one deserves a free sex change. There are starving children in the world. WTF I'm so mad.
FREE sex changes?? i mean, come on, there has GOT to be something better to spend their money on…im all pro-gay or whatever, but to offer free SEX CHANGES? i think its pointless to get a sex change anyway, just the same as any surgury for cosmetic reasons only. i mean, there are too many people starving, take that money and feed somebody. do something that makes sense.
Surely it won't cost Cuba that much ~ How many people are gonna want a sex change? Though if they're free…
Great news! I'm glad Raul is so much more progressive than Fidel. That should be a great help to the .01% that want to lop off or ”augment” their genitalia.
Now maybe they can work on releasing gays, lesbians, and political prisoners from their hellhole jails; maybe they work on lifting their people out of poverty( oh yeah, that's the US' fault) or any of their other myriad of problems.

People do not just wake up one day and decide to change their gender because they are bored or something, trans gendered people are not some bimbos getting tit jobs because they are insecure about what they look like, they struggle to identify with who they really are inside and it is a battle most "normal"people could not fight.
I applaud this decision, the decision to help those who need this operation to become the person that they know they truly are, and as for the cost, they will not lose much because like I said, it IS NOT AT ALL like just going and getting your boobs done,people are not just going to run out and change their genders for vanity, for fun, probably only a handful a year, unlike the thousands a year in California alone who get their tits, nose, ass, tummy,etc done because they have nothing better to do and are so self absorbed that cosmetic surgery is the only thing they want to spend their money on.
Gender reassignment is not a joke, and I have watched a great friend struggle through it for the last 20 years that I have known this person,SHE is still waiting to have the man bits removed, I only wish my government would provide such an operation for her completely free, it is the only thing holding her back,cash.
No wonder why the world has such a bad impression of USA, the DEVIL we know, the one destroying the world.

PROGRESS?? Progress is reducing their carbon footprint, or feeding all of their poverty-stricken citizens. and just to be clear, when you say FREE… it's not really free. Everyone ELSE is paying for those through taxes… which are SO much higher there for the "affordable" healthcare. Pay it at the hospital when you actually need it, or pay it in taxes first, and you may not even use it then! No surgery is ever FREE, even though some choose to use the ER as their doctor's office and never pay… someone is paying for it!

I feel terrible for people who are in need of changing their gender. I can't imagine what your friend and others go through everyday, but the government should not pay for this surgery when they are not aiding people with life threatening illnesses. I am nothing but sensitive to the people who suffer with this mental anguish, but I'm not going to overlook a cancer or AIDS patient who is DYING because of it.
I find it really funny how people (Americans) can't think outside the confines of medical care = money. Medical care is not a non-renewable resource. It isn't comparable to oil, or gas. All medical care in Cuba is free, for everybody. It is a service you are entitled to as a citizen. Now that medical care will also include sex change operations.
