I find this so ironic. When I was getting called the "white bitch" in school and having people showing up to my door to jump me, it didn't call for the zero-tolerance rule because racism against whites doesn't count. Or what about how all my minority friends got to go to school for free (AND THEN ALL DROPPED OUT) while I was getting straight A's and not getting any financial aid? These are my fucking neighbors, so it's not like we're in different social classes. This song bothers you because you are suddenly confronted with the fact that perhaps you didn't earn everything you have all by yourself, but perhaps inherited and gain many of your privileges (and avoid being harassed or shot by the police for example) because you are white. Of course not all white people are privileged and to claim that they are is also ignorant, but Nas is not doing that in this song. Instead he's demonstrating the hardships black people have gone through and continue to go through today. If that makes you suddenly angry because it points out you are white, well then check yourself.

BUT, white people need to realize this: AS OF ABOUT 40 YEARS AGO, YOU'RE GRANDPARENTS AND UNCLES AND AUNTS WERE STILL DRAGGING US FROM PICKUP TRUCKS AND HANGING US FROM TREES AND DENYING US JOBS, AND NOT LETTING US USE THE SAME DOOR AS YOU, AND SENDING US TO JAIL OR KILLING US FOR LOOKING YOU IN THE EYE, OR EVEN JUST IN THE DIRECTION OF SOMEONE THAT WAS WHITE!!! 1950's-60's!! Even early '70's Don't wait till Feb., look it up. This shit didn't end that long ago!! Yeah, it's still fresh in our minds. My mother has a cigarette burn on her arm from a sit-in she participated in when she was about my age. My mother! How am I supposed to be removed from that?
The sense of entitlement white people tend to be raised with is as much the problem as the sense of inferiority black people tend to be raised with. If you look deeper, I think white people get so annoyed with black people, because they genuinely believe they are special because of their race, and don't understand why black people won't just fade in to the background and take the crumbs thrown to them like they're supposed to. Other races do it; damn black people are so stubborn! Why can't they stop talking about slavery? Right? Well, because the underlying belief that black people are "less than" is still prevelent. Just because you'll cough up $6.25/hr at McDonalds and hire some inner city kids, doesn't mean you feel that african-americans are equal to you. This is 2008; minimum wage pretty much leaves people in the same kind of shacks and squalor that slavery did. Go visit the south sometime so you can see what I mean.
I DARE a white person to admit this to themselves. SO proud of not being racist, as you want us to shut the fuck up about the struggles our community faces, because you don't care. My point is this: if communities of white people were suffering around you the way black people are, you would do something about it to help. Remember "A Time To Kill", and Matther Macona… I don't know/care how to spell his last name, making that speech about the little girl being attacked? The jury only got it when he said "now imagine she was white". Lightbulb! Black people are, wait for it… PEOPLE too! ::slow clap for the revelation:: Then, if you cared anything about basic human rights that EVERYONE is entitled to, you'd see how wrong you are. THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE LESS PIGMENT THAN OTHER PEOPLE DOES NOT MAKE YOU SUPERIOR! We still bring up slavery, because it was terrible. The Constitution still describes black people as 3/5 human. It's been amended of course, but it's still there, and as far as the course of history, slavery was recent! It just ended near the beginning of the last century!
White americans don't get sick of hearing about other tragedies of history. I never hear "oh my GOSH, will they STOP talking about Pharoh holding the hebrews as slaves? Geez, it's been thousands of years already!",(and I never got that: How did "good southern christians" justify slavery while reading in the Bible how wrong it is? Oh wait, that only applies to humans. Blacks are only 3/5 human, so it's ok. The constitution says so.) or "Can't they leave the Inqusition alone! Man, they stopped burning people didn't they? It's not a big deal!" But bring up something too close to home, too recent, that your ancestors probably participated in, whether they were "nice slave owners" or not, and it's "OH DAMN, STOP TALKING ABOUT THAT! IT'S OVER AND NOT MY FAULT! See, this is why we still hate you." Oh yeah, clean hands. Help these people out of all of the things you disapprove of then! If it's fixed, you won't have to complain about it. Oh wait, they're just black people, they're where they belong. Why can't they just stay there and be happy, right? No.
And DISCLAIMER: I'm using blanket statements to make a point. All white people aren't a certain way, all black people aren't a certain way, I know, I know. If I'm ripped apart about that, it means you couldn't find anything else wrong with my argument.

Oh yeah, why don’t you tell YOUR PEEPS if they wasn’t so busy following the money train and kissing ass for oil and paying more attention to what was going on in this country then English would still be the dominant language.
