I'm happy that Perez played this video as I doubt it highly that I'd ever see it any other way. Not to confuse, I'm not a fan of this video. I am not American and I'm also white. I've had many black friends and my best friend is black. I see the struggles that they face and I feel sorry for anyone who is judged based solely on the color of their skin instead of the level of their character or intelligence. However, I love the black community as my little adopted brother is from Haiti and my older sister is about to marry a large beautiful black man. I know there are people who still persecute the black race. However, I feel the black community represses themselves by hanging onto issues that happened so long ago. I actually find it very sad when a black person or group makes true all of the terrible stereotypes that have been placed on them. In this video, Nas comes across as the predictable angry black man. Okay, so I'm white. We have no choice of our color. We are who we are. I have raised my children to respect people of all colors, as we are all the same. We're all human. I have taught them that my door is open to anyone that they choose to date or marry or live with, or be friends with for that matter, no matter their color….white, black, brown, hell even purple. I don't care…as long as it's a good person that treats my child right (and my children KNOW they had better treat their loved ones right), I accept them as my own. Is it so hard to realize that over three hundred years of slavery and racial oppression had consequences, and that people will not just "get over it" in less than 150 years? It will take at least as much time, if not longer, to undue the damage done by the legacy of slavery in this country. There is no quick fix, and people of all colors are so ignorant when they don't realize that racial oppression is rooted in slavery, regardless of when the actual crimes occured.
All I have to say is WOW….I love NAs. Been loving Nas since I was 13. I don't care what ANYONE says, Nas spits knowledge and his words are so poetic and meaningful……NOBODY can confront Racism like NAS………well, except Kanye….cause he did a great job on TV……..LOVE the video!!!
This is the reason why racisim in this country will never die. Here you have a black man, successful, intelligent, talented….who is doing nothing but facilitating the same consistent mind set of blacks in America: that white people are your enemy. By pointing out all the flaws of his own race he just made it even more apparent that there will never be equality among any of us.
