Perez, you should really LISTEN a bit more closely. What Senator McCain is saying is that withdrawing troops is not as important as lowering the numer of casualties over in Iraq. We have troops stationed in many countries all over the world, because that is what we do in America, we assist other countries and rid them of their terrorist and torturous leaders. If we are to withdraw from Iraq, then we should withdraw from every other country and refuse to help anyone else, as well as close our borders. But that is not what America is about. Senator McCain is a very intelligent man and will be our new President.

From what I heard they aren't much. That said, I know it has to be incredibly hard to have a loved one over there but no one forced them to go. perez, although I appreciate your liberal stance and support many liberal social agendas (ie gay marriage, pro-choice) as most educated young Americans do, you need to understand what you are talking about before judging when it comes to politics. Republican doesn't automatically mean religious right, nor does it automatically mean George Bush.
If we left Iraq immediately it would injury the stability of the middleast as and therefore the United States. When we helped the mujahadeen of Afghanistan defeat the Russians in the 80s we were sharply criticized for immediate withdrawal, and surely enough, Afghanistan became a haven for organized terrorist activity which ultimately led the World Trade Center bombings. The problem with Iraq is that the war efforts were not led by a knowledgeable general but rather a civilian policitian (Donald Rumsfeld) who had minimal military experience.
He deviated from teh Powell Doctrine which calls for overwhelming force (named after Colin Powell), which is why, after Sadaam was ousted there were insufficient troops to stabilize the region. Unfortunately the media does not cover the success of the troop surge due to bias towards sensationalism and populism (emotionally popular issues that will sell newspapers, or these days internet clicks) not to mention general "left" biases.
McCain is far more suited for the presidency over Obama, period end of story. Obama is essentially a good speaker, and a charismatic person, however he is not the best suited person for the position. I would suggest that you be more even in terms of your position in politics and don't just follow Hollywood (I mean c'mon, have of Hollywood didn't even finish HIGH SCHOOL–should they really be an authority on political issues?! Conservatives give a greater portion of thier income, while libs are rather unwilling to open their OWN wallets. I prefer to give my donations directly to a charity or specific person, such as St. Judes, the local food banks, etc. That is how it should be…not the goverment keeping more and more of my money to allocate those $$'s as they see fit, esp. after wasting a major portion of what they take!

First, I am a Democrat who supports Obama. However, you are misconstruing his quote. He clearly is saying that he wants the number of troops and the number of mortalities to decrease in Iraq. His point was that a US presence in Iraq (which is its central presence in the middle east) may exist for decades. We have a military presence all over the globe. We have interests in the middle east and would be foolish to not have a long-term presence in that region. De-escalating the military presence is obviously important to him. I am wondering what you experience is in this region Perez?

I think we can all commend John McCain for his time served in Vietnam and as a POW in Hanoi. I just wish he would give the same support we give him (as a recipient of 100% Veteran disability) to our current military. He stated as did Bush that he opposes the GI Bill which our democratic congress just passed that will support our troops by providing them with $ and education. Perez, you should really LISTEN a bit more closely. What Senator McCain is saying is that withdrawing troops is not as important as lowering the numer of casualties over in Iraq. We have troops stationed in many countries all over the world, because that is what we do in America, we assist other countries and rid them of their terrorist and torturous leaders. If we are to withdraw from Iraq, then we should withdraw from every other country and refuse to help anyone else, as well as close our borders. But that is not what America is about. If we left Iraq immediately it would injury the stability of the middleast as and therefore the United States. When we helped the mujahadeen of Afghanistan defeat the Russians in the 80s we were sharply criticized for immediate withdrawal, and surely enough, Afghanistan became a haven for organized terrorist activity which ultimately led the World Trade Center bombings. The problem with Iraq is that the war efforts were not led by a knowledgeable general but rather a civilian policitian (Donald Rumsfeld) who had minimal military experience.
He deviated from teh Powell Doctrine which calls for overwhelming force (named after Colin Powell), which is why, after Sadaam was ousted there were insufficient troops to stabilize the region. Unfortunately the media does not cover the success of the troop surge due to bias towards sensationalism and populism (emotionally popular issues that will sell newspapers, or these days internet clicks) not to mention general "left" biases.
McCain is far more suited for the presidency over Obama, period end of story. Obama is essentially a good speaker, and a charismatic person, however he is not the best suited person for the position. I would suggest that you be more even in terms of your position in politics and don't just follow Hollywood (I mean c'mon, have of Hollywood didn't even finish HIGH SCHOOL–should they really be an authority on political issues?! These are not necessary educated or even smart people! (obviously a generalization with many exceptions

Conservatives give a greater portion of thier income, while libs are rather unwilling to open their OWN wallets. First, I am a Democrat who supports Obama. However, you are misconstruing his quote. He clearly is saying that he wants the number of troops and the number of mortalities to decrease in Iraq. His point was that a US presence in Iraq (which is its central presence in the middle east) may exist for decades. We have a military presence all over the globe. We have interests in the middle east and would be foolish to not have a long-term presence in that region. De-escalating the military presence is obviously important to him.
