Ingrate or Honorable?

An actor that doesn't want an award???
Shocking!!!
The LA Times says that when Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl was asked why her name is not on the TV academy's list of Emmy contenders, she issued this statement:
I am truly grateful for the honor that the Academy bestowed upon me last year. I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the Academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention. In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.
Some have said that Heigl's right on — her Grey's material did suck this year.
We don't watch the show. We wanna know…is she right and was this an 'honorable' thing for her to do cuz it leaves the field open to more 'deserving' actresses?
But, if she did have shitty material, was it right for her to call out the writers and show suits like she did?
Another theory is that she just forgot to submit her name for Emmy contention and she didn't want to admit it.
Does she think she's above the Emmys????
What do U think?

She HAD to drop out. gawd, if she got an award for the lousy writing their team did this past year for Grays…it would have made her question the earlier win (though well deserved). Fame did not get to her: she is being honest in a town full of "yes" folks. SO unusual to have an honest comment that it "jolts" you at first..then folks call her ungrateful. Always aim for a better story, better product, make sure you give the fans their best. If not, call the writers on the lousy story. Let's support her…and see if the actors get better materials/we get a better show next season ! Let' try something new: ask for better everything !
She needs to keep her mouth shut. I love Grey's but everything Heigl participates in she complains/gives negative press to/etc. It's bringing the TV Shows/Movies/Award Ceremonies down!
I don't know why people think she's so great. And T.R. Knight should have been the one to do it (if he wasn't even nominated), he's the worst actor!!!
can't believe you dont watch greys perez! she's right, she got shitty material this season, not even close to the others, her character was made to look kind of ditsy and too soft, way different than the past.
Her material did suck this season. She had a write to call the writer out on that. Her one shining moment was the season finale, where the writers actually gave her character some substance. I commend her for her decision. It took guts and integrity.
she's totally spot on. Her material was crap-tastic at best on this past season. I love her and the studio should give her the credit she deserves, her movies are top notch!
I am a huge fan of her and the show, but this season after the strike, her material did suck i dont blame her.
Don't love her and think that she comes across as being above the Emmy's. If you're going to be honored for something obviously someon out there thinks you're good enough so just do as my Nana would say "smile and say thank you."
First off no one cares about people who say First in a post.
Secondly, Heigl is a douchebag.
What she did wrong: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. It was unprofessional of her to pretty much bash the people who gave her a job.
What she did right: If she felt that the show or her lines weren't up to par then yes, someone else better deserves it. But was it good for her to take down her whole entire cast as well?
Didn't she want an out of GA? and just do movies?
May be shes trying to make a point that she isnt as useful on the show as previous seasons
:)
you never call out your coworkers publicly like this… she's a classless piece of trash for doing this.
For her sake, I hope she forgot to submit her name.
Otherwise she seems as if she believes she is too good, and they may never nominate her again.
Also the bash on the writers was indirect, but still hurts
She is one of my favorite actresses that have recently boomed, and to tell you the truth i beleive she has high morals. if she feels though she did good but not great enough to win a grammy, and to pass it up to someone who she beleives is more qualified to win, she has ballz in other words. she seems to be a great person and i guess she has proven it to the world by stepping back to what she feels is right then to stand up and receive something she beleives she doesnt deserve yet. . ( To those who are still being nominated be happy she gave it away) i
look at her hip bones sticking out of her dress. sick!
Pretentious … over inflated ego…and….. rude!
i think she is right on. her greys stuff was not anything special this year - kudos to her for leaving the award open for other actress!
Just another reason why I hate this girl. Way to bite the hand that feeds you! She could've just said no comment or not mentioned it at all but she had to insult the writer's and make herself feel like she's better than everyone else. I hate people who try to be martyrs. Suck it up! Who are you to decide what's good and what's not? I'm sure this is really going to make the writer's want to give her better material. She thinks because she had a hit movie that she's better than the show that made her huge? Take a look at Shelley Long because that's where you're headed.
This came across like she's a total b&$@*. If you get a nomination you should graciously accept it, not say you don't want it - and make it public. Or, she should have said she wasn't deserving quietly. She always has to have everyone know what's going on in her life and she comes across like a B. Yeah, her material this year sucked, but maybe the writers don't like her, and when you act like you're better than all of your castmates then why would they give you anything good? She also publicially asked for more $ from Grey's. Her Mom needs to give her a good slap across the face and tell her to come back to reality.
While she can do whatever she wants, I think it's a slap in the face to the writers at Greys to say that she wasn't given good enough material. What I think is really going on is shes REALLY trying to find a way out of her contract so she can make movies instead. Even though she wouldnt have a movie career if it wasnt for Greys….
It is a known fact that she has been trying to get out of her Contract with Grey's to follow her growing movie career. This is a good way to piss off the Producers of the show and get herself fired. She wants them to Kill her character.
She keeps it classy.
I agree with her. The writers screwed her character over this season. She worked with what she had but it wasn't much. She'll be norminated again and the next time she will deserve it.
Good job by her. Classy because Grey's bit the big one this year.
Wouldn't have bothered mentioning other actresses though. such a lie to make yourself look good~!
I think Katherine is right on to do this. this last season on Grey's was more about some of the other characters than Izzie. she didnt have a lot of Emmy worthy material to work with. I love her and I cant wait to see what happens with Izzie and everyone else on the next season!
I wish she would go away! She is a much greater actress in her mind than is portrayed on the screen and to top it all off, she is a total uppity bitch! I used to like her when she didnt think so highly of herself, but now that she has become such an egomaniac, I can't stand to look at her. What, does she think that she is such a good actress that even with shitty writers she would still win the Emmy??? That is bascially what she said with a little sugar on top. GO AWAY!!!
she saved the life of a deer in the season premiere…her shit was TERRIBLE.
This was very classy of her.
She didnt have much material to work with this year.
She's been trying to figure a way out of her contract since she broke into film. What better way to get fired or shoved out of a contract than by pissing off the writers?
I think she is beautiful and great and yea grey's didnt give her very good material this season. i dont think anything can top season 1
Re: Tiffa – IDIOT CUNT
I think Heigl wants to get out of her contract. So, I think she's sabotaging things, daring them to fire her. But, she's probably just a bit arrogant and stupid (considering what she said about Knocked Up last year as well).
Grey's did suck this year, and her character sucked, too. But, why should she assume she'd win? And, why not withdraw her name without giving attitude? She could even have said that she was withdrawing because she believes that the five nominees should include women who haven't won before, and even if she was so lucky to be considered…she'd feels she doesn't deserve the honor. Whatever. Anything, really, besides what she did.
Her role did suck this past year, and she wan't very good in it. However honourable? I think not, considering she wants out of her contract in order to pursue movies…she probably said it to piss the producers off and get her contract ended early!
She will definitely not have a career after slamming writers…It is a very small world in Hollywood & she is biting the hands that feed her. People remember…Good luck getting nominated for anything else or perhaps having a job.
This post was really disappointing, but not surprising coming from this particular actress. It's one thing to decline a nomination (Candice Bergen, Oprah) out of respect for other strong potential nominees. It's a pathetic and ungrateful move when you backhand the mouth that feeds. She disliked her storyline and felt that producers didn't find her work valuable enough for a larger raise (of what I'm assuming is easily above $50,000 per episode) on Grey's and disliked her character's actions in Knocked Up. After over a decade of working in an industry that millions would give up so much to be a part of, one would think she'd have learned to be a little more appreciative of the fame and fortune. If she doesn't like the writing, then she needs to go away…for a long time. There's a fine line between being classy and being a bitch.
She was barely on the show this season. She only seemed to have one scene per episode, and it was always supplementing another character's plot.
Why is she assuming that they were going to nominate her. Really egotistical and pretentious move on her part.
She was spot on about not being given good material, but I don't think she needed to say it so bluntly. I wonder if she is just trying to piss off the Grey's people because she was so pissed that she couldn't get out of her contract.
Wow, sounds like just one more story of too much fame, fortune, and over-exposure - that seems to sometimes create delusions of grandeur!
Katherine, you have proven that YOU are your own biggest fan … touch down to reality … remember, TV and movie fame can fade quickly!
Katherine, think about Michael Richards (Kramer), Philip Michael Thomas (Tubbs on the original Miami Vice) and so many more, which I can't think of right now! (Exactly; that's the point). Katherine, be grateful, enjoy your quick ride, appreciate your huge piles of money and SHUT UP already.
she's right her character in this season is shitty… she's just being honorable and honest…
ingrates…her role wasn't reduced! Greys had to accomodate her filming schedule. that's why she had less material to work with. she is an ungrateful biotch who wants out of her contract and behaves badly when she is there. she talks back to the director and shows complete lack of respect to those who are there to help mae the job easier.
I think that it was extremly honorable of her to do, She is 100% right her character for Greys this year was terrible when years prior she was great and the material was great! Good for her to take the high road and admit this because many other would not!
i think her material did suck this year but i think that's really rude. you should accept an nomination and not be hurtful about it.
What the fuck is so "honorable" about what she did? Why does she think that what she does even matters? She is so nothing and completely insignificant in this world yet she acts like what she does has an impact on anyone. YOU ARE A FUCKING ACTRESS BITCH; YOU AREN'T THE FUCKING DHALI LAMA! GET OVER YOURSELF. YOUR ONLY JOB IS TO STAND INFRONT OF A CAMERA AND SAY THE LINES THAT ARE GIVEN TO YOU.
“Hi, I’m Katherine Hiegl, I am a martyr for things that don’t matter and that aren’t going to make a difference to anybody; like standing up for my famous rich actor friends when other rich famous actors say mean things in the vicinity of them. And maybe someday no famous rich actor will ever have to be sad when they overhear someone say something that may or may not be about them. Also, I would like to invite other actors to join in the fight to making sure no actor receives an award that they don’t deserve, this is a cause that is very close to my heart, because as you may all know, I removed my name from the Emmy list of contenders in 2008. I AM BITCH, HEAR ME ROAR!”
evidently she was more focused on her film career than her tv show in the past year. i'm hearing that the producers gave her all of the time off that she needed to focus on that and now she's slamming the show for lack of exposure on the show. who knows what is true, but if that is the case, shame on her… at any rate, i love the show but her character has always annoyed me…
i think its refreshing that someone actually speaks out and says the show isnt as great as it once was…i watch it and i know,
i just hope all this speaking out isnt going to catch up to her
Honestly I thought Izzie got really annoying on Grey's last season. She actually got less annoying this season IMO. I don't think it matters whether she withdrew her name b/c she didn't get good material or b/c she thinks she's too good for the Emmy's…whatever the reason, it's ridiculous for her to call out the writers like that. The only reason anyone knows who she is is b/c of Grey's Anatomy…way to bite the hand that feeds you! This seems just like a bratty thing for her to do, just like when she threw a fit b/c she didn't make as much money as Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh. She's the new Kim Cattrall!
b.s.
Passive aggressive bitchiness.
Why not just ignore the question? Why play the blame game?
I don't think she had great material this season. I honestly don't think this season was that spectacular at all. There was no real memorable moments this season compared to prior seasons.
In prior seasons, we had the Izzy and Denny drama - which many of us remember as one of her greatest performances on the show!
I think she's being absurd. Granted, her character did suck at life on Grey's this season and I want nothing more than for her character to leave the show.
However, the Grey's rep is ABSOLUTELY right. These are the same writers that got her an Emmy last year. I'm very proud of her for not taking up the space of someone more suitable, BUT that did not give her the right to be so harsh on the writers.
This is the same bullshit she pulled with Knocked Up. She did it and it built up her fame and then once she got famous for it she did an interview badmouthing it and calling it sexist.
She needs to learn to keep her mouth shut and be more respectful, because without Grey's Anatomy and Knocked Up, she NEVER would've gotten 27 Dresses (which wasn't THAT great of a movie ANYWAY) and she wouldn't be nearly as famous as she is today.
We cannot forget, this is the girl that was in Wish Upon a Star that shit-eous Disney Channel made-for-TV movie that was like a parody of Freaky Friday.
Maybe she should count her blessings and keep her mouth shut except to puff on her cancer sticks.
I think she needs to SHUT-UP. Ever since the Grey's F-bomb incident (and way after it) she has not SHUT-UP. SHUT-THE-HELL-UP!
HONORABLE, I say. This chick so rocks. Shut up? Don't you dare!!!
Silly actress; you were nominated for your ACTING skills, not your WRITING skills. The question is, how well did you do with the material you were given? If Dame Judi can be nominated for an Oscar based on 7 minutes of screen time, you can be nominated for an entire season's worth of work.
Her intentions may be good. (*Cough*) However, her logic sucks.
well.. yes and no in the beginning it looked like it was gonna be something good between izzy and george and then it just fell apart. this season for the whole cast was pretty shitty. I mean all the drama with washington kinda put an x on the season and then with meredith and derek not hooking up at all was terrible! they really didn't do much with izzy's character, made her second guess herself ALOT which was boring.. She seemed to finally get back in to the swing of things the last two episodes of the season when she was helping alex out. Hopefully next season will be alot better. So no i don't think she was in the wrong for declining the award, and I guess you could call it honorable!!!
A great actress will take shit material and make it their own.
Enough said.
I watch the show… and Katie's character didn't have much to do this season, it's true. But there was a strike… and they were trying to honor what work she DID do. She's being a b*tch! A few hit movies turned her into a diva, and without Grey's, she would STILL be a nobody!!
I love her & couldn't agree with her more. Izzie's my favorite on Grey's but this year she just wasn't as intriguing.
And anyone who says she thinks she's "above the Emmy's" is out of their mind. She's the most down-to-earth person ever, she knows what she's doing.
I think what Katherine did was honerable. She did not say the writers gave her crap material she said that she did not have the material deserving of an Emmy nomination. Let's face it, Last year she had the very dramatic scenes with her dying lover…. this season she was really a back story. I don't believe the writers would be upset by her comment.
Katherine is very admirable to put her craft over ego… we should applaud that not attack it.
her character (izzie) is not exactly my favorite in grey's anatomy but she is right, her part this season was kinda dry, especially because the season before was almost about her (some of her problems outshone meredith's -the main character of GA)
ps: perez hilton doesn't watch grey's anatomy…. hmm, that just doesn't sound right!
If she didn't feel she was deserving of the award fine, that was honorable, but I think speaking about it publically made her look more like an attention monger. Yes, her storyline was alittle weak this year, but she had a large storyline in previous seasons. When a show has a large cast it seems as if a difference sub-set of actors are given the limelight one year and not the next. Sandra Oh had a much smaller role this year after her big storyline last year (Burke's hand/the wedding, etc).
I think she is an ingrate. Ungrateful little brat. if her material sucked so bad why would she think she would be nominated anyway. If the process had any intergrity she wouldn't have to eliminate her self the owrk would speak for itself. Who does she think she is? Ellen, Rosie, or some other women with 8 or 9 emmy's?
She was spot on. She was barely in the season, and her story line sucked. I think that she made a smart and respectful move. If anyone at Grey's is pissed with her it's because they know she is right… or they didn't watch their own show.
