They used to do this with the Beetles. My mom told me when she was young, she and other girls would wait outside the hotels in hopes that they would meet them.

As I said before, you can't really compare TH's crowd in the states with the crowd of the JB's.
TH's management leaked all the info about hotels etc. and told the fans to go there and meet the boys.
But in europe it is indeed really big when TH are somewhere. There are indeed 100+ fans waiting for them at airports, hotels etc.
But all the fuss in the states was mostly possible because management did tell where the boys were staying at.
you'd be scared when you saw tokio hotel fans in europe :')
