Banned! The Catholic Church Hates Tom Hanks!

Filed under: Film Flickers > Mel Gibson > Tom Hanks

tomandron.jpg

Looks like nice guy Tom Hanks and director Ron 'Opey' Howard couldn't charm their way into the hearts of Rome's Catholic diocese.

Rome church officials have banned the crew of Hanks' latest film, Angels & Demons, from filming in two of the city's churches.

Angels & Demons is the 'prequel' to the blockbuster The Da Vinci Code.

The Da Vinci Code book and flick angered many Catholics across the world.

According to a diocese spokesman, the movie's filming requests were turned down because the movie "does not conform to our views." said Monsignor Marco Fibbi, a spokesman for the diocese.

The source reports that calls to Sony Pictures (the studio in charge) in London and Rome were not immediately returned Monday.

Too bad super Catholic Mel Gibson isn't a producer!

Re: Linda – you're wrong, linda. As a lifelong catholic, I can tell you we do not hate homosexuals. They are welcome in any parish. Catholic means "open to all". Catholics disagree with the sexual act of homosexuals because it takes away the 'natural act' of procreation. Perez, I'm a huge fan and you are welcome at my parish any day :) You will feel welcomed, belonged, and loved :)

oh sony pictures - another studio totally run by secular jews who have NO sensitivity for christians, catholics, etc…it's all about the $.$.$.$. with the J.E.W.S..

  4. 104

I don't thnk the Catholic church hates Tom but they sure are pissed about the story. A few years ago, I was at the Church of Mary Magdalene in Jerusalem. Our tour guide was quietly asking if my husband or I had read the Da Vinci code. I told him I had but he explained the basic plot, i.e. that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had a child together. A very angry nun came over and chastised us, "You will not spread your lies here." He tried to explain he was just talking about a book but she continued to become more irate. We promised her we would no longer discuss it, scowlingly, she left us alone.
Bottom line? Never piss off a nun.

  5. 105

The pope is a direct descendent of Jesus! HA HA HA! you romans are too funny. The secular left wing jews are anti all religion including judaism. The catholic church is the worst thing inflicted on humanity

  6. 106

Protestants branched off of Roman Catholocs. In other wards they came AFTERWARDS. The Pope is considered a direct "descendant" of Jesus , therefore anyone who is Anglican, Protestant etc…is not a true religion, because they all came AFTER the Roman Catholic Church and do not have a true leader and will not be offered salvation as a result. Did you think it was otherwise? You must be very devout:)

YOU ARE AN IDIOT! GO PRAY THE ROSARY AND TO MARY AND JOSEPH AND HAVE 8 CHILDREN YOU DUMB ASS CATHOLIC BITCH

    107

    Come on…this totally makes sense.
The plot of the book is based on the Pope being so in love with a nun that he wants to have a family with her - but they can't because that would involve S-E-X…and ew, ick, ew the Pope would never want to have sex - solution is for the nun to have IVF! Stupid right?
The Pope is "Mr. Life begins at conception" - IVF has conception happen in the lab, then grow to 4 cells and then finally introduced into the mother. A real gift and miracle to many many people - but to believe that the Pope would prefer IVF over sex is STUPID!
So why would the Vatican allow a movie to use their stuff when the movie is based on the Pope #1 having a girlfriend and #2 being afraid of sex #3 having IVF? It was stupid of Speilberg to even ask for permission.

Good for us. I don't want some plane/train reading material shot in some glorious church. Catholicism has created some of the most sensational art in the history of the world. Dan Brown has created boring prattle.

Yeah really tolerant. That's why the have missonaries, you know so those heathens can learn to worship the right god. Catholics are tolernt to their priests when they molest kids, but will boot a nun out of the church because she says god is speaking to her. The Catholic church is only tolerant if you pay them well.

TO ALL Catholic Badmouthers: You are totally 1000%WRONG. The Catholic Church is the UNIVERSAL church, meaning it was instituted for the UNIVERSE, the World, Everyone, everywhere. It was created by Jesus at the Last Supper, all the other churches /religions came AFTERWARDS, they branched off because, they were not "happy" that is why you have, baptists, lutherans, methodists, protestants, etc etc, . You can call a Catholic/or Catholicism stupid all you want but in the end it is the single most important thing God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit has left for your soul and salvation, and yes one day you will get to really pick one, heaven or hell. You need to educate yourself on the Catholic Church before you go bad mouthing it.

Saying "Too bad super Catholic Mel Gibson isn't a producer!" does not make any sense…… Obviously since Mel is a Catholic, he would not go around making movies that go against what the church believes. I think its totally understandable that the church said they could not film there…. you have to be respectful…..and saying the Catholic church hates Tom is unfair- I'm sure Tom is a great man, he has just chosen to do a movie based on lies- there is no hatred there.

    149

Right on! Churches are NOT movie sets. Glad the catholic church held thier own…so tired of pompous hollywood thinking they can do what ever the fuck they want when they want in the name of thier over blown egos. Trust me i love hollywierd, but there is a limit. This limit Opie and Gump feel they can surpass. Thats exactly whats wrong with the world these days. No respect, no tradition…sad. I was raised catholic and i love my religion. However, not one religion is perfect, and all are flawed in some way. Its very true when these religions have been rewritten by man, cause where there is man,…there is always room for error. I may not agree with everything the catholic religion states, but I respect it and all religions alike. God is so loving he allows us to interpet how see him and how we choose to praise him. Damn hollywood can suck ass when you take away the money, glamoure, and fame.

Re: Jen – I like your post. I feel the Catholic church (or whatever sect of Christianity states that it is the true church of Jesus or God or the right and only way) is going by their bible which could very well be tampered by man like everything else in the world is and could be incomplete. It is my contention that if Jesus were alive today, his true teachings would ring clear. He wouldn't be with any one church. He would be preaching on the streets, helping the poor and sick, and accepting everyone. He would be about love, peace, and tolerance. You cannot have a totally loving perfect God and a damning intolerant judging God. To me saying you can is like saying God is imperfect like us humans and he has to learn. I personally think it's crazy that Christians or anyone else for that matter fight amoungst themselves.

omg i LOVED the Da Vinci Code!! It was the best book ever!! I'm a Catholic and I still love this book and movie. The whole reason i read it in the first place was because i saw a sign outside a church that said Da Vinci Code? I don't think so.

Everyone has their opinion, and everyone is free to express it, that's what is so beautiful about our country. However, I don't believe that bashing everyone and everything in sight is what that freedom of speech was meant for. I am Catholic, and yes, we have had some scandals, but NO, the church does not think it's ok. For every priest who has abused a child, there are hundreds of Catholics out there who are against it. That's why priests who abuse children are banned from celebrating masses and are removed from parishes. That's why they receive major counseling and therapy. And if Hollywood producers/directors wanted to come into your home and film something you were completely against, would you allow them to? Money aside, it's about the principle of the thing. Good for the church for standing up for their morals.

And BTW Perez, did you not attend a prestigious Catholic school in your youth?

Re: ingri – ingri- are you implying that if the Church allowed the movie to be filmed in their churches then that would somehow feed the poor? They aren't the ones "worrying" about a movie. They said "no" to a request to film there. How is that "worrying" about the movie? And what does their disapproval of the movie have to do with poverty? The Church works tirelessly to feed & clothe the poor. I myself was a recipient of the Church's kindness in that regard.
