Disastrous!

wenn1264980__opt.jpg

It must be hard for an artist to realize they are no longer as popular as they once were.

Sheryl Crow is currently on tour across America and it's a big ol' bomb.

The All I Wanna Do singer's trek has sold so poorly! It's embarrassing!

Sheryl is playing to MOSTLY EMPTY venues across the U.S.

Here's a breakdown of some of her recent gigs, according to Boxscore.

Crow performed at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Pelham, Ala, on May 23rd. The venue holds 10,469 people and only 2,973 bought tix.

Ouch!

Things are so bad, that Sheryl couldn't even fill a small-to-midsize venue in New York City!!!!

Crow performed at the Rumsey Playfield in NYC on May 29th. That venue holds 5,500 people and only 3,489 bought tix.

In NYC!

Similar story in Cincinatti, where Crow played on May 25th. The National City Pavilion holds 4,114 people and only 2,790 bought tix.

It was only a summer or two ago that John Mayer was opening for Sheryl and she was headlining huge venues.

Now she can't fill small ones!

How sad.

IMO…just don’t think her age group is into her folksy type of music. The world is changing and I think we want (need) upbeat music.

WHo wants to pay 100 or even 50 dollars,
if you can even get a ticket because all the scalpers
cleaned out the internet sales site.
I gave up going to live shows, for anybody
It's like stupid to tour now.

It's not Sheryl, it's the fucking economy. Even Springsteen isn't selling that well.

I think it's a combination of ticket prices and non-existent promotion. The very cheapest nosebleed tickets for my city are $80 each!

    112

I used to like her back in the day. But I don't listen to her anymore, why? Because all her songs sound the same. Aren't artists supposed to grow (musically)? Plus I do not go to large venues, they are a huge waist of money. If I wanted to see a band/artist on a screen then I would watch them on tv not go to a concert where it is so impersonal.

Where do you reside again, Perez? Is it "Miammi"? I can understand typos on occassion, but you spell Cincinnati the same way EVERY time you write it. This is fundamental ignorance…like the kind you are supposed to shed in gradeschool.

Not only does no one want to see her but she doesn't sound all that great either!!!1

John Mayer did not open for Sheryl. It was a co-headlining tour. Most of the people there were to see John and left while Sheryl was performing.

    116

I just saw Sheryl live and she is tremendous. She sounds just as good live as she does on the radio. Not only is she a great singer but she is a classy and strong woman!

    117

She's tanking in part because of her anti-American rhetoric as well as her anti-global warming castigating. People are tired of having hypocritcal Celebutards
admonishing their lifestyle choices (driving SUV's, eating meat, etc.). I distinctly recall Ms. Crow admonishing us to use just one square of toilet paper, "maybe 2-3 for those really pesky situations." After a severe public backlash, she retracted that statement and said she was "only joking". Unfortunately, Celebutards live in an artificial bubble created by a fawning public and media flak.

The music business, in general, is on a downhill slide so you need to be a bit more thorough in your non-research, idiot. The economy is not in a good shape right now and digital music is also changing the face of the music business as we have always known it. When people are having to pay over $4 per gallon on gasoline, while the cost of their groceries and utilities continue to climb as a result of the gas crisis, they aren't going to be able to spend $40-$50 (at least) per ticket to see concerts. Everyone's "disposable income" has now become bill money. We're not buying albums, concert tickets, or any other thing that we can live without. It really has nothing to do with the popularity (or lack thereof, which is yet to be determined) of any single artist. We just can't afford to take the family out for expensive evenings anymore. Maybe you should step back to the real world where people aren't handing you thousands of dollars to do absolutely nothing but run a bogus website and you might better understand the situation and stop talking out of your ass.

  21. JMT says – reply to this

    121

@ you': it was a co-headlining tour. Do you know the meaning of "co-headliner"?

  22. Liz says – reply to this

    122

Has anyone considered the fact that the economy sucks and people just aren't willing to spend the kind of money they use to for entertainment? I love ya perez but come on…you know we are going through a recession. I'm not a fan of her's but she is talented. XOXO

    123

I have to say, I saw her play in los angeles last week, to a pretty full venue with a few empty seats up top, and she is one of the best live shows i've ever seen. her band is absolutely phenomenal and she really sang her heart out, so if people aren't going to see her it's a real shame, she is a legend!!!

  24. A1A says – reply to this

Just in case you did not see the other dozen comments, the city is Cincinnati.

  25. ayeah says – reply to this

  26. Sara says – reply to this

    126

I just saw her at the Greek in LA and it was nearly sold out…and it was a really amazing concert…I'm not even the biggest cheryl fan and I loved the concert. She was lovely and inspring…who fucking cares if she doesn't sell out every concert venue she performs at…greedy bastards.

  27. Calcb says – reply to this

    127

I saw her open for Crowded House years back. She was decent. But concert tickets are too expensive.

I have stubs when you could see a show for $7.50.

  28. Shann says – reply to this

    128

    Cincinnati - not Cincinatti

  29. CHiPs says – reply to this

    129

Ah, memories! Yeah, she opened for the Crowded House in 1994. I saw a couple of those shows. Great times. Anyway, Sheryl Crow today is a better performer, and above all, she's much more confident on stage.

  30. Shan says – reply to this

    130

I was at the Rumsey show in NYC and it was packed. She put on an amazing show and her new CD is almost her best to date. The economy is hurting everyone. Sheryl is a true artist and I'm glad she's still out there trucking on.

  31. Jes says – reply to this

    131

i was reluctantly at the show in pelham. didn't pay for the tickets. my cousins got over 20 for free. i guarantee a huge amount of the people there didn't pay to see the show. … and it was terrible

  32. Sabri says – reply to this

    132

Sheryl and John split the headlining between the northern and southern states. Please do not make it sound like she was some kind of star who overshadowed even John Mayer because she didn't. At all.

  33. High5 says – reply to this

    133

I don't know about the tickets, but she's getting many great reviews for her tour this year.

  34. BDB says – reply to this

    134

If most are like me I go to be entertained . People on the left and right don't want to pay to hear and artist spew his/her politics. Maybe the industry would be well advised to take a neutral pos. while on the intertainment stage and save the campaging for the politigal rallies. MAYBE NOT??? I know I have quit going when I know they are giving political talks instead of entertaining i.e. Dixi Chicks

  35. Julie says – reply to this

    135

John Mayer didn't open for Sheryl, if anything she opened for him. I def. bought the ticket because John Mayer was playing NOT Sheryl Crow. She did put on a good show, although she was clearly drunk towards the end.

  36. lilly says – reply to this

I Love Sheryl Crow!! I'd kill to see her live.

Re: confo – Yep you guys are smarter than us conservatives. We would never have dreamed up selling carbon credits so the the rich libs can keep polluting while making Millionairs of Gore . He also has sold the world that his theroy is over the Sun Spot therory even though the data favors the Sun Spot therory. YEP you guys can really promote a skam better than us dummies. But you will have to admit you do need some really stupid people in your camp to believe this shit.

  38. T bon says – reply to this

    138

oh shut up already! Once again, you have no idea what you are talking about! Sheryl and John Mayer took turns performing first during that tour. Mat Kearny opened. Idiot.

You are just jealous because you have no talent.

  39. 139

Could it also be from lack of promotion? I haven't even heard about the tour before this! I'd go see her!!

  40. Gas $ says – reply to this

    140

It's not that these stars are not liked anymore, well, maybe in Asslee's case. But the economy is sooo bad. Kids are buying gas at 4 bucks+ a gallon. Which drives the price of all good up because of trancpot costs, growing, etc. These people shoud put on free shows, or cheap shows…. you will see a turnout then.

  41. No mo says – reply to this

    141

I wish I could go see her, but I don't have any money left after filling up my car, getting my food for the month, paying off my student loan, insurance…you get the picture.

  42. Nikki says – reply to this

    142

I went to the Cincinnati show…but only to see Jason Mraz as the opening act. Left as soon as he left the stage lol …and I def. wasn't the only one walking out once he was done.

  43. Ilean says – reply to this

    143

I saw her in L.A., it was packed and she was great.

  44. georg says – reply to this

The economy is the problem, gas for the car or concert tickets–easy choice.

  45. 0utsp says – reply to this

Maybe not everyone is a fan, but I gotta say that last week I saw her in concert at the Greek Theater and she put on a great concert.

  46. randa says – reply to this

    146

Oh now you have really done it. So, things may be a little slow right now for Sheryl. However, I can guarantee you one damn thing, you fuckin pie hole..Her name will be remembered LOOOOONG after your dumb ass shit is!

  47. chefl says – reply to this

    147

Is anybody selling anything these days? The economy is horrible. Noone has extra money to spend on anything.

  48. JanSc says – reply to this

    148

I love Sheryl's music and would love to see her live. But its the economy stupid. It's an hour's drive here in Michigan to see any performer for me. I wanted to see Cindy Lauper and Lyle Lovett and and a bunch of other singers. But I am paying a lot for gas, I need a new roof, my house insurance almost doubled, yada yada yada. SO I bought her new album. I would like to think it will be better next year with people having more discretionary cash but I am not holding my breath. Is anybody selling the big venues entirely out? We will all be needing more cash for food and utilities etc this summer and on. Better to buy a cd than have your electricity turned off instead because you spent too much when you shouldn't. Go buy her cd, its good.

Isn't being a breeder good enough for her? She should stay at home and parent her brat instead.

  52. Matt says – reply to this

    152

Correction: John Mayer and Sheryl Crow traded headlining slots in 2006. Neither of them was an opener.

  53. justi says – reply to this

    153

I just saw her last weekend and she was great, and I'm not even a super fan or anything. The venue was sold out and people paid as much as $250 per ticket, so i think she's doing OK. She was really cool when she spoke to the audience and seemed really down to earth. Not everyone can sell out the big arena shows. Seriously, how many bands can do an arena tour any more?

  54. Allis says – reply to this

    Spell Check Perez….

    cincinNATI.

    :)

  55. caroa says – reply to this

    155

All right, her popularity has waned. But that doesn't make her Avril Lavigne.

At least she had some real, adult, grown-up driven success.

Time to go back to Missouri.

  56. Crow# says – reply to this

    156

Sheryl Crow still rocks - check out her new CD Detours. It's a great CD with intelligent lyrics and great hooks, not the trite crap that gets played on the radio these days. The economy is more to blame than anything else. What is the point of this website? Who is Perez Hilton anyway? I honestly thought they were saying Paris Hilton all this time, I never knew there was a difference. After seeing this website, there really isn't a difference.

  57. quita says – reply to this

    157

You know why she's not selling well? It's because she spouts her liberal bs at her concerts and no one wants to hear it! I like her music and that's what I pay to hear. I don't want to her her political views/opinions/bashing. She's a musician, not a political commentator. That's why I won't be seeing her again over the summer.

  58. ML says – reply to this

    158

uhm john mayer did NOT open for sheryl crow. they did a joint tour. he is by far a better artist than her.

  59. jaim says – reply to this

    159

John wasn't opening for Sheryl they were co-headlining they switched who played first every other night and both played full sets. So who knows who was there for Sheryl.
