Let's see, you don't like Coldplay so you are sure happy to post this video. Yeah there are some similarities in the melody. What is great about the Coldplay song is the layering of the violins. Plus, the lyrics are super cool.
I don't like Gwyneth Paltrow very much either and Chris seems to be a bit of a pretentious douche but I love Coldplay and am enjoying their new disc.
Just a reminder, there are only so many notes that can be combined to make music.

The original tracking of the song in question was completed long before March when Chris was supposedly in Austin at SXSW. Meaning the vocal was already commited to tape before even the 1st of January. -BE [London]

It's a pretty simple melody based mimics a chord progression that's used in many, many songs. Aside from that, the instrumentation is completely different (strings and percussion versus synth), and the lyrics are worlds apart. This is far from plagiarism.
First off there is almost no resemblance whatsoever. Second, do you honestly believe in your heart of hearts that Coldplay listened to some talentless no name band, and said, "Alright boys… that's our new sound." This is not a story! Get over your little daddy issues… and get a job dude.

in the end, i'm just grateful perez posted the creaky boards song, because the Coldplay melody was nice, but I hated the production and lyrics. Now I can listen to the same cute melody, but played in a much more compelling way along with much more personal lyrics.
