Talk about hypocrisy!
Hardcore environmentalist and the man behind An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore, is apparently not following what he preaches.
Gore has taken steps this past year to make his Tennessee home more energy-efficient. However, it looks like the OPPOSITE took place.
According to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, Gore's home energy use has risen by more than 10% over the past year!
The amount of energy used in his home during the past year could have powered about 232 homes in the US for an entire month!
Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, says "A man's commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home. Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption."
Shortly after the Tennessee Center for Policy Research first exposed Gore's home energy use, the former VP tried to quickly make changes to his home energy consumption.
Gore installed a geothermal system, solar panels, replaced the home's ductwork and windows, and even added energy efficient light-bulbs.
However, his new and energy efficient looking house is now waisting even more power.
How is that possible????
Gore was originally burning up an average of 17,768 kWh per month, which is 1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations. The energy consumption costs him $16,533.
According to the Energy Information Administration, the average American household consumes only 11,040 kWh in an entire year. That's over 6,000 kWh less than Gores uses in a month!
TCPR President Johnson, added, "Actions speak louder than words, and Gore's actions prove that he views climate change not as a serious problem, but as a money-making opportunity. Gore is exploiting the public's concern about the environment to line his pockets and enhance his profile."
The reason for those comments?
When the film An Inconvenient Truth was released in 2007, Gore won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. He also won a Grammy, an Oscar, and the Nobel Peace Prize.
It seems Gore's made quite a lot of money promoting for a greener environment.
He made an estimated extra $100 million last year.

Hey, notice that this news came out so soon after Al Gore endorsed Obama, I wouldn't be surprised if the Republicans are involved in this. If someone installed Solar Panels and Geothermal energy there is almost no way their energy bill could go up unless they seriously increased their usage. Also perhaps the energy usage increase was recorded during the construction, which I think could raise a bill that much. Please also note that ones Electricity bill is confidential information, the person who leaked this information should be fired. And finaly Al Gore should be a perfect example and use way less the the average American Energy Consumption, however the amount of awareness and money he donates far off-sets the amount of Carbon he uses.

And this is supposed to come as a surprise? Gore has been talking out of both sides on this issue for a long time. People need to wake up and realize we will see another Ice Age before global warming boils our oceans. Major global environmental scientists are changing their positions on global warming, go look it up, it isn't that hard to seek out the facts, you just have to be willing to do it. Point, the surface temp. on the earth was higher years ago than it is today. Also, how many people here knew that the methane gas from cows does more damage to our ozone layer than cars on the road.
Is global warming real, yes? Is it as bad as Gore says it to be, no. His movie has been bunked my top scientists in the field, so I know not to believe every word that comes out of this man's mouth, which should be the normal practice when listening to any politician speak.

I urge everyone to do research on this Global Warming BS….. Because that's what it is… It's a shame Gore uses scare tactics to make people believe that the world is coming to an end.. I would like to see his energy use next to the energy use of other homes the size of his. Also, I would expect that the cost of renovations to the home (i.e. equipment, workers, etc.) would use more energy during construction, which would go into the year's average.
I just think if you're going to throw out numbers based on "averages", it needs to be with comprable homes as well as looking into what he will save in the future after his retrofits go into effect.

I can hardly believe that what Al Gore has done to promote the environment since leaving politics is primarily to make money. He has proven to have at least taken the steps to install solar panels in his Mansion — ** his next step he needs to be completely self-sufficient in producing energy like a wind generators or something. First of all Earth Day has been around for quite some time, and Al had nothing to do with that. I believe you are misinformed. I am an architect and build healthy affordable housing. Al Gore is a product of a huge salary…not unlike yourself. It is unnatural to ask him to live in a 1200SF home like the rest of us. He has taken steps to make his house more green and the higher payments are due to an up front cost of "green" products. They will pay off as time goes by. The problem is in the industry of green products. It is nearly impossible at this point to make affordable housing green because of the high up front cost of such things as solar panels. There are no government subsidies available to help at this point…which is very disappointing. It takes the wealthier portion of our countries population to set a trend that will trickle down throughout the rest of society. He is doing a far better job at protecting our environment than many, including you. So until you are doing everything in your power to protect our communities you should not speak. We must work within our local communities to make them stronger. Support small business, eat locally grown and produced food, buy clothes made by locally…support your neighbors. Get to know them. If you are a product of huge dollars like Gore, try to be a good influence.

first of all, comparing years versus months is deceiving. His house could have powered a little over 11 houses in the same time frame. I'm sure his house is over 11 times as big as the average american home also. So, it's probably not surprising. What is surprising is the obvious pointing of a finger to discount the message he is trying to send. He's doing a lot more good than "evil".
