17 teen girls from Gloucester, Massachusetts' high school are pregnant, according to Time magazine.
For reals.
AND, none of the sperminted teens are older than 16!!!!!!!
That's not the kicker.
Concerned school officials trying to figure out why sooooo many girls became preggers discovered that nearly half the expecting students confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together.

Time goes on to say that the girls who made the pregnancy pact reacted to the news that they were expecting with high fives and plans for baby showers.

The principal of the high school reports, "We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy."
Why would the teens go out of their way to get pregnant?
The preggers 17 declined to be interviewed, but a recent graduate of Gloucester High, who gave birth to a babe her freshman year tells the mag, "They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally. I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m."
And, it's asserted that the high school has done perhaps too good a job of embracing young mothers.
Sex-ed classes end freshman year at Gloucester, where teen parents are encouraged to take their children to a free on-site day-care center.
The Gloucester school committee reportedly plans to vote later this summer on whether to provide contraceptives. The town is called very Catholic, so who knows how that vote will go down.
But some say that won't do much to solve the issue of teens wanting to get pregnant.
A classmate of the girls in the pregnancy pact said, "No one's offered them a better option."
So sad that the teens there feel so hopeless.

theres tons of pregnant girls at my high school back home. i know someone who works there, there were 11 pregnant freshman, and loads of upper classmen too. most of them raise their babies.
those girls shouldn't get a daycare though, it encourages reckless behaviour. teens have sex, but they should use birth control.

I agree that this was a really irresponsible act for these girls but Perez acting as if Jaime Lynn and the movie Juno have anything to do with it is also irresponsible. Interesting you bring up the friends before education thing.
Parents need to take away the text messaging and the computers and start paying more one on one attention to their kids. I have a 16 year old daughter and her life has started to revolve around her friends, we cant have a 5 second conversation without a few texts coming in. Their priorities are screwed up, all they care about is who is doing what and going where with who. I just disable the texting on my daughters phone, and limited her minutes…yes she's 16 and has parental controls on her phone. I had no other choice. I need to bring her back to the real world where her education is priority because it will dictate her life, not her friends.
I am sooo tired of people bashing teen parents. Age means NOTHING. I know so many fantastic teen parents and a lot of shitty 40 yr old parents. Age dosent make a person a good or bad parent. I am not condoning what these girls did. I think its pretty stupid to do it on purpose unless youre in a commited realtionship (at any age).
I was a single parent in the 1980's and while my kids weren't discriminated against, I was. I flat told my kids that pregnancy and kids were alot of work. And that kids need 2 parents.
They are both single, in their 20's and no kids. I think people from my generation are too scared that they'll never get grandkids, so they won't be honest with their kids.

Re: Poor – i completely agree with making in necessary to work to receive welfare, however, as a single working mother, the system itself is completely fucked. i'm working a decent job, nearly full time hours, and supporting my child completely on my own with minimal government assistance, however, every time i get a raise or pick up extra hours i get a cut in any benefits we have. for the logical person, working is the forward motion we need, however, the system makes it so that the less you work the more you get, so people like me, who WANT to work, and simply can't as much as we would like to earn what we need to survive because we can't afford things like fulltime daycare, or have to scrimp on things like food in order to pay the rent.
I wish people would stop blaming the movie Juno for this, she GAVE UP THE BABY at the end of that movie! She didn't keep it and expect it to love her unconditionally. I think this is just more evidence of the failed "abstinence only" educational programs.
I'm from Gloucester too. There are no carnies and toothless mothers (Well maybe a few toothless mothers)! Apparently these 17 girls got this idea in their head and found some stupid boys to follow through with their plans. Parents to blame? YES! School? Maybe… But I dont think Gloucester is the first high school in this country to have this problem, we are just the first to have 17 girls to PLAN it all out together!
But Gloucester itself is beautiful! There are gorgeous beaches, the best seafood you will ever get and its a clean city. It has its bad parts just like any other town too!! It is a very Catholic town, mostly everyone is Italian! There is St Peters Fiesta this weekend for example, google it! And there are actually a few celebrities that have summer homes on the shores here too, so it cant be that bad!

ATTENTION PARENTS! Parenting requires much more than providing a shelter, food, clothes and transportation. The thing that makes it worse is the fact that Gloucester is not a big city- it's a small fishing town (where the movie "The Perfect Storm" was set). 17 out of only a few hundred students in the high school.
Gloucester's got blue-collar roots to the core, and the fishing industry there is suffering greatly. Maybe that has something to do with the student's lack of future planning, although you'd think they'd want to go off to college. Boston is only a few miles away!

WOW! That is so sad. As a 26 year old mommy to 3 who is happily married with a college education..Being a mommy is NOT easy. It is hard, scary, overwhelming, expensive (It's has positives too but that's not the point) We need to go back to the days of chastity belts! BUT I do not blame Juno or Jamie Lynn. Juno is not the 1st movie that touches teen pregnancy and JLS is not the 1st teen to get pregnant. I blame poor school systems and bad parenting. If you know what your kids are doing and where they are then there are ways around this! Baby born in Cal Poly dorm bathroom

A Cal Poly student gave birth to a baby girl in a campus residence hall restroom late Sunday afternoon.
The incident happened at Fremont Hall at around 4:30 p.m. A dorm resident outside the building on Sunday said the student gave birth in a restroom on the third floor. The report was confirmed by a university spokesperson.
University officials did not confirm whether the student lived in Fremont Hall, a co-ed dorm.
The woman, 18, and the baby were taken to a local hospital shortly before 5 p.m. via ambulance, according to dispatch reports.
Student resident advisors inside the dorm declined to comment on the incident.

Newsflash people: the pill isn't 100% effective and teenagers generally don't make the best decisions. I got pregnant while on the pill and I was 17 at the time. I am one of the few who grew up at that point and took responsibility for m child. I got married at 18, another bad decision, but at least my 2 children have the same father. I finished highschool, got a degree, got a divorce, now own a successful resteraunt and have 2 amazing kids. It's hard work, every minute of every day is hard work, but these are the consequences of my actions. No one made the choices for me, my parents loved me, and they were strict, but life happens. I never went on welfare, my parents paid for nothing, I worked and continue to work hard. The point is don't generalize people. And read the article before you start making stupid posts, and take the humour that Perez has offered, not everything is literal.

Usually when I see any Hollywood actress who is "knocked up" (Well, except for Angelina J.) outside of marriage, I don't read it. As a substitute teacher, I have had my share of pregnant girls in one school year this year. At one school, I had 10 in one day!!! And they were freshmen and sophomores!!!!

I had an abortion at 20; as heartwrenching as it was I was in college and the guy was a moron who would never be in the picture. And I didn't have parents who would help me. I was basically stuck but was able to earn 2 degrees and have been happily married for 12 years and have a child who has my love and attention. At 31 I wasn't even prepared for the rigors of being a GOOD mom- the operative word is good—- Any childbirth aged female can have a child, but that doesn't mean you will be a decent mother. I feel so sorry for the babies coming into the lives of these teenagers.

I have lived in Gloucester my whole life and attended GHS (graduated in 2001) this is not any new news and I don't think Gloucester is the only community facing this issue. When I attended there were 8 girls that became mothers– no pregnancy pact just stupidity! We need to wake up this is no longer a problem this is an epidemic!

i get so annoyed when i hear people blaming the media for things like this or for violence or anything else. if media were solely to blame, every person would be influenced by it. there may be 17 pregnant girls at this school, but there are many more who are not, and i'm sure more than the 17 that are pregnant saw juno. home life and other physical surroundings affect children much more than a movie or a game or a song, in my opinion, and if they were raised with proper morals or any idea of what success is, they wouldn't be influenced by a movie and excited to get pregnant at their ages. and if they are looking for "unconditional love," they obviously aren't getting it at home for one reason or another.

You can't blame the movie for this tomfoolery. I grew up in private schools in Dallas in the late 90s, and we had about 3 girls get pregnant and transfer to public school each semester. There was no Juno or Jamie Lynn when that happened. Sex happens, pregnancy happens, kids just need to be better educated. Stop teaching abstinence and teach our youth about SEX: if you're gonna do it, be smart physically. Protect yourself and your partner. And the families should teach them the emotional side of it.

For some teenagers, having a baby is less scary than having to go to college or get a career after high school — especially if there's welfare available to single mothers. I think universities and career counsellors have to get into that high school and show these girls there are lots of exciting options available to them that don't involve slammin the homeless dude.
this world is so quick to judge..yeah there are a lot of bad parents out there and not all of them are teens..So what if they have kids its their choice and they will learn once the kid comes but I bet there not going to leave their kid in some stair well at a mall, or murder their child and try to say it was kidnapped..How old were those parents?? 30 almost? and if u people really think movies and celebrities have to do with this "problem" then i laugh at you for even thinking that! OH thats right…I forgot that now a days if a 15 year old gets pregnant its probably from the latest movie they saw, i mean since 15 year old are so oblivious and dont know what they are doing!!

I just want to set one thing straight to you hollywood people! This is NOT a new trend and NOT even a trend @ all, this has been going on for years and you are just noticing it because ONE famous young girl get's pregnant! I myself got pregnant @ 15 and had my son @ 16 and I went through alot of hardships to give him a good life. I fought long and hard and graduated highschool and now I am attending college and making something of myself! I didnt get pregnant cause it was a trend things happen and I took responsability for my actions and so is Jamie so just leave this alone. Those girls from that school and everywhere else in america are pregnant because they made that decision no one else or for no other reason! OPEN YOUR EYES AMERICA ITS' HAPPENING AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS! ITS NOT HER FAULT OR A MOVIES FAULT ITS SOCIETY IN ITSELF!

Teen Pregnancy is not a new thing in this country, Juno shows that there is an alternative to abortion, and as far a Jamie Lynn, come on she's a Spears isn't she? That being said I would put the blame on the parents in this case. Where are they to encourage their daughters to go to college and make something of themselves? A teen looking to get pregnant is a teen looking for love. Obviously they felt neglected at home so they turned to each other. Having a baby would make them feel complete, like they were in control of their family for once. Also where is the school in this situation? At my high school girls were required to carry a baby doll that would cry periodically through the day and at all hours of the night, and you never knew what it wanted. That was enough to get myself on BC right away.
