Blame Jamie Lynn! And Juno!

Filed under: Baby Blabber > Wacky, Tacky & True

jamielynnspears2.jpg

17 teen girls from Gloucester, Massachusetts' high school are pregnant, according to Time magazine.

For reals.

AND, none of the sperminted teens are older than 16!!!!!!!

That's not the kicker.

Concerned school officials trying to figure out why sooooo many girls became preggers discovered that nearly half the expecting students confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together.

WTF????

WHY?????????

Dumb! DUmb! Dumb!

Time goes on to say that the girls who made the pregnancy pact reacted to the news that they were expecting with high fives and plans for baby showers.

Wait.

There's more craziness.

The principal of the high school reports, "We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy."

Why would the teens go out of their way to get pregnant?

The preggers 17 declined to be interviewed, but a recent graduate of Gloucester High, who gave birth to a babe her freshman year tells the mag, "They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally. I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m."

And, it's asserted that the high school has done perhaps too good a job of embracing young mothers.

Sex-ed classes end freshman year at Gloucester, where teen parents are encouraged to take their children to a free on-site day-care center.

The Gloucester school committee reportedly plans to vote later this summer on whether to provide contraceptives. The town is called very Catholic, so who knows how that vote will go down.

But some say that won't do much to solve the issue of teens wanting to get pregnant.

A classmate of the girls in the pregnancy pact said, "No one's offered them a better option."

So sad that the teens there feel so hopeless.

What do you think needs to be done?

Someone needs to do an anti-Juno flick…fast!

Teen pregnancy is not a good 'trend'.

It's not to be taken lightly!

P.S. Note to all the boys: She may tell you she's on the pill, but use a condom AND pull out as well!

Okay, I go to Gloucester High School, and personally, I think it's fucking ridiculous. 17 pregnant girls? What the fuck, like honestly. Oh, and there might be 18 by the way. But wow. And Fiesta's coming up soon, too, so I can guarantee you that there's gonna be more girls here with their ego preggo. But AHAHAHA WOW you know it must be pretty big when YOU blog about cause I mean, you're pretty huge in the internet world.

what do you expect? you can say its not glamourised and that juno didnt want to be pregnant - but at the end of the day it brought her family together, she got cracked onto by some muso, no one was upset with her for being pregnant and she got the guy! its ridiculously glamourised! and she was made to look like a real rebel! back to the days of shame and getting shipped off the the convent says i ;)

If you think that a movie, A FUCKING MOVIE, is to blame for the increase of pregnant teens in this country, then you're a misinformed ignorant dumbass! If you had watched the movie, you would know that she did not get pregnant on purpose, she was not happy about it, and she gave the baby up for adoption. People like you make me sad, sigh, so clueless.

are you serious? just because 17 out of the 500+ girls that go to gloucester high made bad decisions, does not mean we are all white trash. (yes, i am from gloucester & just graduated. ) i love how most of the people on here are judging my entire high school because of 17 girls. like some people have said, this isn't uncommon. i'm sure there are other high schools that have more than 17 girls pregnant, it just so happens that my school made it on the news. & just because i am defending my school does not mean i agree with the decisions those girls have made. honestly, i don't even know half of them. i really hope they realize what they have gotten themselves into.

  6. Britn says – reply to this

    406

this is disturbing, they don't understand what they are getting themselves into. A child is not a dog or a bird, a child is the rest of your life, what are they thinking? They must think that when the pressure is too much that they have their parents to pass their child onto… yea, babies are cute and tiny but they get older, they get fussy, they get dirty, they make messes… AFTER YOU HAVE A CHILD YOU CAN'T JUST DECIDE YOU DON'T WANT THE RESPONSIBILITY!! Having a child because you want someone to love you unconditionally?!!? GET A FUCKING DOG! What they need is a better sexual education program… what ever happened to assigning students with those robot babies for 7 days?!? This world is fucked up BAD and every school needs to spend money on this type of program to educate these little girls!! INSTEAD OF SCHOOLS SPENDING MONEY ON THE FOOTBALL TEAM OR OTHER WORTHLESS SHIT DO THIS! its an epidemic

    Re: Jill

Actually thats not always true I have two babies and my youngest is 3 months and I'm still wearing my size 5 jeans, no stretch marks, my breast do not sag, the only 2 problems I have are cellulite on my bum but who doesn't, and the second is that i have a c-section scar cause my son was breach. Some people get all nasty and flabby, but if you take care of yourself while you're pregnant you WILL get your body back almost immediately after giving birth.

Whats going to happen when they realize that raising a child is hard work?
What's going to happen when they realize that their bundle of "unconditional love" is violently vomiting everywhere or has smelly diarrhea because of a stomach bug? Or wont stop crying because of an ear infection in the middle of the night?
What's going to happen when they realize that they can't get together and raise their kids because they all have to work 24/7 to barely support themselves and their kids?
What's going to happen when they want to go out to clubs and have fun but they can't because they have to take care of their kids?
You can't leave a 2 year old at home or take it to the club. Day care is expensive

P.S. "Kids" is a great sex ed movie. Every teen should watch it. it scared the shit out of me and i am 20.

    415

Thank you Preze, these girls are so dumb. I mean yeah i did get pregnant when i was 17 but i didn't do it because i wanted to or made a "pact" (morons) i chose to give my baby life, and then give him to a deserving home of someone who couldn't have kids. So i want to punch the person who decided that they should market teen pregnancy.

  16. Carle says – reply to this

OK, Juno was NOTTTT about a girl who wanted to get pregnant. It was about a girl who ACCIDENTALLY got pregnant and TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR HER ACTIONS. DONT COMPARE THIS JAMIE LYNN GLOUCESTER HIGH BULLSHIT WITH JUNO. I think that movie was very well done and a good look at what can happen in a situation like that.

    419

    it's not because of juno.

fuck, if anything, juno is supposed to show how hard pregnancy is on a teen.

the reason why teens get pregnant (purposely) is because they want someone to love them, and they know babies can do that. they're not dumb, they just think silly things.

my mom was pregnant with me when she was 15 and she told me it was because she wanted someone to love her.

1st of all, STOP blaming the movie Juno. That was a movie, these girls need to fuck knocked out of them as do their worthless "parents". I am sooooooo fucking sick of people blaming movies and celebrities for the problems young people make for themselves. They do have their own brains, obviously not for using. but still there. such bullshit that everyone wants to cop out and blame everything else, instead of saying, The worthless "parents" fucked up raising their kid(s). So sorry, let's learn from their dumb ass mistakes. and make this world better. GOD GROW THE FUCK UP!!! I AM SO TIRED OF ALL THIS WHINING!!! And Perez, honey, stop fueling the bullshit with headliners like these…NOT Juno's or Jamie Lynn's fault. I thought Juno was an awesome movie. I am 32, and I thought it showed a teen who fucks up how to take responsibility and make a mature and rational decision. HELLO!!! Good example..I would think so….UGH!!! People are so stupid and fucking retarded sometimes..

  21. Bella says – reply to this

    421

You cannot blame a movie and a celebrity for teen pregnancies, teens were getting pregnant BEFORE Juno and before Jamie Lynn.

Not all teens get pregnant on purpose so stop saying they only do to get on government money. I am a teen mother myself and i've been labelled a whore, slut, hoe, skank - yet I am not any of those.

You little ignorant people need to look those words up and then re-think who you are calling a slut.

God this article makes me sooo angry. Fu*k you all for being so god damn pathetic.

  22. James says – reply to this

    422

    Well,
all i can say is they are kind of slow on the uptake, and not being mature or realistic about "playing" at being adults. and thats all they are doing is playing ..these girls think it's fun to be a mother Yeah sometimes it is,but most off the time it's back breaking labor and midnight feeding's and no sleep but you still have to do whats expected of you. I was 18 when i had my son and even then it was not an easy thing to do, I got looks of disgust and pity because i was what one would call a teen mother. although technically i was an adult…but it doesnt matter what age you are its hard being a mother. But its even harder to be a young mother because at the age these girls are, they are not mentally mature enough to take care of another human being for the rest of their lives. They will have these babies and think they can still be tennage girls and go out and party, but thats not the case these girls might as well kiss theyre social lifes goodbye..cause that part of childhood is over for them.

  31. zzz says – reply to this

    431

perez, have you even watched juno? the girl in the movie didn't want to be pregnant, nor to see the baby - she gave it away because she wasn't ready for it. if anything, the flick is cautionary, and shows that teenagers are in no position to have and raise children. they're not mature enough and it's more than they can handle. so i don't think anybody got the idea there. i think it's more of a civilizational thing - guys are so sex-crazed now, they're more likely to "hit and run", if you catch my drift. therefore, these girls can't count on love and support from their boyfriends, so they'd rather just have a kid, because it's a sure thing - who else would a baby love if not its very mother? pretty sad.

    433

perez - this concerns me because the whole point of Juno isn't teen mothering, it's teen pregnancy and the selfless - SELFLESS - choice of placing a child FOR ADOPTION. This situation is NOTHING like that, with these apparently parentless and messed up girls trying to find community, love, acceptance, SOMETHING by making this decision. It's terribly sad - 17 families waiting for children are READY and WAITING to raise those kids in 2-parent homes, to help those 16 year olds get back to their LIVES. who will advocate for ADOPTION?

My birth mom was 17… my adoptive parents were 38 when they adopted me. I am blessed indeed - and we have 2 boys who are adopted from foster care and 1 biological daughter, and i'm expecting a boy in september. Adoption has been a blessing in my life!!

    Stephanie
ps - i'm not your typical reader - 37 year old conservative Christian mom… but as long as i have my filters in place, i love what you do - and when you're being a sweetheart, you're as sweet as they come!

First of all, when youre that young you have very litle idea of what it takes to be a mother. Although Im sure that Jamie lynns pregnancy has made them feel that it is glamourous to have a baby, and all the other celebrity interviews which never NEVER have a new celebrity mom, say that its hard to be up in the middle of the night when you are tired and theres a screaming baby. For the 17 girls I feel that their parents are to blame.. where were you when your daughter was having sex with a homeless man?? I dont think that teen age pregnacy is good thing, but I do believe that just becasue they are young Jamie Lynn included doesnt mean that they cant be good mothers.. I just hope for their childs sake they are.

That's what you get from glamorizing celebrity-pregnancies, poor sex-ed and neo-conservative housewife as a female role model. Why the hell this "baby boom" started in the first place?!? Celebrities didn't use to celebrate their pregnancies in the tabloids, it was more like a (temporary or permanent) downfall of their career if they got preggers. Education or career isn't the ideal for a woman anymore, being smart isn't sexy. Two options, ho or a housewife. Or be a ho first and then clean up your act and become a little wifey. And now it's the perfect time to have kids to the overpopulated world we have created. Climate change, food and oil prices running high -all because there's too many of us! There should be a giant condom put on the whole planet for at least 50 years!

It is impossible for people to not put blame on someone one but lets not be nieve….. In this day and age, anyone, no matter your age can be influenced by the media and celebrity craze that is out there. No parent that was rasied in the day of no cell phones and when computers were rare can have a fighting chance against the teen that WANTS to do something. If they have the mind to do it, they will get it done and with the easy access to anything they want they can. I am sure the parents where not the ones making teen preg. sound cool so who made it sound cool? Look around you! When it comes to teens its a hard fine line trying to blame it on someone else but when it comes down to it, even though they are chemically changing they still have a choice to make and they (the teens) made it. So it is unfortunite but going after the parents is not the answer. I know my parents could not have stopped me at 15 from making a choice I thought was cool. Their life is populaity and the lastest fad so choosing what we put out there for changing and easily infulenced minds is important. But I am a fan of the movie Juno and Free Speech so how far do we go? Its a fine line…..

My best friend had a baby at 19, which is a little bit older then the girls in the story. But either way, even with an education, being a mother is the hardest job ever! I wish girls would see this. I saw Juno, and while the girl did the right thing, some girls see this movie and think something else.

    Re: Elle

they should have teen mothers come into girls' home ec classes or child growth and development (thats what i was in) with their babies and have them share their stories. Its so much better then giving the girls the fake babies to take home (THEY STILL DO THAT)!!!

That really was a dumb comment you made, being a young mother is hard but does not mean the child will be f**ked up. I was a excellant young mother my kids did not want for anything. I worked and went to high school and had a little baby. I also graduate with my class in high school. So don't hudge them you don't know what made them make this choice.

This is so sad. I don't even think these girls are so much stupid, as uneducated. It is such a sad thing to think that they feel the only way they can get love they deserve is through getting pregnant at such a young age. In reality, its a selfish thing to do. They dont know it, but these children's lives are going to be forever complicated. I just wish these 16 year old girls parents could give them the support they deserve, so they wouldnt make this "pact." good lord…..

In case no one caught the news this morning, These lovely little role models were plastered all over Good Morning America! They also had a quote from one of their friends stating " They are so happy, it has completely changed their lives. They don't party AS MUCH ANYMORE, and they DON'T DRINK AS MUCH ANYMORE." WTF!!!! These girls should be made an example of not splashed all over the TV making them out to be stars and telling other IDOIT teenagers, "Hey look if your deseprate enough and have no shame you to can have your 15min of fame to. All you have to do is something completely stupid that will ruin your lives along with others." These girls and their families are nothing but trash, and the TV stations are obviously so deseprate for rating they don't care how trashy the story is as long as the ratings come in! GOD BLESS AMERICA we heading face first down the shit hole! 6 year old kids from other counries can already speak 3 differnet languages, thats news worthy, not 17 drunken/drugged up sluts making a pact to get pregnant and go on welfare so I can pay for them with my hard earned money!

yes that is dumb to plan getting pregnant at such a young age…but things do happen, they should never take away help for younger single mothers, that isnt right. I was a young teen single mother and had no help except from my parents ….dont make the situation worse and have these single mothers homeless and have a support system.

This is crazy, I can understand the need and want to feel like someone loves but I would like to know how they are going to feel if and when these kids reject them for not giving them the life that every kid wants. The best clothes and lifestyle. It will only make things worse when they grow-up and realize that their friends leed better lives than they do. We all know what its like to be a kid and not appreciate all your parents do, or even realize how much they do for us. Were to busy worrying about what other kids are wearing or what kind of cars there parents are driving. What kind of life can these girls who aren't even 17 give to these babies. At least in the case of Jamie Lynn Spears she has money and time. But these girls aren't even finished school.

So who cares if people want to have children at a young age then let them, dont make them feel bad for there choices. I love my little girl more than anything in this world and i would not give her up for anything.

  86. Alli says – reply to this

    486

Perez, you are wrong about pulling out and using a condom. DO NOT PULL OUT EVER. It doesnt work alone as birth control, and PULLING OUT WITH A CONDOM ON INCREASES THE CHANCES OF PREGNANCY because sperm could leak out. While you are commenting on sex ed, you are just showing your ignorance. Thousands of young people read your website every day and you are spreading misinformation to all of those people. Shame on you.

PS. Juno didnt promote teen pregancy. She wasnt trying to get knocked up, and she did the responsible thing and gave it up for adoption.

    Re: Blunt

thats actually not true at all. i'm from sugar land, tx, and when i graduated in 2004 over 60 girls in my class had already had kids.

  88. 488

What does Juno have to do with this?? Juno didn't show teen pregnancy as a positive thing. It didn't show a girl having a baby so she'd have someone to love. It didn't show a girl with unrealistic ideas of what having a baby is like. It showed a girl making the very painful decision to place her child for adoption after realizing that she was too young to be a mother. If anything, it was good for teens to see.

All you people out there blaming Jamie-Lynn Spears and the "Juno" movie for promoting teen pregnancy, you haven't got a clue!! And yes, Perez, I mean you too. These girls were corrupted long before the younger Spears got pregnant and Juno came out. If you read the article, it says these girls made this pact because they wanted someone to love them unconditionally. How sad is that? They don't feel loved by their parents and don't feel there is anything worthwehile about their lives, so by getting pregnant they will be loved unconditionally and give meaning to their lives. How very sad indeed. Someone needs to get some top-notch psychiatrists to that town ASAP!

I don't think that half the people on here know what they are talking about when they comment about Gloucester. I was born and raised in Gloucester and I graduated from the high school last year. I think that it is ridiculous that people are talking about how trashy it is here. If it is so trashy then why do celebrities have vacation homes here. There is almost no chance for you to find a house for under 500,000. There is only one place that is trashy and that is downtown which is only a small portion of the city. Once you get away from that this city is gorgeous. Why would so many tourists come to this city to see it if it is so trashy. We have a gigantic amount of tourists that travel here to see all that it has to offer and when I go away from Gloucester I hear from people who have vacationed here and cannot say enough good things about it.

    497

While there clearly is a problem with the high amount of pregnancies at the high school compared to years previous, it does not compare to some of my friends' high schools out of state. They would have at least 5 pregnant girls in each of there classes and there is nothing like that at Gloucester High School. I know that many of these girls came from homes where there parents didn't care about them and I don't think that Gloucester should be slammed like it has been in the media.
And as to the daycare I don't think that it encouraged girls to have children but it only helped them to complete high school and be successful because without it they would have never had that oppurtunity. I personally know one girl who was able to get into a great college and be successful because the daycare let her concentrate on her studies while at school.
