17 teen girls from Gloucester, Massachusetts' high school are pregnant, according to Time magazine.
For reals.
AND, none of the sperminted teens are older than 16!!!!!!!
That's not the kicker.
Concerned school officials trying to figure out why sooooo many girls became preggers discovered that nearly half the expecting students confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together.

Time goes on to say that the girls who made the pregnancy pact reacted to the news that they were expecting with high fives and plans for baby showers.

The principal of the high school reports, "We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy."
Why would the teens go out of their way to get pregnant?
The preggers 17 declined to be interviewed, but a recent graduate of Gloucester High, who gave birth to a babe her freshman year tells the mag, "They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally. I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m."
And, it's asserted that the high school has done perhaps too good a job of embracing young mothers.
Sex-ed classes end freshman year at Gloucester, where teen parents are encouraged to take their children to a free on-site day-care center.
The Gloucester school committee reportedly plans to vote later this summer on whether to provide contraceptives. The town is called very Catholic, so who knows how that vote will go down.
But some say that won't do much to solve the issue of teens wanting to get pregnant.
A classmate of the girls in the pregnancy pact said, "No one's offered them a better option."
So sad that the teens there feel so hopeless.

I've always had hope for our generation, realizing that Juno is just a movie and that Jamie Lynn Spears signed up to be a performer, not a role model. Yes, riiiighhtt… and we should also totally discredit the effect that pop-culture and other sociological trends have on our culture and society as a whole. Clearly, we all do similar things for no other reason but than we all really do like all the same things….. somehow, I doubt that there was ever a time when everyone, deep within themselves, desired a pet rock… it was a sociological trend fueled by "well, my friend has one and they like it."

I was born and raised in Gloucester, Ma. It's not a place where carnies live off season thank you very much. Now I am 26 and live in California and This digusts me so much. Whats crazy is that I have been reading on their paper for the last month the NURSES quit because the school will not allow proper classes. Now when I was there, there was only 7 pregnancies my 4 whole years there!
This just gives us another bad name, good job ladies good job.

i grew up in a catholic family, and if i had "gotten in the family way" my dad would have beat the shit out of the father, and woe betide me when my mother found out.
considering that the school board STILL have to decide whether to make birth control available DESPITE what has already happened in the school, it is pretty obvious that they're not exactly riding the liberal train. (fyi–in catholicism, birth control is sinful. then again….so is sex before marriage. doesnt seem to be stopping them.)

seriously… lets get a few things straight… Parents can only blame themselves- This is their fault for not instilling morals in their children. also, Gloucester has a population of: 30,273- So its, not a 'small fishing town' it is a small fishing city, there is a big difference. People come to visit this city every summer because it is beautiful and the people are great. Also, before you say something like '17 out of only a few hundred students in the high school' you should get your facts straight, there are anywhere between 1,200-1,500 students at this school- So really its only a small fraction of the students that are pregnant.
So dont throw insults at everyone that grew up in this town, because not everyone is like this. from what I've heard not all the girls were in the pact, its just a few of them- which doesnt make it better. But for some of them, accidents happen.

I don't really enjoy how some people are bashing republicans. I've read some remarks that republicans believe in abstinence only programs. I live in Virginia and for a while we've had Democratic Governors who have pushed abstinence only programs in school. I remember when I was in school we talked about birth control, condoms, abortions…etc….and now in recent years the Government has been pushing abstinence only programs.
It's not just republicans it's also democrats. And the fucking government has stopped funding health centers (like planned parenthood) and or has cut down on the money they give to centers who help give out cheap birth control. I was able to get birth control for 12 dollars a pack (as a student discount since i was in college at the time) and about six months later the prices went up to 25 dollars a pack because the government stopped giving them subsidies. It's getting incredibly hard to afford birth control because the government has stopped helping centers.

I do not get why so many people are posting that Gloucester girls are "poor white trash, sluts, and whores". Im a 35 your aold woman and grew up in Gloucester all my life. This community is full of hard-working, intelligent and successful people. Maybe the people who call the girls white trash have something personal against them. I work at a Family Planning Clinic in Beverly and we see many young teens coming in for pregnancy tests from all over the north shore. We have several clinics throughout the North Shore and the pregnancy rate in the other cities are much higher than Gloucester. Teen pregnancy is an epidemic everywhere, not just Gloucester. Lets look at the BIG PICTURE and educate these teens. And yes I think birth control should be available to teens at their schools too! Teens are having sex behind their parents backs every day! Instead of trying to cover it up and live in denial, we need to give these young girls an option to protect themselves. If we cant stop them from having sex, at least educate them to make the right decisions and practice SAFE SEX!

I have a one year old son and Im 18. Me and my sons father are married and were together for 5 years before having him. Now I know Im a teen mother but I live on my own and make my own money so unlike other teen moms Im doing what I need to. Its not easy by any means to go to college with a baby, much less high school. Making a pact to get pregnant is just stupid unless your about 30 and really feel ready for a baby. Infants dont give love, they take. They take so much paicients and work. They love when they get older but screaming at 4 am when you just finished your psyc. paper thats due in 3 hours and you want to sleep will drive you MAD! I love my son but some days I dont know how Im gonna make it through. If I had it to do over I would have waited, and Im sure there are plenty of moms out there, young and old, that will say the same thing. I agree. The schools need more sex education and a lot more early intervention. The kids are obviously not getting it from home. They obviously do not know anything about the risk of STD's and HIV either. Most teens are too afraid to approach their parents to talk about sex and birth control. I think there should be a program where these teens wanting to get pregnant should "borrow a baby" for 24 hours and see hands on what its like to raise an infant. Better yet, give them a colicy infant! That should be birth control enough!!! We need more "scared straight" programs! I just don't understand this generation. ok well i live in Gloucester i am friends with some of theses girls. yea people fucking make mistakes but i mean if there happy then let them be. like i kn half this pact shit is a rumor. people should just like stay out of this its making it harder for all these young mothers. yea its sad and crazy but shit happens for reasons its not that big of a deal.
