Honestly, I think they're both in the wrong. I never knew that Ice T was a rapper, nor have I even heard any of his music so I can't judge him there, that says enough already. Soulja Boy knows how to write a catchy song and rap it well, even though some people don't prefer that kind of music. You may say he killed Hip-Hop, and you may say he's one of the best. But it's all a matter of opinion. Soulja Boy does have a point when he says if Ice T really thinks Hip-Hop is dead, he should do something about it. Don't diss your competition like that, either, unless you can really back it up. However, I do think the Hip-Hop industry has changed over the years into something new, but things change, just like Soulja Boy said. And instead of calling him an "old ass n*****," he should have used a lot less profanity. If you want people to take you seriously, act serious. Acting mature in a situation gains you respect, poor choice of wording can only get you in trouble. I'm not picking a side, they are both wrong. And two wrongs sure as hell don't make a right.

As an educator, I am saddened and discouraged by this young man's lack of any coherant ability to communicate. I hope his mother, preacher, or home school (hey, I can only hope) teacher has a long drawn out discussion with him about the his disgusting use of the word 'nigga'. Can you even imagine how his slave ansestors would feel about his prolific use of that word? When I think of all the people who died so he could be free to make his music and get an education, it makes me ill. I edit papers for grammar errors until it feels like my head is going to split open. Yet, my students roll their eyes and refuse to see the point. They rarely value their own educations. Teaching these young men feels like herding cats. So, why do I bother? I wake up each day hoping with extreme audacity that perhaps today will be the day that I reach into the brain of even just one of these young men and make a difference. Believe me, it is not that these young men are unintelligent, because they are very very smart. They have to be in order to survive their own lives. It is just that no one has ever taught them to value an education. At least this Souljaboy is not selling drugs or women. He is making an honest living. He owes it to his siblings and his mother to see that they do not end up back in the ghetto. The only way that he can promise them that will never happen is by turning off the computor and opening up a book. With luck, it will be an elemantary school grammar book.

this just goes to show how it really is all about making money in the hip hop industry anymore. soulja boy hardly even attempts to defend the quality of his music, rather brings up the fact that he has made money off of it and is now able to provide for his family because of it and that ice t should congratulate him on that account. that's still no validation of your music, man. how many people bought britney spears' albums? there will always be young and tasteless consumers out there to buy this kind of commercialized garbage. granted, hip hop's history and many of the OGs all started in struggle and the hustle for money. that has always been one of hip hop's major themes, but the difference was that these guys were living in a time and environment in which hip hop wasn't mainstream yet. they could only make it based on the quality of their music. these men were the ones who paved the way for hip hop to become a mainstream genre of music in the U.S. after some time, people just couldn't deny their talent, their message, their music. just thinking about the raw talent and eloquence of some of the OGs from back in the day makes me sad when looking at the state of hip hop today.
