United Front

Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama > Hillary Clinton

wenn1743522.jpg

In an effort to unite the Democratic Party, Barack Obama's campaign announced today that he will be campaigning with Hillary Clinton next week.

Yay!!!!!

The two senators will campaign together starting next Friday, June 27th.

The pair will also meet in Washington with some of Clinton's top contributors in an effort to try and calm donors who are still bothered by Obama's presidential campaign.

Few details are being released at the moment, though.

The news did come one day after Obama announced that he would reverse an earlier position and reject almost $85 million in public financing for the general election.

The announcement was received with a lot of criticism.

So, to draw the attention elsewhere, he made the announcement a week early about campaigning with Hillary.

Do U think Obama should have Hillary run as Vice President?

Do you seriously think that McCain will help anyone aside from small business? All of the tax cuts he has suggested only give significant help to large corporations? Why in the world does he think that Exxon Mobile needs to make more money? Perhaps his wife has masses of Exxon shares and that's why he won't release her tax records!

Results? McCain, a man who was incarcerated in the Hanoi Hilton for years, seeks results along the lines of keeping the troups in Iraq for as long as possible. I don't know about you, but I have friends who are going over there and others who have already come back irrevocably broken. When you vote for McCain, I suggest that you apologize to every family that has been shattered by the loss of a loved one in Iraq or by having a loved one maimed in combat.

John McCain's education was paid for by american tax payers and now he is refusing to grant those same rights to other soliders. Because that's what Sadaam Hussein did to his own people. And guess what? There were attacks before 9/11. And what were they against? The World Trade Center! And what else? U.S. embassies and war ships! Nothing an incoming U.S. President should pay any sort of attention to, right?

Bill Clinton even went so far as to warn George W. Bush of Al Kaida. However, G.W. was too busy helping his gold old friend at Enron to think it of any importance.

    Re: chang

You should check your facts. The war in Iraq has served only tointensify loathing of the United States in the region. Do you think staying will make that better? No! It didn't work in Vietnam and isn't working here. The borders are porous. Al Kaida leaders still send video taped messages that create masses of new recreuits.

The most effective solution would be to encourage nation states in the region to create their own solution. Within Iraq, the groups fighting have fought each other for centuries. Do you think a war can change the contents of their hearts?

How many troops do you think that the U.S. has? The Defense department has already noted that troop levels cannot be maintained at their current level for the next five years. The only way to stay "as long as it takes" would be to initiate a draft. Do you support this? I don't. For a war that may never end without the wholesale partioning of Iraq, which the rest of the Middle East will never agree to, such slaughter seems utterly pointless. More so, what if the United States itself is attacked? Where will the needed, trained troops come from if the body of our troops is overseas?

    Re: chang

I'm responding to your previous comment.

Genocide. Genocide is a wholesale slaughter of a specific cultural group or race. I thought that placing it within the context of an arena of which you espouse such an extensive amount of knowledge might help. Unless practiced with the specificity of Hilter or Milosovich (Bosnia), war isn't genocide, it's carnage, chaos and slaughter.

You also implied that 9/11 was the first terrorist bombing on U.S. soil and that the war in Iraq was stopping current and future bombings. Yet, if that were true, then there wouldn't have been any other bombings by Al Kaida, as there were against the World Trade Center, U.S. embassies and U.S. battleships in the Gulf all of which were PRIOR to 9/11.

While I am glad that Hillary Clinton is going to be campaigning for Obama, I don't think that she should be his VP. Primarily because I think Obama represents the future and Clinton represents the past. I also don't think Senator Clinton could ever take a back seat spot on the ticket. And, keeping Bill Clinton in line would be difficult at best. I do respect Hillary Clinton and thought she campaigned her heart out but I think Obama needs to choose someone that shares his vision for the future. It doesn't mean Clinton is unworthy at all…she could go on to become a very powerful leader in her own right. And, she's out there campaigning because she really doesn't have a choice if she wants a continued future in politics. She didn't leave this race on a high note. Her highest advisers had to all but shut her down and that has never happened in history but I will give her the benefit of the doubt and see where this goes in the coming weeks.

    Re: Seass
You should check your facts, the situation in Iraq is getting better, not worse. Al-Qaeda is on the run in that country and the lives of Iraqis are improving each and every day. The fact that you dwell on the negative is not surprising since you don't check the facts on any improvements that are occuring in Iraq since the surge of troops.
Blaming US presence in Iraq on Islamic terrorism is another sign that you know nothing of the enemy we face. There have been nearly 12,000 Islamic terrorist attacks worldwide since 9/11, many of which has nothing at all to do with US presence in Iraq.
Draft? Please, get with the program.

Re: Jonny – Oh, I well know black sold blacks into slavery. But it was the British, French, Spanish and Portuguese who did the main transactions and transported them across the Atlantic in the most unbeleiveably cruel and inhumame ways. The British were the only ones who fineally put an end to it by having the slave trade outlawed by King George. The British after that very aggressively patroled the Atlantic looking to capture and rescue possible slave ships. After the British outlawed it, that stopped almost all trans Atlantic shiping of Negros, but unfortunately, slavery itself was not declared illegal until much later in the states.

I said that no other terrorist attack has happened since 9/11.
Secondly, what do you think the terrorist are doing now in Iraq?
terrorists are trying to become the ruling force and if the US pulls out, you will see genocide of those that do not want to be ruled by Islamic extremists. I see this as being the vast majority of Iraqi civilians….is that a large enough group for you to consider it as genocide?

Obama did NOT make a bad decision and was trying to hide it with Hillary, he made a great choice in not choosing public finance because he can out raise McCain and outspend him too! I believe what obama should do is what he is doing right know. campaign with her, get her help with her supporters that won't back him and get to back him, and just simply help put a democrat in office. but i knows its the hardest decision. so i give it a 50/50.
