What does GOD have to do with instilling morals? If that was the case, then why all the slackness in Jamaican Dancehall music? Why all the sex promiscuity in the culture? Everyone always wants to talk about Homosexuality but ignore all the other "sins" going on daily. Stop being a hypocrite as if Jamaica is sooooooo God fearing yada yada. Murder is a sin! Sex before marriage is sin! Hatred is a sin!
Unfortunately Jamaica is still stuck in cavemen times….alot has changed since! We don't have to accept everything in life but respecting someone right to live is something you can not ignore!
Besides this has nothing to do with Barrack Obama and even he supports gay rights. We as blacks have come along way and have seen the worst that man can do. Why continue the hate?
One more thing…..Take away the gays, then you take away, culture, music, arts, fashion since a majority of those are qualities we bring to the table!
I went to Jamaica for a week in early 2002. I doubt I'll ever go again. The men were DISGUSTING and disrespectful towards women. We were groped, touched, harassed, everywhere we went. When one of the girls had enough and said, "GET THE FUCK OFF OF ME" to one of the offenders, he responded, "That's why they flew planes into your buildings" (obviously alluding to 9/11 which had only happened months earlier). The country is gross and third-world. There's garbage everywhere and random wild animals eating trash by the side of the road. Even the airport bathroom was like from the third-world…none of the toilets worked, and were stuffed with so much urine and feces and toilet paper, you wouldn't use them if you wanted to, the smell was unbearable, and the doors didn't even close. Great country they got there. Certainly those "values" are really working. FUCK THEM.

Each country and person has the right to their own opinions, but that does not mean you can impose them on others. If murder and assault are crimes, then they should be enforced consistently. However, it is also the right of others to disagree with that opinion and act as they see fit… whether it be to boycott, publicize or ignore. I see many feel that no one should interfere with Jamaica's politics, but by that standard Jamaicans should respect the laws of other countries when they move or visit. I'm Canadian and have been attacked, shot at, spat on and called every name in the book… often by West Indian people. As the laws here support the GLBTQ community, those visiting/ immigrating here should respect our laws and beliefs. This is why people are involving themelves with other countries… it is not contained within Jamaica, it has spread around the world.
Don't condemn all Jamaicans though… last time I was attacked, it was by a group of 5 and I was alone at the time. 2 people came to help me without my asking… both Jamaican.
Most people in Jamaica are such devout christians it would put most Americans to shame. They don't just claim to be religious and then do whatever they want, they actually practice what they preach. So it's not their fault the antiquated ideas of their churches have failed to change with the times to be more accepting of gays. Instead of picking on an entire nation, address the churches that teach you to love your fellow man… unless he is gay.

Why is it so wrong to tell people not to go there? That is just his opinion… many here seem to be fighting for the rights of Jamaica to maintain laws against homosexuality, and to deal with the issue as tey see fit. These individuals have made it clear that they don't want interference from others. So why then is it wrong to suggest not visiting? That is a way of not interfering with the rights of Jamaicans, while also allowing others to uphold their own values as they see fit. Not all Jamaicans are homophobic, but it is the right of others to not support an economy that does not support thweir own morals.
It's not just Jamaica though… I'm gay, and I'm much more likely to visit Jmaica than anywhere in the Middle East! At least in Jamaica gays aren't executed by the state!!!!!

I only know one personally actually lol But I really believe that what a person does with their own life is completely up to them. Okay so I'm pretty much neutral to this situation. I am Jamaican but i was raised in the U.S. so of course I think what is going on in Jamaica (which i frequent VERY often) is wrong but more so for the fact that they are killing these people. Jamaica doesn't like gay people, big deal. Parts of the U.S. don't like gay people. If you are one of those people who have to talk about sex all the time or show their sexuality in order to FEEL or be gay, then don't go to Jamaica. I don't want you there (or anywhere) and they don't want you there either. If you are just gay and there are other aspect to your personality, go for vacation. Jamaica is beautiful place. The human rights violated there are appalling; people should not be discriminated on the basis of their sexuality. I will not be going to Jamaica anyways it’s too violent and apparently far behind on being a safe place for anyone regardless of their sexuality. The numbered of murder people trying to help others is also disturbing. Heterosexuals are also susceptible to HIV and AIDS, that why the epidemic is so spread out, there is fear of even opening the issues to dialogue. Also I LOVE PEREZ HITLTON!!!!!!

First of all, to all of those who disagree with Perez's statement about not going to Jamaica… this is HIS blog and so he can say whatever he feels like. Secondly, I am Jamaican (and also a lesbian) and while I am not proud of the fact that homosexuals are murdered (and countless other persons), I support the fact that while we are a "third world" country, we have not bent under pressure from the "mighty" US of A or the UK. As one other person mentioned, we would rather the government deal with other atrocities (such as the state of the economy, education, the gross murder rate, the roads, etc. ). Even though I am a lesbian, I understand that Jamaica will not be changing their mindset where gay rights are concerned… and guess what, if that's not happening anytime soon… then I have to leave if I want to live my life in peace and openly. It's just something I have to deal with. Finally, as for all the persons referring to Jamaica as "a piece of shit" or "backwards"… I have news for you… you all are quite mistaken. Do not be so ignorant as to generalize based on what you have read on the internet or heard through the grapevine. Do your own research. And PLEASE do not cite Wikipedia as a source of VALID information… because the website can be edited by ANYONE.

Our culture just happens to be seeped in Christianity, and our Christianity.. [because I know America now has Christianity that perpetrates that God accepts gays] believes that that kind of lifestyle is a sin before God.. and so we don't embrace it. It's that simple. Mind you, a lot of the people that are 'anti-gay' here aren't walking holy before God.. but they have made homosexuality into the bigger sin.. so we have that problem.. name one country that doesn't have their faults.
