The Wino is still in the hospital and she has just been diagnosed with emphysema.
Pretty serious stuff!
Amy's dad, Mitch Winehouse, spoke to journalists about the severity of her diagnosis.
He says, "The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her. The doctors have said that if she had continued the way she was going she could have ended up an invalid — she wouldn't have been able to breathe. She's got emphysema. It's in its early stages, but had it gone on for another month they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there like an old person with a mask on her face struggling to breathe. With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes, her lungs are all gunked up. There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She's got 70 percent lung capacity. If she doesn't go back to drugs, then she can lead this magnificent life. We are praying that that's what Amy really wants. She seems resolute."

I know her TB test was negative, but doesn't it take some time before a TB test can be negative or positive? It takes 4-12 weeks for a proper blood culture to grow. Is it still possible she has TB as well as emphysema?

Re: Daria – My mom died of emphysema too and it was horrible!! She had a cathater hole in her neck and she was always asking for a gun to shoot herself. She would pull her catheter out and there was nothing I could do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She barely even smoked!!! Barely a cig here and there when I was younger. I dont even remember her smoking after 2nd grade. It was sooooo horrible!!!!! My dad didnt even care at the time he was cheating on my mom and mistreated her while she was hooked up to the breathing machine before she landed in the hospital shortly before she died. It was really really horrible!!

I am not trying to be mean, but this is probably the best thing that could happen to her right now. It will force her to make a decision, and hopefully get better. I think she would have died of anorexia if she didn't get a diagnosis.

It is painful watching her waste her life on drugs. I hope this is the wake up call that pushes her to kick her using friends to the curb, get into rehab (and stay in rehab), and just continue to try and stay clean. She has a rough road ahead of her.

emphysema is end stage COPD, meaning once you have it, you don't live for too much longer. there is no way she can lead any kind of 'magnificant life' with something like that.

It's not uncommen for drug abusers to die early. As a retired nurse, I have seen this again and again. Abuse your body continuously and see what happens. Actually, it's a woner she's alive at all. I believe in prayer. Love her or hate her, please pray for her.
