Three-time World Cup winner Pele has been the victim of a robbery. The soccer legend was held up at gunpoint!
Thankfully, he was not harmed.
Pele, whose real name is Edison Arantes do Nascimento, was approached by a gang of 10 youths in Brazil last week and robbed while it was still daylight.
When Pele's chauffeur-driven car became stuck in a traffic jam in Guaruja, the gang proceeded to rob him of his cell phone, a gold necklace, and an expensive watch.
Reports state that other drivers and passengers were also robbed.
It seems that these road-side robberies are a common occurrence in certain areas of Brazil. Armed gangs create makeshift roadblocks, stopping traffic, and robbing helpless motorists.
That why the really really rich travel via helicopter in Brazil!

Brasil is an amazing country. I spent 12 weeks there working in a lovely flavela (no guns, drugs or anything). I did go to worse flaveas and there were guys with guns and had no trouble. People in Brasil are so friendly and welcoming and the children I was working with were amazing people who will grow up to be a credit to society. My boss out there got mugged twice in New York and has never been mugged in Rio.
Brasil is one of the emerging economies in the world along with China, Russia and India. China and Russia do not have the freedom necessary to deal with the massive problems they have so Brasil and India (both democracies) will be the next booming economies.
Pele was amazing but Garrincha was better and Jerzinho won the 1970 world cup single handedly.

First of all, I'd like to say something to all the Brazilians who are defending the kids who robbed Pele: it is because of your mentality of "poor things, they have no other way to survive other than robbing" that our country has gone to shit. The criminals should not be defended, even if you are trying to make Brazili look better because a celebrity gossip website has made fun of one of the few Brazilians that are super famous worldwide. I am Brazilian, and was coincidentally enough, born and raised in Guaruja, the city in question. Throughout my entire life Guaruja, which is an island on the coast of Sao Paulo was a beautiful and peaceful place, where robbery was a thing that only happened in the big city up the hill (Sao Paulo), but two years ago I went back (I live in the US now) and was utterly bewildered with the amount of poverty and the state of fear my family now lives because of the violence and robberies going around. Please guys, let's not make excuses for these people. That is why things are the way they are now, because you all sit and home and feel sorry for them. Anyways, all I wanted to say was, Perez, Guaruja is a small town, and there is no way of traveling there via helicopter, like in Sao Paulo. Just be careful with uneducated statements like that.
