These are angry poorly uneducated males who do not reflect the feelings of most Jamaicans, who are focused on family and trying to make a living. Gay issues are not high on their list of priorities. BTW Perez, when Cubans washed upon the shores of Jamaica after the Cuban revolution, it was Jamaican families who took them into their homes, looked after them and helped them make a new life. Jamaicans who were living in Cuba at that time were never heard from again. Jamaicans have for many years travelled to Cuba and contributed to the Cuban economy. They do not blame all Cubans for the acts of a few. As someone of Cuban heritage, you owe Jamaica a debt of gratitude. If you studied your country's history, you would know that Cuba has a history of remarkably hateful and repressive treatment of others. Why don't you direct your mean and hateful remarks towards them? You are a big hypocrite. How sad.
I defend Perez entirely and I am Jamaican. If it is even fathomed that you are a homosexual in the Jamaican society you will be maimed or killed. Please, the level of hatred towards gays is unbelievable. Their lyrics that so many ppl enjoy is filled with hatred towards gays.The church sits by and does nothing because, well, it's a sin and Christ would do the same. The government condones this as well. Even the Prime Minister went on an international programme to say a gay man will never step foot on his Cabinet. It goes on and on…boycott JAMAICA and send the news far and wide.

I went to Jamaica once and will never go back. I was there on vacay and I passed slums to get to the gated resort where people who live in those slums work tirelessly. It seemed so wrong that I was there to enjoy myself.

Gays exist the same reason as everything else. According to the Bible, God gave man freedom of CHOICE… Freewill. We are free to do as we please w/ the caveat that you have to answer for it when the "day" comes. This by the way is the same reason why "sin" exists, Racism exists, Sexism, exists, Ageism exists, etc etc etc.
As for the biological argument of gay existance I think being gay is a choice "not some random act of deviant gene that makes people that way". Gays are not some defects walking around society w/o a choice in their sexual preference same goes for heterosexuals. Gender roles as well as sexual roles are social constructs. We set up the society and we deem what is proper what is improper. An oversimplified example is Pink is for girl and Blue is for boy, A man's role is to be strong and provide a women's role is to be sexual objects, submissive, home only no career…pick your poison. Going tdown the trail of Genetics only leads to An even more DANGEROUS thought! We can "fix' these people b/c it's a genetic defect rather than a conscientious CHOICE.

Speaking for myself, as a young Jamaican, I personally don't find homosexuality normal but what one does is entirely up to them and people should stop trying to force their lifestyles on other people. Its more than obvious that many people hate gay and lesbian folk, no matter how decently they live their lives. The hatred goes beyond Jamaica, by example of some of the shameful comments made here in this blog. The venom and darkness in some of your words is disheartening….not only about the issue of homosexuality but is also a sad indictment of how vicious and uncaring mankind can be to each other. The fact that some of you can think or write without the least bit of remorse that gay people should be killed reveals how evil humanity can be. The issue, however, shouldn't be about berating Jamaica but improving the lives of gay people there. People should have the right to live their lives without fear of being murdered for who they are—that should apply to every corner of the globe. Unfortunately it doesn't. This story was brought to my attention through a local Jamaica newspaper. I understand Perez's and all his gay friends point. People should have rights regardless of thier sexual orientation. However, in Jamaica (where I was born and raised and currently live), homosexuality is against the law and there is no country on this earth that can change that. Yes Jamaica depends on tourism but do not flash your 'dollars' in our faces because u are under the misguided conception that we need them. There are many other tourist that visit Jamaica on an annual basis so whether the gay people come or not is really neither here nor there with us. The problem i have with this line of argument… everyone has so much strength for Jamaica because we are a small third world country. There are bigger countries that are against homosexuality. I read recently that in Asia, Gays can be beheaded for initimating gayness. So keep your 'almighty dollar' Perez. Jamaica is fantastic just the way it is and we will not change to accept you and your nastiness.

I can only say that he is one of the many persons in Jamaica who make up stories of being persecuted because of their gay lifestyle; that that they escape their poor standard of life by fleeing to another country. And one way of doing this is to say that you are gay and that you are being persecuted. In the article, this so called gay man said 13 of his friends were murders, well, ask him to provide records of the friends and when the murders were committed.
Quite frankly, Jamaicans on a whole know that homosexuality is wrong (yeah that’s right, we know not think). If you are gay then stay out, we are not begging you to visit Jamaica, don’t try to force us to accept your sinful lifestyle.
