It's getting harder and harder for bands to make a splash with album releases these days.
So….musicians are thinking outside the box!
British pop punk band McFly is going the Prince route and teaming up with the UK's Daily Mail to give away its new music in the paper's Sunday, July 20th edition.
McFly's super dreamy singer/guitarist Tom Fletcher says, “We want to get our music out to the widest audience possible and working with a massive paper like The Mail On Sunday will definitely help us achieve that. We’re very excited about this great opportunity."
This partnership will give the band access to the Sunday Mail's reported 5.8 million readers.

this remind's me of a story my great grandma used to tell me about slavery when I was just knee high and I didn't understand much of the story because she alway's talked to me without her denture's and she was high as a kite from all the opium she used to smoke but that's neither here nor there. all I know is I'am still waiting for my restitution check. did I mention that after she passed I went to the reading of her will and she left me her old wooden denture's and they have worked great for me ever since as a door stop. well, gotta go. I need to take my squirell's for their afternoon walk and then we go over to the local park and they play on the jungle gym and what not. just a little update on my day laborer's working on my kitchen, you wont believe what happened this morning but the INS pulled up in front of my house and took all my worker's because they were illegal, go figure. who would of known they were illegal's because when I pick them up each day I alway's ask if they are legal and they always assure me that they are.

I haven't heard McFly complain about poor album sales before they've always sold really well. I think giving away something is declaring that it really isn't worth buying.

I wasn't too happy about it at first but I'm slowly warming up to the idea. McFly deserve for more people to give them a chance and this might be one way to do it. I do think there's a huge risk that people are gonna throw the cd away and not mind it at all though. This breaking free thing McFly are doing right now is scary and is making me nervous but I really want this to happen for them. We'll love them no matter what. Thanks for posting this and Tom's always the cutest guy on earth. Yum.

IMO I think it's stupid, They are going to release it properly 2 months later with 4 extra tracks, a 32 page booklet and a dvd, cheeky if you ask me. They did it with Motion In The Ocean too( re-released it with an extra track and DVD). However I do get the paper so wehey

However it feels like they are forcing people to listen to them. If people want to listen to mcfly, they will listen to mcfly, but I do think they could do with a few extra fans

I hate the Mail and would never buy it, but it's okay coz I work at a newsagent and so can just nick one. I really hope this works for McFly as they deserve success.
btw the "tween demographic" that Jorda is complaining about is the only reason why there is still money in the music business.. plus who wants to be all depressed and stuff all the time… i mean bands with soul are great! but its not illegal to lighten it up a bit with a cute upbeat song! plus have you ever heard mcfly some of their songs actually have a lil meaning (mostly dougie's songs)

I'm an indie kid and hate pop music but i think as Mcfly progress they'll get better. They write their songs with Jason Perry from 'A' now , he's definitley not pop.

America is so far behind the times. Brits have been giving away songs with newspapers that even of my favorite CDs are those I got with the Sunday paper. Perez, you make it sound as though this is something new and they're desperate for access to the public.
Don't discount our boys, McFly. They've been around the block for A LONG TIME and have been uber-successful. You have heard there songs and seen them in movies. Our boys rock!

I like McFly; they're not my favorite band but they have some good stuff. Though I think releasing their music for free is really stupid idea; if people aren't buying their music than it is most likely because they don't like it not because they can't afford it. It's really a waste of their money and polycarbonate plastic.
